PlaStix
Hi Ben. Good to see you back underway again and I always think it's good to get the wheels out of the way. Kind regards, Stix
badger
Some progress on this tonight. I've been busy avoiding tackling the wheels by working on my massive diorama the last week or so. However since my "build buddy" Big X has gotten his wheels and tracks on I felt rather ashamed of my cowardice so have finished off cleaning up and assembling the wheels and got them mounted. I also fitted the idlers And to finish off made the exhaust, although I left the final piece on the sprue and assembled it onto this. Back to work tomorrow but will try and do some more during the week All the best Ben

badger
Cheers Stix Yep - feel rather relived this bit of the build is out of the way now. More soon All the best Ben
badger
A little bit of progress on this tonight. Have fitted the exhaust, brackets and the auxiliary generator exhaust (forgot to drill the holes for this before I stuck the hull together!). At the front I've fitted the towing eyes, spare track crew hatches and used the first part from the eduard etch set for the retaining bar on the spare track. I then fitted the rather more to scale thickness spare wheel holder from the Eduard set And that's it for tonight - more soon. After a bit of a struggle with motivation I'm back enjoying this again. Hatches are open as it'll be getting 3 crew members eventually. Don't think I'll get chance to do any tonight but there will be more soon. All the best Ben
badger
Mini update. Just sorted out a trio of suitable crew figures. These are my usual AB figures and left to right will be the commander, driver and radio operator. All the best Ben

I'm a huge fan of this range as the figures have a great deal of character compared to many other braille scale offerings.

They are great figures I have a full army of his 15mm Napoleonics and somehow they too are full of character. I wish he would do some in 1/48scale as very little is available .which such life in them.

badger
Some more progress tonight. The sprockets have been assembled and push fitted so they can be removed to help fit the tracks. The air filter has been fitted, as have the spare wheels. The gun barrel, but not the muzzle brake has been attached - I really am a fan of metal barrels as there's no cleaning up of mould lines and the muzzle brake doesn't need drilling out. The last bits of zimmerit have been fitted around the mantlet and I decided to apply it to the rear mudguards and lower section of the front ones. This coincidentally is exactly how Dragon have it on their 1/35 mid version. I didn't bother applying the etch piece to the sight cover on the turret front as previous experience tells me it doesn't fit well and the Dragon kit / reference photos show it wasn't always applied. More soon All the best Ben Edited January 12, 2019 by badger

badger
Tonight's progress has been to build the jack. I started by trying to assemble the etched replacement from an ET Models set. I got the basic structure together but realised that the foot and handle they offer are widely out of scale - almost 1/35!! This coupled with ridiculously overcomplicated brackets meant I binned the idea after an hour fighting it. I then used a couple of the etch bits, a stretched sprue handle and the brackets from the Eduard set to dress up the kit jack which I am happy enough with. Sadly when I fitted it to the tank I realised most of my hard work is completely hidden as its on the side facing the hull superstructure. It's just about visible in the photo.
