  1. most modellers will use several types of glue during the course of putting a kit together. sorry if that does not help you immediately, but tell us what you are using to glue and what it is you are glueing.
  2. over all the years i have used matt paint brushed on, i always used humbrol enamels. however if you want the best matt/satin finish then you will need an airbrush. it is by far the best finish you could wish for. easy too. believe me, after mastering the airbrush, you will only use brushes for detailing on cars.
  3. i always use the warm lightly soapy water technique, but i may invest in some of the maplins spray clean.
  4. lovely model, very iconic cars, and the real ones are worth a fortune today. i too had capri's, i had a mk1 3.0 litre gtxlr, and two 3 litre ghia mk2's. happy days. i have a 1/24 die cast made by whitebox/quatroroute, in my mind it's the best and most accurate shell available today, ditto their mk1 escort 1300gt. great models both. (available on ebay.)
  5. this looks great, i admire your handywork. love the spark plugs !
  6. glad to see you are enjoying yourself. nice model.
  7. tamiya jaguar xjr9, nice kit with the odd challenge thrown in (decals/painting), its a good kit, but a poorly applied purple can spoil it. i agree about the 956, but avoid the 962.
  8. ah, so sorry, i did not notice that you were across the pond. discard all of my mad mutterings.
  9. i have been modelling for years, for many years i used automotive 'rattle' cans, halfords mostly. the results have generally been good, however, a few cock ups have been made along the way. the past few years i have been decanting the cans, allowing them to flash off for a few days. i then thin them with cellulose thinners, the results have been mostly good. but i was still getting inconsistent quality. i was recommended by a good friend to use zero paints for a consistent finish. i have tried them, and they wre probably the easiest paint to airbrush. they dry quickly (even in an unheated garage in the uk 2 weeks ago) they dry to a matt/satin finish, so require a clear gloss to top them off. i have seen you struggle with your paint and feel your pain. it has been said that there is a lesson in every kit, give your paint the elbow for your next kit, i will certainly plump for the zero option next time.
  10. nice progress on the lola, will we see it next weekend ?
  11. you could buy hexagonal plastic rod from little-cars, drill a small hole in the end, then cut it off to size, then paint/marker. not done it myself as it's a pain to keep at it. the braided wire can be had from a sewing shop.
  12. nice line up you have there, never seen E2A modelled before, a collective well done for all three.
  13. looking great, how quickly has that progressed, it takes me an hour to find my reading glasses before i do anything.
  14. that will be really impressive in such a large scale. i would go for a lightweight. pick which one you want to do and stick to it, the book the ultimate e type is the best reference you can get. making the hardtop will be interesting, you will have to make that master after all !.
  15. looking forward to seeing progress on this one. 49 FXN is a cracking car, seen it racing many times.
  16. it's a smashing kit, i'm sure you will enjoy it. i use Mr muscle kitchen cleaner to soak my chrome parts in, it brings chrome off nicely. give whatever you use a trial first on some scrap.
