I've got a bit of a thing about deck equipment lately, after building the MD-3 tractor from Skunkmodels and the Tamiya one here, but was wondering whether there's anything out there for the British Naval modeller. Kits, or base points from which to jump off from would be handy, or at the very least some plans and likely candidates for wheels (don't fancy scratch building wheels!). :)

I have just looked at the Aviation Workshop site and they have a Royal Navy Douglas Deck Tractor shown for release during 2010 (both 72 and 48 scale. The product code is SS-7205 for the 72 scale version.

Mike.

I believe Verlinden produced a resin kit for some deck tractors, but I'm not sure if they are still available. I'll check and get back to you.

In the meantime, check your e-mail. These might be of use.

I've been looking for a while for some British deck kit. About all I have found is the towing arms. I picked up one of these (this is a stock photo, not mine), not sure how much it was used on deck, shore based yes, but not sure about sea...

I found this before Skunk model brought their tractor out, a very nice one piece resin cast, with everything you need, including plasticard for pedals and wire:

They do a long tractor as well, ther is a review about half way down this page

What I really want to see are some of these:

I have been toying with making one from scratch, but there isn't much information on them, If anyone has a good walkaround or plans, please let me know.

It was listed a couple of months ago...If you look at this http://www.theaviationworkshop.co.uk/resin-c-4.html on the current site the photo for the kit is still there, even without my glasses on I can just see the words RN Carrier Aircraft Tug -Douglas tractor. (Right hand image of three - Airframe Exrta Support sets), however when you click into that, the deck tractor is no longer listed.

Hopefully it will eventually appear.

There was a superb model of Jumbo the crane at IPMS Telford in Nov 2009. This is the only serious attempt to build any FAA deck gear I have seen. Clearly not the tractor but actually a whole lot better.

I meant to try and get the name of the builder as I believe it was scratch built but never managed it.

Apparently the diorama was in the 2008 competition but I didnt attend that one.

If the builder sees this then Im sure a few people would been keen on a set of plans! Myself included.

There was a 1/72 resin kit of a Royal Navy tractor produced by a French company a few years back, it's the 1970/80's vintage one similar to the ones in OzH's post.

It was a very simple kit basically consisting of a single piece body with 4 wheels and a steering wheel/column, it's still in the stash somewhere.
