Troy Smith
probably too late, but Merlins are painted black, this is a IIb, Z5252, pulled out of a very cold lake in Russia in 2004, it's all original paint well preserved, note the exhaust haven't rusted away see for more http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/sheppard/hurricane_Z5252/index.htm and Hurricane internals apart from cockpit side walls and rear bulkhead are painted aluminium, including wheel wells and gun bays, until a changeover it seems in 1942. see http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234963507-all-the-hurricane-questions-you-want-to-ask-here/&do=findComment&comment=1682406 useful photos in these http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/61201-gloster-hurricane-cockpit-colour/ http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/52968-hurricane-mk1-cockpit-colour/&do=findComment&comment=742480 I know you like hurricanes, you may wish to have a look through some threads i compiled here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234996018-reference-thread/#comment-2240355 regarding the V7101 scheme http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234915830-69-sqn-hurricane-v7101-colour-scheme-query/ Tony O T knows more, HTH T

celt
Thanks for the info Troy Smith,I know the Merlin was black, but it looks boring, call it artistic licence. Thanks for watching bbudde.Remember I am not a good modeller,so overlook the bad workmanship.

celt
Thanks The Spadgent,I have always used a hairy stick because I find painting relaxing,my models are never going to win comps[even if I entered them],so the finish I get is okay for me.I have never cared about accuracy regarding paint and their correct colours or shade,I will leave that to the experts,I use whatever paint I have got in stock that looks closest.

Bodmin
Watching with interest. I have had this lined up for my next build for a while but it keeps falling down the pecking order.
celt
Pic of underneath, the wheel well is pretty complete and I go and spoil al that detail by gluing the wheels closed. Edited February 11, 2017 by celt
celt
The cockpit "glass" fitted well. Apolgies for my painting errors,I dont use masks or any of that stuff that makes this job easier.
celt
I did not put the engine in the nose, as it seems a waste of all the painting and gluing,so I put it on a coaster, and yes Troy Smith,it should be black, but I like it this way. If you want to correct any errors on the transparent parts I find you can take acrylic paint off with a cocktail stick. Just scratch away the bits you don't want. Great scheme you've picked by the way. Cheers Greg

Cheers Greg Thanks GREG DESTEC,but as I do not have a good completion record I will leave this alone,I usually do a couple of gaffes per model and I have already thrown the wing gun panels away with the boxI dont want to tempt fate by scratching the paint on the canopy.

celt
Went to check the box for the wing panels and to my horror, the box had been put in the recycling and had been collected.
