Hi Everyone,

I was a bit slow in getting this into the 2008 yearbook, partly because I was busy trying to work out how to use my new camera that my wife kindly bought me for chrimbo. I'm not 100% satisfied with the pics (or indeed the model!), as I need to sort out the depth of field and lighting, but thought I would have a go at posting them anyway!

This is my Classic Airframes Sea Hornet finished in the well known scheme of 806 Squadron, part of an aerobatic team was sent to the US and Canada to show the colonials how to fly!

Thats a beautiful Sea Hornet in what I consider to be the best scheme worn by the type......really well done!

Well thats rather nice - a beauty I would say!!!

I Love that rather subdued overall silver finish too. What did you use?

and you got the front rake on the UC legs too - though it may be the pics - could it be a bit too much?

Nice job Mick, especially the removal of all those extra panel lines on the wings and control surfaces, it looks much cleaner and much more like the real thing.

I think the rake of the gear might be a little over exagerrated but given the problems with the layout and design of the kit parts and gear wells I reckon it sits right so you've done a great job, and it might just be the angle in the pictures.

I also think your problems with depth of field in your pictures will go away if you throw some more light on the subject, that and check your cameras white balance settings.

I used Xtracolour High Speed Silver for the finish, airbrushed on, a couple of you have mentioned the UC but I think it is maybe down to the angle of the photo as I was at pains to get this feature correct and referred to various pics in the excellent Ad Hoc book on the Sea Hornet.

'TheModeller' thanks for the photography advice, much appreciated.

Coming late to the party here (followed link from a current project), but I think you got a very good result from the Classic Airframe kit. One problem with the CA kit is that the wheel wells are too far forward by about 4 mms. Also the spinners are too short and stumpy. Haven't been able to find any shapes that can be robbed from other kits either.

For photos - you may want to set the whitebalance to incandescent if you use normal indoor lighting. The depth of field will improve if you can manually set the aperture to the smallest setting (i.e. the highest number - 22 is smaller than 16 for example). This will extend the shutter speed (if you halve the aperture you double the shutter speed as you need to let in the same amount of light), so a tripod will be useful.
