DaveJL
Hello all, Having just returned from a brief trip to Croatia (lovely country!), I would like to enter another Mig-21, this time a 'modernised' BIS, of the Croatian Air Force. Kit: Extras: Not much on this one - resin seat and decals is about it! This is what i'm going for - Mig-21 Will make a start soon after i've started the Mig-29. DaveJL
Made a start on this today. Built up and painted the exhaust: Ordnance: 2 of the R-60s are from my Czech build. I'd planned to add all 4 to this one, but all the pictures I have found so far only show 2 being carried with the centre-line fuel tank. If anyone has any pictures of a Croatian jet carrying 4 of these, or confirmation that they fly with 4, it would be most appreciated! Cockpit and etch: The Akan paint isn't the exact shade of the etch but for all you'll see of the cockpit, it'll do. Moved on and added everything to the fuselage halves: Closed up: More soon. DaveJL
More done. Main landing gear well added to lower wing assembly: Spine built up: Air scoops, stabs and some other odds and ends added to the fuselage: The lovely CMK KM-1 seat: More soon. DaveJL
Thanks mate. Only about 10 hours work, if that. Goes together much quicker once you've built one

DaveJL
More done. Wings added along with pylons, cannon and other odds and sods. Almost no fit issues - the filler around the nose was my doing. The ring around the shock cone is a bit tricky to get to sit right. Once the filler is cleaned up and I decided what way I want to load it -2 R60s or 4 (and if these are on a dual pylon or 1 on each of the 4 hard points) there's a few small bits to add then she'll be off to the paint shop. DaveJL
Last bits added, now just have to mask off painted areas and then it's ready for the booth. Went for the dual R-60 launcher on the inner pylons; outers will be left empty. More soon. Dave

DaveJL
Been working away at this. Painted, glossed, and decals added. Well, some of them added. The decals were possibly the worst I've ever used. The colour match is of the checked pattern is completely wrong and the decals themselves broke up. The tail fin decals do not fit and are the wrong pattern. Will have to trim these. I've had to order a new set to replace those that were destroyed. Very disappointed in them. I'll let you judge for yourself: Then the real thing here. I'm not very happy, no words can be used on a family forum to express this. You'd expect a manufacturer that has detailed pictures of the jets to get the colour somewhere near correct. My only hope is that the checks darken down a touch under varnish. Paul Bradley
That's disappointing - I was thinking of buying a set of those decals, but maybe not now! Edited July 20, 2017 by Paul Bradley

I'd avoid them if you can mate, though they're the only game in town if you want to do a modernised Croatian jet. I'll just have to make do.
Basilisk
Sorry to read about your decal trouble. The decals you managed to apply do look good! I guess the only other option is painting them which is very time consuming. Cheers, Peter

I'm hopoing they'll darken down a touch with some varnish and i'm going to try a bit of dry brushing grey over them.
DaveJL
Replacement decals arrived - still awful- and missing decals were added to the model. Some trimming etc was needed. Once on, they were sealed in with a top coat of gloss, the the landing gear was added: Next up is the panel wash and adding the remaining bits and pieces. DaveJL
More done. Wash went on first thing: Excess removed after about 30 minutes. Topped off with a flat coat. I then moved on and added the fuel tank, R-60s, ejection seat and most of the remaining bits and pieces: A few small areas around the wind shield need cleaned up. Just have to add a touch of weathering, then cross my fingers that my dry brushing idea for the checked panels will work, before finally adding the canopy. More soon. DaveJL
That's it done. I added some weathering and dry brushed a darker grey onto the check pattern on the tail and wings. It's darkened them down a touch, but it's not the best and i'm not overly happy with it, but will have to do. More pictures in the gallery and RFI here All three entries together: Thanks to all who commented/followed. Lovely kit ruined by the decals.
