Blimey, that is seriously impressive, especially the wheels.

Thanks Gogser, much appreciated

A few nuts and bolts here and there plus I did the period correct 'lipstick' rear light.

Sans lens which will be added after painting. Chuffed that I can use a PCB rivet (Used on the Leyland Retriever) as the grommet through the mudguard

I know I'm moaning quit a bit about this kit but to add to the poor indexing the bike they used as reference for this was not original. There are a lot of bits which are post war or just don't bear any relation to an actual part! But in their defence and reading about the actual bikes, back in the 70's most 3HW's were not very well preserved and originality was very much a matter of taste! I've found that 99% of the ones still around are runners so have had to be upgraded to be legal and safe.

I'm still putting off the front forks so will look at the seats next. Oh and I've also found a few more missing bolts which need adding 😁

Cheers all

I did a seat 😁

Using the frame and nylon kit cover as a mould I sandwiched some PVA soaked felt like cloth (No idea where I got it or what it is sorry) then trimmed and CA glue coated it and finally used filler and plenty of sanding. I need to give it an undercoat to see how well it's come out.

I also started on the pillion seat as well. Needless to say the kit one isn't accurate at all.

Oh! and while I was whittling away big brother texted with a few comments, he being an ex rally-cross biker. If you remember previously I commented on the 'two valves' on the wheels. Well he knows what they are. The 'Other valve' is what is called a 'Rim Lock'. It's to stop the tyres from slipping around the rims and were / are fitted to off road bikes mostly which have lower tyre pressures. Still used.

@JamesP I think this is more likely than weights. What you reckon?

Therefore I've added them :)

Finally plucked up the courage and started on the front forks. Fit is terrible and will need some work to get the wheel straight against the mudguards but nothing new! I'm actually starting to enjoy this now the bulk of the kit is done and I can concentrate on the scratching. Lower mudguard bracket was wrong. Break cable etc was over size and no detail. Lower spedo mechanisum poor and spedo bracket was wrong. Actually the whole of that drum break front housing is in the wrong place. It should be turned about 20deg anti clockwise however it was too late when I realised. That rod is anealed 0.6mm rod for the spedo cable once everything is in place.

Superb work there Andrew.

John.

Tah john, appreciated 😊👍

I'm liking the optimistic past tense above 😂 still a way to go:

Scratch spedo

Redo the seat

Scratch the pillion frame and seat

Scratch the pannier frames

Remake the pump (it's too short and fat) reposition one pump clip

Scratch a wiring loom scratch the amp meter

Sort out the top front frame

Sort out the handle bars (and what ever is wrong with it!)

Scratch the horn button

I'm Pondering not doing the pannier bags, depends on how the frames turn out.

Then the helmet and goggles and possibly scratch a pair of gloves plus a little extra to show why it's not being ridden 😉 I've dropped the idea of a pigeon carrier 😂

Cheers all

Mostly panel beating and welding today 😊 Need a bit of straightening and tidying up. Bare bones with latches, brackets, wingnuts etc to do yet. I go some solder paste meant for surface mount parts and I must say I like it. Very accurate and minimum amounts needed. Perfect for our world 👍🏻

I think I'll leave the bags off as tou can see so much more of the bike without them. I'll see.

Cheers all
