theplasticsurgeon
Joining you with this Sword 1/72 BAC Strikemaster. This kit cost me £8 at IPMS Avon show in 2015.

theplasticsurgeon
I've built a few Provosts before, but this is my first Strikemaster. So expect to see some sidebyside photos with this Airfix JP5. I contributed the Strikemaster walkaround photos, so no excuses allowed here.

theplasticsurgeon
Parts, first impression is superbly moulded parts, and typical of short run - no location points. Options, only the New Zealand one is of interest here. And decals, again looking good.

theplasticsurgeon
Getting started. Google of NZ Strikemaster shows a grey cockpit interior. This kit has two coamings, and three instrument panels, with instructions for two of them. Google shows NZ SMs with two gunsights, which is one set of the options. Way to go.

zebra
Good choice! Mention of the Matchbox kit brings back memories of a tail sitter from a long time ago.

As a spotty teenaged air cadet I spent three happy days on the JP line at Cranwell during our annual camp and still remember the seat harnesses on Mks 3 and 5 as being bright blue with yellow/gold parachute straps. I was told that this was to minimise the risk of plugging the wrong strap into the wrong quick release box.
theplasticsurgeon
Pushing on, fuselage assembled. This kit doesn't have much in the way of location tabs, so very careful going. Wings fitted. Moulding marks have to be removed, for a better fit.

theplasticsurgeon
The underside grey translates to Humbrol 28, which I airbrushed on this afternoon.

From memory, some (if not all) Strikemasters had at least one repaint during service, (especially those re-winged) which would have included the change in grey. Two different colour tones. The Skyhawks had Gull Grey 36622, and Grey 36440 One Strike master (Inst frame) NZ6365 was half repainted in RNZAF Type Euro One camouflage, in preparation for receiving the Macchi's Edited January 29, 2021 by LDSModeller

LDSModeller
You're not going to like my comments on your decal placement, but the Wing Roundels are facing the wrong way the "Kiwi" should be facing beak forward to leading edge and feet towards the fuselage. Even the Kit Box art has the correct position in your photo above, and just to show how it looks, RNZAF 14 Squadron Strikemaster Official RNZAF Photo below (RNZAF Official - RNZAF Museum - Used with Permissions) A modeller can paint/build their model how they want, but I personally find it disrespectful to a Country and their Armed Forces to place Official Insignia improperly
