Jb65rams Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 (edited) This is my entry for the group build. This will be a companion piece to a Mitchell I am building for the Bomber groupbuild. Edited October 30, 2011 by Jb65rams
AnonymousDFB1 Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I built this one and put it in a seascape a few years ago, alas my photos went when Fotonet folded
denstore Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Nice! I was thinking of building the same, but in 1/350. A true icon!
Bertie McBoatface Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Good choice. A significant moment in the war, a foretaste of the awful ending.
CPNGROATS Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 As Don has stated,......"Good choice. A significant moment in the war..." The USS Hornet is deserving to be included in this GB...!! Doolittle Cheers, ggc
Bertie McBoatface Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I hope you are still working on this one. I'd really like to see it as a part of our collective creation. I have discovered that the Hornet raid led directly to the Japanese invasion of Kiska and Attu in the Aleutians. They thought that the Doolittle had come from there and feared more and heavier bombing from the same source oe even a possible northern invasion. Ironically, once the Allies had ejected the invading forces they did build 10,000ft runways up there for B-29s to launch raids on Japan, and did at least plan to invade the Kuriles. In the event they were never used, due to the foul weather and the lack of Soviet support, but the Japanese based a significant amount of men and machinery up there to counter the threat -men and planes that McArthur's forces in the south didn't have to fight! It has even been argued that Doolittle 'won the war' in this way, though I think that's putting it a bit strong.
Jb65rams Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Still the plan. Haven't started yet as work, holidays and a kitchen revamp conspiring to limit modelling time at the moment.
LDSModeller Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Definately got to have this one, being one of the most iconic points of the Pacific war (that I count as Iconic) that marked the turn of the tide. Followed by Coral Sea, Midway, Solomons etc Look forward to your build Regards Alan
Bertie McBoatface Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Still the plan. Haven't started yet as work, holidays and a kitchen revamp conspiring to limit modelling time at the moment. I'll let you off then. lol. Glad that you are still with us though.
oldhouse Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 There is still time for your build !! will follow it with a great interest !!
Jb65rams Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 Just to prove I haven't forgotten this GB. To add a bit of extra interest, I am planning to leave some of the shutters open on the rear hanger and populate it with some wildcats.
Jb65rams Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Haven't posted for a while but progress has continued. I am leaving a couple of the shutters open and having some wildcats in the hanger. Although not convinced you will see much when complete. The model came together quite quickly and I had a finished model on my hands, so apologies for the lack of work in process photos. Even in 1/700 the B25 is a tail sitter! And finally photographed with the 1/72 Mitchell I completed for the Bomber Group Build.
Chris FFZ Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Came out very nicely, love the picture with the large B-25.
Basosz Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 very nice. That last picture is great btw. Very forced perspective but very convincing
Bertie McBoatface Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 very nice. That last picture is great btw. Very forced perspective but very convincing You are dead right there. Squint enough to hide that stand and it looks like cover art from the Victor or Hotspur. Champion!
