Biggles87
Optivisor! That’s a good idea, I’ve got one somewhere, I really must start using it. Excellent cockpit detail as usual, you’ve put more wiring into the radio deck than I did on my 1/32 version. John 🇺🇦

John 🇺🇦 thanks John I'm not convinced that much of it will be seen although there's quite a lot of "glass" so maybe it will be seen? rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
The cockpit glass had their Montex masks applied and painted with some Xtreme Metal AK480 dark aluminium. these Xtreme metal paints cover really well even with no black base, the view from the "inside"... Fitting the machine guns to the upper cowl was far more trouble than it should have been!?, either the holes for them to poke through are too small or the gun barrels are too large, either way it took quite a bit of scraping, the barrels are too small to sand, to get them to fit. However once fitted the top cowl was attached to the front of the airframe. I fitted the painted gun site… …and then fixed the front and rear “glass” to the airframe. The hole was cut out in the wood decal. Next I’ll be building and adding the wings. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
mark.au
Progressing really well John. Those wood decals are an interesting option, I’ve filed that away for future consideration. I’m looking forward to your paint treatment, these naked birds do look very impressive when you’ve done them.

This means that with the Uschi version you can change the background/base colour of the wood, this becomes useful when/if you want to accentuate the wood panels, you'll see better what I mean later in the build 👍 54 minutes ago, 81-er said: Great progress, John, she's shaping up very nicely. James thanks James so far everything's taken far longer than "normal", at least it appears that way to me hopefully once the assembly is complete the "paint" will move along quicker? rgds John(shortCummins)
shortCummins
The fit of the upper and lower wing parts is very good… …and the fit of the wings to the fuselage is also very good. Lower cowl nailed in place. The radiator assemble covers the “step” toward the rear of the airframe that I’d smoothed. Flaps fitted. Next I’ll prepare the airframe for paint. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
I “tacked” the centre glass in place with some liquid mask. There were a few small gaps that I filled with some liquid putty. I’m not going to add the bombs and bomb racks so I filled the mounting holes with some stretched sprue... ...after sanding the stretched sprue flush the panel lines and rivet detail was repaired. Next I’ll be starting the paint. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
Biggles87
It looks like the worst fit was at the front end of the nose to wing join, if I remember rightly the 1/32 version was the same. I’m sure you’ll be able to beat it into submission. John. 🇺🇦

shortCummins
Different primer(s) are needed for the wood/linen areas and metal parts, white for the wood/linen and black for the metal. To try and minimise the amount of masking I’ve decided to prime and paint the wood/linen parts before applying the black primer as the black will easily cover the lighter colours? The whole airframe washed over with some isopropyl wipes and then the wood and linen areas given a coat of Stynylrez white primer. MRP-256 doped linen was used for the “base” linen colour. MRP-259 pale wood was used for the “base” wood colour. Next I’ll be applying the “metal” paint. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

Silenoz
Looking good. Will you add woodgrain? and how will you try to apply it (oil/woodgrain decal/...)? wouldn't it be better to apply it now before the metal paint?

shortCummins
Bothe the wood and linen base colours were masked before I sprayed the Stynylrez black primer. Looking at the gaps and filled areas I was lucky to get away with it!, with the exception of this… Next I’ll be spraying the base metal colour. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
I’m lucky enough to have a number of AK Xtreme Metal paints, so I’ll be using some different “shades” to try and create some visual interest. These additional “colours” will be lightly sprayed over the base aluminium colour, my theory is that they will give a subtile shift in the metallic effect? Post-it notes were used as masks, their low-tac glue is ideal for minimal effect on the painted surface. 478 white aluminium 480 dark aluminium 482 duraluminium 488 matt aluminium 670 stainless steel Here she is with the mask(s) removed… There’s some overspray that I’ll need to attend to, I’ll do that when I “fix” the rear fuselage seam. Next I’ll be add “shadow” colour to the linen parts. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
Biggles87
Nice subtle variations John. I also have several Extreme Metal shades, they all look much more similar n the bottles than when sprayed. John. 🇺🇦
