Compulsary box & bits shots to start with then. Edited January 20, 2009 by bexwh773
bexwh773 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Which markings you going for? <cough> Title <cough> The bottom one Bex
Seamus Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 That'll teach me not to read the bloody title! An excellent choice though
bexwh773 Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 That'll teach me not to read the bloody title! An excellent choice though Couldnt resist it All the Trumpys Ive seen have all been with the Suez stripes on, and I fancied something different Bex
avro683 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 You'll enjoy this one, Bex. I'm planning to start my Bucc as soon as I get my airbrush connected properly. Tony
Mike Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Bex... shove all the lead shot you can lay your hands on in the nose of this one, and get a resin or white metal bang seat to help out too. The PE seatbelts are hopelessly anaemic, so a replacement seat will cure the need to use them
markc Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Bex... shove all the lead shot you can lay your hands on in the nose of this one, and get a resin or white metal bang seat to help out too. I second that one, I thought I had enough in then found later I needed extra so cunningly managed to squeeze the spine of a 1/72 white metal seat into the nose wheel bay. Still the model still teeters on the brink with a move to tail sitting at the slightest provocation. Hope it goes well though, it's a nice kit and I enjoyed building it. Just be careful when joining the rear fuselage to the front, the match up is not the greatest. Cheers MarkC
bexwh773 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Thanks for the tip Boss, I was gonna drop you a line to see how much was needed for the nose Mark, thanks for the warning about the tail to fuselage joint Update in a couple of hours. Bex
bexwh773 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Oh this is a bundle of fun Well now, got the tub painted, chucked some 1p coins in the nose area, nose leg fitted, main gear bays built and painted (not fun to build either) and the bang seat nearly finished. Luckily DamienB has some great ref photos on his website for such things so I can atleast make it look half decent. I think I should stick to Canberra's and Phantoms Bex
Mike Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 To help with the fore/aft join, glue the top joint first to minimise the step/seam, and leave that to cure for a day or so. Then join the bottom one trying the same trick. You could even jam a piece of sprue in the rear to pack it out (or lolly sticks, I know you're partial ), so that the join is easier to make. What made you decide on silver wheel bays? I plumped for underside colored ones on mine... can't remember why now
bexwh773 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Thanks for the tip Boss, having dry fitted the fuselage Ive noticed the dodgy seams And I think I'll opt for a bit of Lolly stick, I seem a dab hand with them Re the silver, its because of the photos Ive looked at, and having spent weeks on my knees stripping 1:1 scale Main Gear Bays Boy do the Royal Navy know how to paint an airframe Bex
bexwh773 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 It's a SeaHawk money box. its getting that way, and makes a 1 penny useful for a change Bex
darson Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Re the silver, its because of the photos Ive looked at, and having spent weeks on my knees stripping 1:1 scale Main Gear Bays Boy do the Royal Navy know how to paint an airframe Bex You know that old Navy adage Bex, "If it moves salute it, if it doesn't paint over it".
Old VG 33 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 You know that old Navy adage Bex, "If it moves salute it, if it doesn't paint over it". Hi Very funny, in the French Navy this is the same rule and I was thinking about it when reading above. Instead of coins I prefer nuts and bolts. Patrick
Martian Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Cheer up you could be building the Classis Airframes kit. That one took me about 18 months on and off to club into submission! The pside is of course that the Seahawk does look the dogs danglies wen complete. Martin
Rampage55 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Off to great start Bex. It does take a bit of massaging to get it right but it 's worth it in the end. Mark
bexwh773 Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Thanks for the kind comments and the "If it moves, salute it, and if it doesnt paint it" Well shes still fighting me, and the lolly sticks have made an appearance........... I blocked off the inside of the intakes with a bit of lolly stick, and I made up my own main spars to aid strengthing the wings, as the joint itself is total pants, and to be honest, the wing fit is atrocious Oh and Ive had to move the pennies around the inside too Bex Intakes & lolly sticks Bang seat dry fitted & almost finished Main Spars ala Bexy Wings fitted....... if yoou can call it a fit
Mike Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Why'dya think I did mine with the wings up & flaps open? Not very realistic to have the both like that (I think) AND loaded for bear, but hey... I was after an easy life!

Not very realistic to have the both like that (I think) AND loaded for bear, but hey... I was after an easy life! Hindsight is a wonderful thing Boss and I thought it would be easier for wings down I think yu did the right thing, but mine would look a bit daft wings up strapped to the ceiling I think wings up and flaps open is incorrect, but, thats just a guess, I dont think Ive seen any pics of them like that........ anyone else care to add to this? Bex

Bex You could tell everyone it was a main spar failure? I suspect the flaps deflected as a pair, but can't remember which way They certainly would have taken the rockets off first though!
