This is going to be a little bit silly but alot of fun. I bought an old 1/72 Airfix Spitfire from the recent bag reissue so I could steal the decals for my other kit, but then that left me with a full kit doing nothing. what to do? Well paint it up in Barley grey and put Eurofighter Typhoon markings seems the most logical and obvious choice that I'm sure every modeller would have come to.

I'm not going to bother too much with making each seam line smooth or masking tape for seatbelts etc, etc. The kit is decent in terms of accuracy but quite antiquated when it comes to detail and fit, so there's not too much point agonising over it. No, I'm just going to build this one quickly for a bit of fun. I'm sure there could be many crazy background stories as to how such a what-if could come about. The one I like at the moment is cutbacks in defence spending has meant a new period of frontline service for the BBMF....ha!

So, here's the progress of last night

The kit went together very quickly, as I'm sure most of you on BM know because I bet most have you have built this kit at least once. I just painted the interior black and left it at that, nothing fancy at all.

Quickly preshaded but not with any precision, then a quick blast of white primer because I thought the preshading was too dark... oh well!

No. But now I think I want to.

Its a bit like the Hawk scheme painted as a Spitfire but in reverse. I like it!

Which unit? Look forward to seeing it.

Yeah it is a bit like the Hawk anniversary scheme with the concept reversed.

I've sprayed on the light grey but with my method of blasting the paint on I've obliterated any preshading. Thats no matter cause I can pick a few lines out later with post shading.

Decals and a few detail bits done! Well, I've missed the two letter code on the tail which I will put on soon, but it gives a good idea of what the scheme looks like on the Spit. Not sure that it looks that good, but you've got to try these things every once and a while...

Fascinating idea, looks great! Might I humbly suggest that the 2-letter code would look better forward of the roundel on the fuselage side? Tail is already a touch busy!

Thanks!

Yeah thats a fair idea, I was running out of space on the tail. Apparently the Typhoon has a bigger one, but I've yet to see convincing evidence...

I also think that if this scheme was being done properly, they would resize certain things, especially the squadron emblem. that way a small one could be placed near the cockpit or above the fin flash which should also be of different proportions to look better. Still, I'm just having fun and using the bits in front of me. :P

It's finished! All that needed really was a bit of postshading/weathering and then a flatcoat. I think it looks pretty neat and I'm happy with it.

What an interesting idea a reverse historic scheme :) . She looks a treat, the markings look good (maybe the Sqn. crests need resizing but thats all I'd change) you have managed to capture th Typhoon look well.

now do a typhoon in bob colors! awsome

Haha yeah that'd be fun. Not a anniversary scheme liek is sometimes done, but in full BoB colours. I do have other crazy ideas like painting a F-15 or Apache in late war Luftwaffe mottle. I reckon something along those lines would look neat.
