  1. Used to drive past it every time I went through the camp gates. Sad to have seen it disappear like it did.
  2. I like their decals, but I wish that they would do more in 1/72nd, but I know their policy. The model looks good too, I do like the Ferris schemes, even though I do hate grey schemes.
  3. I do just what Mark says, and I have done this with both Humbrol and Xtracolour paints. It depends on how long the aircraft has spent in the sunnier climes as to how much lighter it gets.
  4. [quote name='bexwh773' date='Jun 9 2010, 03:41 PM' post='535802' Damien, from what Ive managed to eek out of a few people from "here & there" is that it had something to do with flying very very very close to Warsaw Pact sites to "sniff out & hoover" any electronic signals thrown at them. From what Ive heard most of 51's Cold War party tricks are still Classified, and even Les wouldnt tell me anything but a very vague description Bexy Bex didn't you know that 51 were only doing Radar and Radio calibration sorties, or so I was told when I joined the Sqn. Sorry forgot to add, that model is absolutely stunning.
  5. Well done Merv, a triumph over adversity.
  6. The Lightning story that I know of was when a lightning on ground runs with a member of the ground crew seated on a wooden stool jumped chocks and as it was short of runway for stopping took it for a flight. It was always a Hunter and the ejection seat story that I heard.
  7. On the right hand fuselage just to the rear of the nose U/C bay there is a door which has built in steps on it. It is included in the kit, but I decided to leave it closed.
  8. This is the Hasegawa ES-3A Viking, and was build for the Gulf War GB. The wing fold set comes from Wolfpack Design, and is really easy to use. I have also altered some of the flying controls. The decals are the ones that come with the kit, although I did look for some others, but did not have any luck. Any comments are welcome. Here hopefully is the build. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=46522

    ES-3A Viking

Now all finished and ready for the show at Salisbury. Attaching the wings was a litle easier than I first thoght and the rest just followed.
  11. Very much so. The nose art on an aircraft is usually decided upon by the pilot or aircrew of the aircraft, but I think that that was in the days when only one particular pilot flew that aircraft. In the Gulf wars the groundcrew would look after certain aircraft, and so I think that is why they decided on what was drawn on a particular aircraft. During the 2003 conflict I know that the nose art on the Chinooks (yes they did have some form of artistry on them) aboard HMS Ark Royal was decided by a committee of both air and ground crew, with a choice of themes of nose art. One of these themes was Star Wars, our Wg Cmdrs name was Dave Prowse, or horses of famous warriors which was the one that was used. I hope this is of some help.
  12. With the Viking almost finished, it is now time to start on the next project. I have been wanting to make one of these ever since I saw a grainy picture in the Gulf Air War Debrief book, but until recently I did not have enough information to complete it. Eighteen Luftwaffe Alpha Jets were based in Turkey to defend NATO assests incase Saddam decided to venture up north. The Model. Some extras. The Decals. A little help.
  13. I have just received one of the Alpha Jet sheets and was a little confused with the instructions, so thanks for clearing that up.
  14. I have now started to paint this thing. I first applied small green splodges to various panels, and then applied copydex over even smaller areas. Hopefully when the sand top colour is added I will be able to remove the copydex so that the green patches look like worn areas. I have not tried this before so I am hoping that it does work to some degree. Then it will be onto the missiles, and the question here is what colour are they painted? I am thinking white or a light grey, as the instructions say green.

    ES-3A Viking

Just a small update. I have added all the aerials under/above the fuselage, and under the wings. I am not sure if I have the correct amount as detials were taken from the 1/48th AMT kit, plus numerous photos which show the under fuselage mainly only from a side view. I have also added the U/C doors and hopefully I shall add the wings over the next night or so. Hopefully this shall be ready for display at Salisbury on Saturday. The drop tank and refuelling pod are also built up and are getting coats of matt varnish as I write this.
  16. I am sure that Dr Pepper Resins do an intake set for this kit.
  17. Thanks for the information gents, I shall go with the Airfix kit. Another question on what Enzo said, the cockpit set is for an E version whilst I am building an A, is there any difference in these two cockpits? Secondly what is special about the Stbd intake that it is the title of the update set?
  18. I have the RVHP conversion set which I would like to build some day if I can find the right markings.
  19. There was actually two experimental schemes the sandy one and the other one was three colours of grey called "Peanuts and Flipper". although the Sqn deployed to theatre, neither of these aircraft went. I am a bit cheeky as I have the sandy coloured one on the Gulf War S.I.G stand at most shows I attend, but I do state in the little description that I place next to the model that it did not take part in the war.
  20. Now that I have more details and the decals to boot, I am about to embark on a model of a Luftwaffe Alpha Jet that was based in Turkey during the Gulf war 1991. My next dilema is to decide which kit to use as I have both the Airfix and the Fujimi one. Does anyone out there have an opinion as to which of these is better. Also is there any aftermarket stuff that fits either if these kits.
  21. I have the 1/48th sheet and it is very good, covering early and late Singapore sircraft.
