Pappy Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) G'day people, I was buying some WEM paints and whilst browsing this little guy caught my eye. It is a resin and PE multimedia WEM kit The kit features one main resin part consisting of the hull and superstructure, two separate 88mm turrets and a very fine fret of PE parts forthe railings and other FLAK armament. There is a very complete review here: http://www.steelnavy.com/WEMFlakLighter.htm The clean up consisted of a quick sanding of the hull's lower surface to eliminate some minor pour stubs and flow seams. The next task so far has been to fold up the various FLAK units. These are the Quad 2cm C38 FLAKvierlings and consist of about 9 parts each This is a single 3.7cm FLAK, and getting the small axle (made from fuse wire) to line up with the hole in the breech and the two holes on either side the splinter shield was an exercise in patience! enjoy, Pappy Edited March 30, 2010 by Pappy
Obi-Jiff Kenobi Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 That looks like a very nice kit, and fiddly work too! Nice job so far, Pappy. Obi-Jiff

Shar2 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Great work on those gun mounts. I love WEM kits, and having seen this, another could well be joining the Shar2 fleet.
Chris Hewitt Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Nice work, always keep looking at that one,on WEM site, very interesting, like the photos very clear, better than instructions
Pappy Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Achtung Englander!! G'day people, I managed a little progress over Easter. I decided to go with the 'typical' coastal area scheme. I used my approximation of the colours reccommended, and the brown may be a little too reddish and light, but I couldn't find any colour (or B&W for that matter) pics of the subject so I will claim artistic licence. I found it difficult to glue the prop shafts onto the wedges supplied, so I removed the wedges and inserted short lengths of plastic rod into three pre-drilled holes. The prop shaft supports are bits of PE 'sprue' off-cuts. The base colour and hull were airbrushed, but the deck and camo were brushed on over a couple of sessions. The FLAK armament is only dry fitted in these shots, I will attach it properly after the railings and weathering has been completed enjoy, Pappy
FZ6 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Great looking build so far. As I normally don't build many maritime models I've never seen one of these before it's unusual and very interesting.
Pappy Posted April 10, 2010 Author Posted April 10, 2010 G'day people, Thanks for all the encouragement. I have started adding all the railings. Most of them have been added, I just need to attach the main railings on either side of the main deck. Once these have been added all the armament can be added along with the peripheral bits as well, i.e. the crane and mast, and I think even a few figures to add a bit of life and a sense of scale, cheers, Pappy
Pappy Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 G'day people, I have managed a little more progress. All the railings, weapons and masts have now been added. I still need to add the rudders and screws, and then perhaps some crew, cheers, Pappy
Guest snipersmudge Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Very nice pappy like the colours look rather splendid
Pappy Posted May 29, 2010 Author Posted May 29, 2010 G'day people, Last little bit done on this one. I don't know why but all I needed to do to finish this one was add the props and rudders, but I just couldn't motivate myself to do it. Well I have added them at last. I just need to make a small base and I can call this one done, cheers, Pappy
pacificmustang Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 looks good pappy, coincidentally, a mate (Andrew Perren) and I were just discussing you last night, wondering what you were up to. Now we know!! Bruce
