  1. Ned, In the pic of the bridge in the link you posted, what's the equipment to port of the pelorus below the bridge screen? Asdic repeater? Tom
  2. Terry, I think I know. But is the emoji for the 'Liz' of F35 bit? Tom
  3. more “strong & stable” (if that’s not too Theresa May… Definitely not Liz Truss! A bit OT but would an Invincible have been able to handle our F35s? Tom
  4. Did Suffolk receive pom pom directors? I've been looking at (albeit limited) pics and diagrams of her and can't any. Tom
  5. The securing lines make a lot of difference. Nice touch. Nearly makes me want to whip out one of my Coastal Craft MTB's and get cracking. But not too keen on the idea of sitting in the garden cutting and prepping the resin hull to length. Tom
  6. Really coming together. I seem to have to pause and have a quick double-take to identify which ends which on this era of battleships. Tom
  7. Glad to hear he's well. Is their website up again? I thought I had it bookmarked (I haven't) but can't find it with a google search either. Tom
  8. Even worse that bleed under. When you remove the tape and realize that you've put red where the white should be! Tom
  9. There's a hovercraft museum! Suppose thinking about it...why not. There's a museum for virtually everything else. Your right that is a BIG kit! I built (badly considering what's available now in AM and reference) one in my early twenties to represent HMS Smilax my dad's first ship. I had aspirations (don't worry I grew out of them) of modelling all sorts of 72 scale ships. Never happened in the end. Bertie, you'll want to replace the railings if nothing else they scale up more like drainpipes. Tom
  10. Thanks Jon, AFAIK I used the kit figs (and maybe a kneeling one from the LCM III/Sherman kit). Gunthwaite do a range others have used. https://www.gunthwaite.co.uk/Index.html Tom
  11. I remember building this in my younger years. I always thought the Oerlikon looked overscale. Could you do a quick measure with your MicroMaster replacement to satisfy my curiosity? Any thoughts on crew figures yet. Or just the kit supplied? Tom
  12. I've seen WW2 photos (in a build thread here I think) with the shrouded type Lewis guns on an MTB/MGB so either type would be ok. Tom
  13. Have you tried searching fo 'Vickers K' or 'Vickers GO' instead of Lewis guns? ISTR the plexiglass turrets were made by Vickers (A subsidiary Armstrong somethingorother), so Vickers MGs seem to make sense to me. Tom
  14. I think in the first two pics the flare of the bows creates a shadow making the 'light' tone into a 'mid' tone. Tom edit top pic. Forefoot at waterline. There's a lighter triangular patch (out of shadow?). But it doesn't seem to be as light as the 'bow wave' below B turret.
  15. Are you fitting the twin or single Bofors at the stern? Tom
  16. The Queen Elizabeth's used oil fired instead of coal fired boilers. Tom
  17. I got this mob https://www.scalemates.com/kits/trumpeter-00406-german-leopold-gun-crews--142023 with the mortar. The size of the shell (and imagine trying to manually ram a 600mm morser shell) gave it away. I suppose you could use 4 or maybe 5 of 'em. Regarding the 'splayed' parts I think I remember they fitted somehow parallel to the hull sides (just a bit of jiggling and head scratching and voila! It all became clear!) Tom
  18. Dickrd, Probable strung those 4 words together only in my head! Don't know why I used 'pattern' here. Thank you, Jamie. Colour me less confused now. Tom
  19. I confess to being a little confused. Was there a pattern? It seems that hardly any two ships bore the same camouflage pattern (some of the same class). To me 'pattern' implies it was/could be repeated from ship to ship (rather like the schemes on RAF aircraft). So, for example, the Belfast scheme would also show up on a County class vat around the same time. Does the 'pattern' bit in the title refer to a 'formula' regarding % of surface covered by each colour; sequence of colour panels or similar? Or did the Admiralty 'We choose the paint and pattern for each ship' department constructed bespoke schemes for each ship? Did the Admiralty specify different colours for different theatres if the ship was in refit (say after returning from the Med. and they knew she was going to be ordered to Arctic convoys)? I know late war any ships going to the BPF had overall grey apart from the darker hull panel. Tom
  20. It is a bit of a monster. The crew (in my boxing at least) are for the Leopold rail gun, NOT the Morser. Tom
  21. Love them ratlines. Better shoes than a bit of model! Tom
  22. I'd say cradle is the correct term. Maybe it's just no one makes any AM replacements. Could you thin the kit parts somehow or scratch build? Tom
  23. Looking good! You could get a job in a car bodywork shop the amount of filler you must've used on your whifs! Tom
  24. I'm more the 'Suck it and see' type rather than throw money at a problem. If it doesn't work there's always Mr. Church's suggestion. Ta All Tom
  25. Just been looking at some instructions online (Got a 1/350 Abdiel coming for Christmas) and they want you to taper some brass for masts. How? Any one have a tried, tested method? TIA Tom
