  1. That's just silly Jerry - we all know that Airfix don't do 1/32, so please correct your post to 1/24!! Cheers.. Dave
  2. Looking great Mike. I find lacquer silver paints tend to withstand more handling that other types of paint mediums, they are really quite robust. Applying them may cause some odour issues, but who cares when it’s all in the aid of building model kits! Cheers.. Dave
  3. WOW!! This Italian classic has come up wonderfully well and unsurprisingly very quickly. The camo application has been expertly executed and really makes this kit a true stand out. So glad you dug this one out so late in the piece. Cheers.. Dave
  4. What an impressive way to finish up this GB John. You’ve certainly entertained us with some very neat and tidy builds and this Bloodhound set is up there with the best that this GB has offered. Don’t forget the final group shot will ya? Cheers, well modelled and big thanks for taking part.. Dave
  5. I’m pretty impressed with the details that are showing up in your photos Mike. I’ve never considered building this kit however you are tempting me big time. As with your other builds this is coming along nicely. Looks like you’ve got a big week ahead so it’s either cutting down on sleep or better still the day job! Cheers.. Dave
  6. That’s the spirit V.P. I’m glad you’ve chosen to give this one another chance to get finished. Although most of us have ‘galleried’ our builds there’s still plenty of interest in those that are nearing completion as well. Cheers.. Dave
  7. Glad you managed to resurrect this final post Tim. I say, the clear photography shows up both the kits nice details and your expert craftsmanship. You’ve played this GB well my friend, it was great having you aboard. Cheers and well modelled..Dave
  8. The working undercart looks great Pat, well done. Now I was just about to post if you are almost there yet, as my 24 hour timer stopped over 12 hours ago!! Good to see this one finished. Cheers.. Dave
  9. Chapter 1 - Making a Start. As promised, I’ve made a start and have also decided to dig out another identical kit to see how far I can go with two builds. I’m thinking that whilst I’ll have all this P-40 reference stuff running around my head, it would be best to use it to tackle two kits - it’s amazing what I’ve read and forgotten about already!! Anyway, Hasegawa’s 1/72 P-40’s kits are quite basic and this is definitely evident when you see the kit’s cockpit. I decided to add a few bits of plastic strip and sprue in order to smarten this up a bit. Not much will be seen underneath the closed canopy, however this will look much better than a plain sidewall. Paint and wash will be applied soon. Cheers.. Dave
  10. Build List edited Right, so my silly contribution to this GB has now clocked over 99 Gallery entries - that's an amazing number and who knows where this will all end up at the end of next weekend. There's still some great builds in progress so if there was ever a better time to chuck a 'sickie' and get some more bench time in - it's certainly NOW!!. This update sees even more really beautiful kit completions this week - please show your appreciation to @Hockeyboy76, @GREG DESTEC, @TimV1969, @MarkSH and of course is there an update of late that has not mentioned @TonyW?? Well done chaps - there's some truly inspiring builds amongst this lot, it's a shame we can't all get together and raise our glasses to celebrate the end of what has been a fantastic GB. Gallery Entries Vertol 107-11 - Hockeyboy76 Boeing B-29 Super Fortress - GREG DESTEC Bristol Bulldog - TonyW DHC-2 Beaver - Rabbit Leader S.A Puma - TimV1969 MRCA Prototype - MarkSH Build Tally Total Builds = 156 / Total Subjects = 129 / Gallery Entries = 99 / Completion Ratio = 63.5%
  11. Update #12 - GB Gallery Entry (Finally!!) OK - I'm calling this whole GB done (besides the build list updates of course!). The Beaver is now safely tucked away into the Gallery for long time preservation. It's been a whole lot of fun and I'm sure those that participated are all thankful they did. Well done to hosts Ian @Lawzer and Mike @Ventora3300 for making this possibly the best BM GB ever. Here's one glamour shot of my build and theres more you know where? Cheers.. Dave
  12. Here's my contribution to what has been a truly marvellous Group Build. Thanks to all of you for the encouragement and inspiration along the way, I'm so glad I took part. Now back in 1971 Airfix made many modellers happy when they released their version of De Havilland Canada's DHC-2 Beaver. OOB this kit builds up as an British Army AH.1, however with a few tweaks here and there a stock Beaver can be built with only the slightest of modifications required. The kit comes with options for floats and ski's and I chose the latter to replicate a A95-201 as operated by the RAAF during their Antarctic expeditions (circa 1955-56). To tie this all together, I've added a few typical 'Polar' props and made a fairly basic T4 box inspired framed base. IMO this is still a very serviceable kit and ripe for Hornby to re-release it as part of their 'new' Vintage Classics collection. Cheers.. Dave (yes its me - that annoying member who keeps pestering you with GB Build list updates!!)
  13. Well it's a bit like this Pat. I decided to finish off the Airfix GB Beaver build completely before hacking away at this one, however there's good news - I've been reading the book and the inspiration has returned. I now plan to make a start on this (and possibly a RAAF Milne Bay defender P-40E) as early as tomorrow. Cheers and thanks for the interest... Dave
  14. OK Pat, starting the clock ...........................................................................................NOW!! Tick, tick, tick, tick !! Cheers.. Dave
  15. Thanks for the heads up Z. A new Belvedere kit would be great news although I must admit quite hard to fathom unless it’s some overall resin job thats attached to an equally exotic price tag! Good news all the same. Cheers.. Dave
  16. You gonna eat that camouflaged sausage that’s taking up too much bench space Z?? This is looking so good - I WANT one! Cheers. Dave
  17. Well done Greg, this big beastie was never going to be easy, however you’ve certainly come out on top with this great build. Cheers, well modelled and thanks for taking part.. Dave
  18. That looks just fantastic Mark and this build has inspired me to also model a 'Prototonka', however using the Revell GR.1 kit and trying to back date it to this period. We'll see how I go? I'll look forward to viewing the Gallery shots and fully agree that this has been a truly amazing GB. Cheers, well modelled and thanks for taking part.. Dave
  19. Firstly, can I just say that this F-16 looks really great so far. That's an amazing masking job you've achieved so top marks so far. Now, I'll admit I'm not an expert weather'er and to be honest I find this part of modelling the hardest step to get right, so perhaps others on here may offer better advice. The first thing I am thinking is that if you wanted to post shade and lighten some of these panels with paint, then perhaps this would have been best done after you applied each colour, then masked and applied the next darker colour. etc. Now unless your airbrushing is really accurate, I'd be too scared of over spraying your post shade on areas that don't need it, therefore I would not go there. In order to protect this great paintwork, I'd be applying a clear coat as soon as possible. Once you have decalled and re-cleared them, I'd apply an thin oil panel line wash all over the model. When dry (say 20 mins) rub off the excess in the direction of airflow. Apply your final matt/semi gloss clear coat and see how it looks. You can always re-apply small dots of oil here and there to create that streaking effect, however the old saying that 'less is more' may be quite appropriate with this build. I know its not much, but hope it helps anyway. Cheers.. Dave
  20. Dave.... Done 👍 Mancunian airman.... let me think about this one for a bit. So you'd like to see a list of years already accounted for in chronological order? That shouldn't be too hard, a little time consuming however nothing too drastic I would think? I see what I can do. Cheers.. Dave
  21. Build List edited I know this GB has seemed a little crazy at times, however even I would not have expected another three new builds to make a start well inside two weeks to go!! Yet again we have another 'new' Vintage Classic c/o @Paul821 and two kits from 1967 that would have been a real treat to all Italian aircraft fans, this time made good by the likes of regulars @Ventora3300and @TonyW The Gallery thread is also getting more hits with even more beautifully built kits from @BIG X and that man again TonyW. Yet again, let's put our hands together in appreciation to these fine GB members. At this prolific rate, there's every chance that the 100th Gallery entrant will take place some time this weekend. Who will it be? New Builds 25 Pounder Field Gun & Quad - Paul 821 Fiat G.50 - Ventora3300 Savoia-Marchetti S.M. 79 - TonyW Gallery Entries Sherman Mk1. Tank - BIG X Heinkel He111H-20 - TonyW Build Tally Total Builds = 156 / Total Subjects = 129 / Gallery Entries = 93 / Completion Ratio = 59.6%
  22. This is yet another one of those builds that each time I see an update, I honestly want to go out and buy one! This is high up in my list on 'wants' after watching this bug like creature come alive. Really loving this Mike. Oh - and thanks for the additional diagrams, these are most helpful to understand what on Earrth (or should that be the Moon) is going on!! Cheers.. Dave
  23. Impressive Mike. That's quite a lot of work for a Series 1 kit which shows that when it comes to modelling size doesn't matter! Another one that will be added to the Gallery and inked in red on the build list soon enough. Cheers and well modelled.. Dave
  24. Coming along nicely Mike, those instructions look quite clear although this build looks like it may take some head scratching to actually put together. You're doing a grand job all the same so its nice seeing this one taking shape. Cheers.. Dave
  25. Thats some impressive skills in self belief to suggest that a multi engined aircraft build (plus vac canopies!!) can all be completed by 14 October! Must be something in the water where your from Tony, you might need to bottle some up and send it my way. Good luck with this SM.79. I too built this as a lad with badly applied mottle camo pattern, however I was really impressed with the kits parts and options that the blue plastic and build sequence is still quite vivid in my memory to this day. Cheers.. Dave
