zero Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well I have just start this and it's Spitfire Mk I/II so I'll build this to sit along side the ME109 I have just finished. the Decals are for April 1940 (so there more Battle of France, than Battle of Britain) but my view is that the Battle of France is featured in the film and therefore technically this is as valid as some of the other aircraft of the time but were not actually featured in the film. I'll leave that one up to the moderators to decide, I can always get replacement decals for slightly later if need be!) Anyway the usual Revell boxing (Decals kindly supplied by Erwin and the kit ones were Kaput!) And the kit so far (parts separated in to need for the build) Painted, and test fit of the main bits (which is a bit naff! IMHO) Dave
colin ritchie Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well at least you don't have to engrave the wings - one of the blessings of that kit .. I built mine a couple of years ago , and it seemed to be an ok build , not too much in the way of filling/fettling .. but that blessed re-engraving of the fusalage .. Ugh!

I'm about to start the very same kit, and do the fuselage rescribing..
cmatthewbacon Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Oh don't say that. I'm about to start the very same kit, and do the fuselage rescribing.. Personally, I wouldn't bother rescribing much. There are only a few visible recessed panel lines on the real thing - mostly around the cowling, which doesn't seem to fit very well in 1:1 scale either! Get the latest issue of "The Aeroplane" which has some beautiful air-to-airs of a restored to factory fresh Mk 1, and you can easily see which panel lines are actually clearly visible. I'd just sand the rest down a bit to knock them back, making sure to keep some visible rivets in some areas (again, clear to see on the pictures). PM me if you want a CD of my walkaround photos of the Mk 1 at Cosford, which get up close and personal with the exterior (I promised not to touch her, and the guy let me get underneath, close up and all around her). bestest, M.
zero Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 I have no intentions of rescribing mine, I know there is a mix and match of panel lines, but I'm happy to live with that. I'm not looking for a build that going to take weeks, So it will be a complete OOB build with the kit decals if okay, replacements if not. I'm not going to weather this hard either, I only lightly weathered the 109 I just built, so I'll do this on a par with that. Sadly I've done no more today, to busy with other things but I'll make a start over the weekend.
Dave Gibson Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Oh don't say that. I'm about to start the very same kit, and do the fuselage rescribing.. I wouldn't re-scribe. The fuselage panels were lapped, so raised detail would be closer to reality. I Have the Airfix Vc ready for painting. That's a raised line fuselage and engraved wings. The mix looks good. Dave

Dave Gibson Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 you mean like this? Dave Yes, that's it. They look verygood indeed. I chose the Seafire IIIc because they were tho only decals that weren't flawed. Dave.
