just to add my istr, the revell 1/48 F-5F kit comes with an extra piece of plastic that looks quite similiar to the recce nose mentioned here.

some of my models have been refurbished with varying degrees of success, some not. my most successful refurb' is an old maintrack Hawker P1121, which istr is on display in one of the cabinets at the midland air museum. one way i dispose of models is to donate them to the 'give an old kit a new home' stand at SMW every november. empty boxes if in reasonable condition are donated to a local nursery and have been for several years now.

before they went belly-up the aviation workshop did a B2 set in resin with the wingtips and a bomb bay door. hannants may have some of these left. however, you will also need to add the heat exchanger [its the large box shape with intakes visible in most pictures of a B2 with blue steel near the nose of the missile]. also the tail cone will need the bumps adding on it depending on the serial of the particular victor you are modelling and when it was photographed. this ECM fit was changeable afaik. wez's idea about that ray rimmell article is a good one as that article is still one of the better victor modelling articles ever.

i know this is mildly OT, but i did start this thread. a second C-17 squadron.... lets see from 36, 53, 214, 511, and i'm sure that there are other dormant transport sqn numberplates, there are because 114, 115 and 267 have all seen post WW2 RAF transport use.

in other words then, no one really knows yet. i can see where XV107 is coming from, though. started something here i did and i did perhaps.

i'm wondering if there is any good gossip as to what the RAF's next eurofighter squadron might be? at SMW, i did wonder if it would be 43 sqn [and several said it might be] but was favoring the Air Staff doing something a bit left field and using a sqn number that had not been used for a while and that had clear scottish connections such as 151 sqn, [last active as a hawk sqn at one of the old TWU's]. still having seen someone at SMW wearing a 6 sqn tiffie t-shirt i'm thinking that while 43 sqn is perhaps the bookies favorite, it would be lovely to see 1 and 43 sqns back together again as they were at tangmere in the 1950's, never mind their pre WW2 rivalry. 6 sqn might just have fun trying to keep the peace if indeed they could, over to you lot for some more speculation.... trevor

just one minorly OT point here nick. what chance the harrier SIG ever do a display that was based around say USMC/Spanish/italian/thai harriers? i've never seen the harrier SIG do one? anyhow the WM blue eric i have in the C-scale kit is more subltely different than you might think. the pods seem if anything shallower than a standard ADEN gunpod.

a friend of mine is looking at the possibility of resin casting this but in 1/72 after meeting at the modelclub last night.

wrong there paul. chris was very pleased indeed with my sunday strip mine which was wrapped around the two minute silence. incidentially, did you buy anything at all, me did not see. anyway, back on track at the very least i can scratchbuild some more BLUE ERIC's its a great use for otherwise redundant harrier gunpods.

hmm, you are right dave. i had ones of the brand you quote for the MH-53's at mildenhall and elsewhere, and the same manu' for the KC-135E in a multi part format from collect-a-kit also.

spoilsport! i did though buy a 2nd F2 ADV conversion, trouble is i have decals for three different F2's now!

hmm, sometimes at SMW one finds some useful bits and bobs lurking.... i bought the old C-Scale Conversion Sets in 1/72 scale that covers this RAF ecm pod as used istr on some harrier GR3's during the falklands war rare or what! anyone else find anything else like that this year at SMW? [cue:sfx yazoo - upstairs at eric's [somewhere in the background]

just a small point here.... the latest issue of Combat Aicraft Monthly has an excellent poster for the RAF's centenary squadrons, which includes a fabulous shot of the 3 sqn typhoon airborne viewed from above giving excellent detail on stencils and appearance. i also believe that xtradecal 72-156 covers this machine too. you will need having seen the photo of the special in CAM, need to weather a model quite carefully of this typhoon.

i would also suggest asking friends nicely for the sea eagles in the new airfix 1/72 shar kits as they look better than the ones in the airfix kit of the buccaneer.

under a tonka no doubt andy! i have taken a look at the links provided and thanks to the guys who dug these up! lots of useful detail therein. think i'd like one to compare with the revell kit.

stretching the timeline back a bit on this particular sort of kit, etc, i have two different examples of AEW gannet kits that were issued as part vacforms and one of these with lots of WM too. iirc, one was by ID vacforms and the other was from aeroclub?. i bought both some years back from collect-a-kit as chris57 hereabouts may well recall.

you may find when you come to put the wings on [so to speak] that you need plenty of filler along the join line. i did when i made mine. however, you have made a good job with the intakes, so using the same idea again should work wonders.
