Eric Mc Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 It's the most charismatic launcher since the Space Shuttle as far as I'm concerned. I really like the way hydrogen flames seem to lick around the base of the rocket all the time during ascent. I also like the fact that it doesn't have solids. I like rockets with clean, non-smokey trails - especially when they pass through the condensation layer.
GrahamS Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 News from Sky: http://news.sky.com/story/1384434/nasa-spacecraft-prepares-for-test-flight Graham
Eric Mc Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 That Sky article was pretty pathetic. No detail of any sort at all. If you want to hear a very good update, NASA held a press conference earlier on this evening - http://spaceflightnow.com/2014/12/02/video-orion-countdown-status-briefing/
GordonD Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Here's the Beeb's take on it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-30234625 Fingers crossed...
Eric Mc Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Live coverage on various websites at the moment. I'm watching here and here - http://www.ustream.tv/nasahdtv/theater http://spaceflightnow.com/2014/12/02/orion-eft1-mission-status-center/ Both showing slightly different feeds at the moment.
Mike Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Have I got time to go get a coffee? Launching at 5pm our time, or is that when the coverage starts?
Eric Mc Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 It's scheduled to lift off at 12.05 GMT (just after mid -day) i.e in about 35 minutes..
GordonD Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 It's on hold... there's a boat on the range. Send in an A-10 with a missile - problem solved.
Mike Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 New launch is 12:17 our time. Flippin' sight-seers!
Cheshiretaurus Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Is that a burning flare on the left or vapor lit up orange by the rising sun?
Cheshiretaurus Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Excess hydrogen being vented and burned off. Thanks Getting more tense than waiting for the next day of Airfix advent calender.
Eric Mc Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 And now a ground wind violation. Launching rockets is a tricky business.
Mike Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Looks that way - lost track of whether it was just a gust, or a general increase and hold.
Eric Mc Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 And now an unexpected "Red Light". I have a funny feeling it might not go today.
Eric Mc Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Another wind related hold. I think this is going to be an ongoing issue.
Cheshiretaurus Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Someone get a rifile and blow the anemometer off its mast.
