Ford Escort X pack with V8

Recommended Posts

This project is still in the formation stages. I have used the Italeri boxing of the old ESCI MkII Escort. The body has been replaced by a resin item from Richie Griffiths. The V8 is a spare from the Revell '32 Ford 3 Window Coupe. The kit gearbox has been grafted on to avoid serious bodywork mods to fit the auto box. Seats and dash will be resin items. I've also decided to replace the TE27 wheels, which were my first choice, with some Minilite style rims and tyres (I think they were from Renaissance)

Lots of work to do on the suspension to get the desired stance. Will also need to do a lot of work on the exterior details like bumpers, etc. The grille has been opened up to allow some proper headlamp bodies to be fitted.

Not decided on a colour yet, open to suggestions lol.

This is how it currently sits. Need another session of filler primer and wet sanding to get ready for paint.

Now, this sort of project is right up my street.  Pure Dagenham - i.e. two stops on from Barking!  :giggle:

Great choice of wheels, they really suit the project.

I'm definitely sticking around for this one.  Anyone for more coffee?  :coffee:

Ha, that sounds good. Maybe should call this project the V8 Dustbin 😉

I had a think about the colour and candy green popped into my head, sound good? Definitely fits in with the barking theme.

This is definitely a 'could be' rather than a 'what if' build.... brilliant!

I say could be as I once saw a mk2 escort with a Cosworth engine and gearbox in it ..... 😲

There was a MkII in Peterborough with a 2.8 V6 in it. It was painted Kawasaki green. Probably because the owners Dad owned the Kwaka shop 😊

That was back in the early 80's.

All sorts of engines have gone into Escorts over the years. Cosworth YB isn't that unusual, Vauxhall redtops were a popular swop when Astra GTEs could be readily found in scrapyards. Rover V8 has been done a few times too, so your build using a Ford V8 is entirely credible. It's going to be great.

2.5 litre Millington Diamonds pushing out around 350 brake are the MK2 engine of choice now...!! :)

Interesting project Steve, Ford Signal Amber would be my choice of colour I think.

Where did you get the back seat from, might I ask?

Mmm, I did look at some pics on google. Not sure the factory type colours suit the body style with these arches fitted. I am pretty much settled on Kawasaki green now, was also thinking of doing the Motorsport stripes in different shades of green, not sure on that though.

Seats for front and back came from Richie Griffiths, same as the body shell and bonnet. Think they were adapted to fit the Esci floor from an old die-cast car.

Richards stuff is great.

Looking forward to seeing this build/WIP.

Cheers Boreham. I have also done a couple of MkI's with Richards chassis and engines.

Hoping to get back on this one tonight, need to tackle some more body issues, going to try working the bulkhead/inner wing interface, to get rid of that gap and fillet.

Need to thin the pillars as well, get a better fit on the 'glass'.

Sorry Steve, I don't know who that is - any link to a website or such?

It's just dawned on me that I have a couple of Quottroroute (think that was the name) Mk1 diecasts with full interiors....!!

I'm not sure if Richie has a website. He can be found on the Facebook pages IPMS Car & Motorcycle and F1 & Motorsport. It's a long wait but Richie can be found on the car island at Telford as well.

That could be very effective against the Kwak Green.

There you go Keith, all you need now is a V8.  Or two... :giggle:

Nope, mine will all have crossflows, twin cams or BDA's. Well, in pretend anyway, cos I can never be bothered with engines!! 🤣

Thanks Steve, I had a look at both those pages on Fbook but couldn't see anything about bits for sale?

Did a bit more fiddlin' (No G) with the shell last night.

I've added a bit of card on the inner wings to try and get rid of the gaps. I think this will finish off nicely with tiny strips across the joint after painting, sort of like a weld bead?

Those weird fillets in the rear corners are gone as well. The rear light housings have since been blanked off to prevent the see through effect. Happy with the screen pillars now too.

Had a bit of a mock up to see how it might sit 🙂.

A bit more primer later on to see what needs further fettlin'
