Vince Blackburn Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Here it is finally finished. This Ki 84 was probably flown by Capt. Yoshitaka Kusano, and depicts a second batch prototype. With scatchbuilt drop tank and center line rack
Bobs_Buckles Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Looks awesome Vinny boy! Well done matey. ibob
Guest les Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Nice on there vinny boy, but you rally need to get out. Top banana
Osher Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Nice job Vincenzo! I thought to myself that you were going over-board with scratchbuilding a centre-line tank, but now I can see why you've done it.
Seamus Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 (edited) That's a little beauty Nice to see another Japanese type, don't get all that many posted Edited September 18, 2008 by Seamus
bexwh773 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Vinny, I know naff all about WW2Japaneseaircraft, but it looks from my inexperienced eye to be ruddy marvellous. Can I assume from your drop tank that they used wooden drop tanks during the war? Thanks for sharing Bex
KiwiSteve Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Great work Vinny she looks gorgeous What did you use for the paint chipping and the paint wash?
OzH Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Don't normally go for theJapanesestuff myself, but that looks sweet! Really nice finish, just right on the chipping, luuvley
Mentalguru Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Now that I like! is it the 1/32 kit? Annnd, did a lot of research go into the painting, it just looks very tired and japanese- like it should, good to see you didnt totally cover it in flaked paint chips- excellent job all round, much impressed.
spitfire Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 That looks great, love the weathering, it's very realistic without being overboard, great job. Cheers Den
Stéphane Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Hello, Nice looking Ki-84, and the weathering is spot on ... And the wood effect and the drop tanks is really cool, too. Most of the japanese drop tanks of the period were non-strategic material, like bamboo or other wood ... Cheers Stef (#6)
Vince Blackburn Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 Many thanks to all with such lovely positive comments Ill try to answer as many questions as I can remember This is the 48th scale Hasegawa kit Most of the drop tanks in japoon service were pressed bambo, This one was wooden as it only featured on the late proto type 84 Pictured in the Bunrindo vol 19 I must also thank the invaluable help of Garry at Hannants London and Bob Buckles with all the imense help on getting the wood effect right on that drop tank The chipping was taught to me by Neil Ashby the Resident Phanton Guru, which is Extra Color Burnt iron with a little brown in it and lots and lots of patience The rest of the weathering was achived via a mixture of oils washed over the whole airframe cheers Vince Just started the Tamiya Crop Duster oops, Storch and will post in progress pics very soon
neilfgr2 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 vince, you forgot the record company, road crew, producer and your cat for egging you on when it was just not working right... etc ,etc Neil... ho ho ho
