I had a looks at one in the LHS today.

Its the old airfix mold which did not look too great in the box to me.

There is one new sprue with all the AEW bits which is up to modern airfix standards.

To be h9onest I was interested untill I saw it was the old mold.

Same here, Julien, I remember the horrors of the update on the Lynx many years ago,and I hope I'm wrong but it(the seaking) did not look inspiring, anyone notice a pattern here bf109(1/48th) good,seaking bad,if i'm right the next release should be brilliant.

It has been released, but it's not been re-worked, it's the old kit with an additional sprue. The new parts are nicely molded, the only gripe being the back of the sensor pods are molded flat where they have to be attached to a curved surface. The radome is also molded inflated. This is the last of the kit adaptions initiated under the Humbrol era to be released.

A picture of the extra sprue (test shot, hence the lurid colour);

Takes a lot of work to get the transparencies to fit, as they are about 2mm wider than the fuselage.

I was hoping they were going to tool new clear bits, as the rest of the kit is actually OK. (Not great, but ok!) Sorta like they did for the Islander. Pity.

the sample of this kit i bought from antics earlier this week [which had been returned to them], has

a warped nose below the windscreen and the early radome was poorly moulded, but these aren't

uncorrectable faults.

the decal sheet is good. has both A and B flt options for 849 sqn. i also liked the inclusion of the newer

style air filters too and most of the HAS5 bits.

btw, there is also an old almark decal sheet [s-13 i think] that has two options for the AEW2 and a HAS5

that you may still be able to find.

all in all, well done airfix.

They re-did the Islander clear parts because the ones from the original kit had been lost in the Airfix/Palitoy switch over.

Got to say, whilst it may sell, the Revell kit is so far advanced of it in terms of detail and moulding.

I received a review sample yesterday, which I only had chance to open before I went to pick up Caz & Christopher from the hospital (that too 6 hours!). I'll get a review of this and the recent 109E release up as soon as I can

Is it cheap enough to make it worthwhile just to get the AEW parts. Then you can add them to the Revell or Fujimi kits?

I have no plans to do this, mind you, I'm just curious.

Actually, one of the boxings of the Revell kit allows you to build a Mk.6 or an AEW.2

So, no need to kitbash
