crookedmouth Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I covered the early part of the build here but, over Christmas< I found there wasn't enough time to post more updates, work on the model and think of stuff to do with the left over turkey. anyway, it's done. The undercart was a bit of a pig, as I anticipated, and I rather wish I'd done the model gear up. apart from that, there were no real dramas, but: - I needed to cut out the preformed recesses for the cannon quite a bit. I think I should have set back the top two barrels a bit farther than I did, too. - The canopy fogged up a bit, but I've discovered PVA glue which I shall use on future models for sensitive areas like this. - The tail wheel warped a fair bit - it looks like the plane is trying to turn left, so it's no disaster. - Some of the decals cracked and tore, but no too badly. They didn't want to separate from the backing sheet so needed some coaxing. - My paint work leaves a lot to be desired as usual. Humbrol matt white enamel is not a good paint and it went on like putty. - I'm fairly pleased with my weathering - I had intended to make it look like she'd flown a few missions with nowt more than a rubdown with an oily rag between times. The panel chipping looks a bit heavy and I'll need to be a wee bit more delicate next time. - Oh, and the bl00dy spinners are too small for the nacelles! All in all, I'm happy with this and looking forward to my next job - a Roden 1/48 SE5a think of the rigging!

perry Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Made a good job of her mate and the cannons look set back enough imho

F-32 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Nice build, although everyone else has said it the Whirlwind truly was a magnificently gorgeous looking aircraft.
timbo33 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Nice One. The Whirlwind was certainly a striking looking aircraft. I must get the CA kit but I need to save my pennies up as they are a trifle steep...

I think there may be one lurking around with another member though, so if you ask in "wanted" you may get lucky. I can't remember how much I paid, but it wasn't that much...
