roymattblack
It's actually stuff called Ronseal over here. It's like a thick coloured varnish - loads of different wood colours. Goes on like paint.
Codger
You guys have some good stuff to work with; that megaseal tape, this varnish, that resin and Halfords paint!

roymattblack
Hello you guys - just a quick update. I've been working on some Dunlop style wheels for a while, and the first rims are now out of the mould. The grey wheel is the first result. A mould was made (blue rubber) and another set of wheels was cast. The vent holes were drilled through. I've sprayed one silver and added some tiny bolts. I have also printed some Dunlop decals to go on the finished wheels later on..... Overall, quite happy with the result. Roy. Nigel Heath
Lovely work there Roy, I am very impressed with your casting and detailing skills.
Codger
Superb work my friend. And better than a zillion spokes! Will you cast tires too or source them from a kit?
roymattblack
The tyres are already cast..... They are 'generic' - no names etc on them. I did them ages ago for the C Type, and cast more for use on the D Type. I've even got a set ready for the future Aston DBR1..... Roy. Pete in Lincs
You guys have some good stuff to work with; that megaseal tape, this varnish, that resin and Halfords paint! To be fair, we started long before you guys.
Brandy
Great wheels, they should set it all off very nicely. Ian
elderly
Roy - That interior is coming along fantastically! The wheels look good too; are you going to create similar; but with oblong holes for your E-Type project?
roymattblack
The E Type wheels will be similar, but smaller too. The lightweight E Types had rims 1" smaller than the road cars, or the C and D types so completely new wheels are needed - which also means new tyres. Roy. roymattblack
Work is proceeding on the firewall and engine frame. This has been made from thick plasticard and brass section. LOTS of BMF and flattened Coke cans used so far. I have several good images of the actual frame and hopefully it will work out ok as I don't actually have any 'proper' scale plans of the chassis/frame for this car, like I did for the C Type. I'm being careful to make sure the measurements tie up with the plans that I have for the car body, interior and wheels arrangements. I'm also using the nice Revell Jaguar XKSS kit as reference as that car was just a road version of the D Type so the majority of firewall and framework was identical. Roy. Codger
Rivets, battery well, BMF - it all looks great. How do you keep the finished body safe while handling it so often? Wear gloves? Pray heavily? I'm always so afraid to mush or scratch mine - it's a constant battle...
roymattblack
I try to pick the body up using the central tub centre-panel.The bit between the two cockpits. I take care to hook my fingers under it. Or just hold it by either end of the under floor panel. There's also a constant 'yellow duster' attack by me to remove any stray finger prints. The paint is pretty hard now but even so - It's a concern. I suppose I 'ought' to leave the whole thing alone for at least another 2-3 weeks really for the paint to set really rock solid. Trouble is, I want to get on with it..... I've now made up the basics of the 'picture frame' as Jaguar call it. Side braces and umpteen smaller tubes next. Roy. Codger
More beautiful work. The joints show no solder fill; is it all CA? It looks so clean and all the joints are smooth. A clinic on small part fabrication........
roymattblack
It's mainly good old Araldite epoxy.... Just a few pictures of the Browns lane 'factory floor'.... Roy. Edited November 25, 2014 by roymattblack
Codger
When you do the E-Type, you will have an unmatched Jaguar museum. C, D and E-types; just great history. Meant to mention in my other post, I found Tamiya's yellow tape and Frog tape for delicate surfaces to be excellent scuff and mark protectors for the finished areas. Just be sure paint has gassed-out and is fairly hard. Dunno if you get Frog over there but it's just like Tammy tape only much cheaper. Comes in 1" and 1 7/8" widths by 60 yards. roymattblack
It's the little Revell 1/24 Jaguar XKSS. I built it LOONNGG ago.... I'm using it as chassis frame reference... Roy.
roymattblack
A mini-update as I haven't done a lot in the last few days. The brake master cylinder has been made up using various sizes of tube, rod, thin ally sheet and wire. A side plate needs adding and then the reservoir.... Roy. roymattblack
Reservoir, side brace, return spring, pressure overflow and initial brake pipe feeds now added...... Roy. Edited November 27, 2014 by roymattblack

roymattblack
Katastrofe!!!! (Catastrophe....) I've discovered that my front firewall on the passenger side is VERY wrong..... Razor saw, sharp knife, Dremel..... The car now looks a MESS - I'll sort it though. These things are sent to try us. That's what comes from trying to work from web pictures and a few books. OH for a 'proper' set of D Type plans, such as I had for the C Type..... Roy.
