DaveJL Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) Hello all, I've decided to build somewhat of a tribute to recognise the drawdown of 13 years of Op Herrick by building some of the equipment that was used in the conflict. Multiple builds in multiple scales, not all will be aircraft though! This is what I've decided on so far: 1/144 C-17 1/72 C-130J 1/48 WAH-64D 1/48 Harrier GR-9 1/35 Jackal 2 I'll add all the builds to this thread instead of starting several. First up will be the C-17. Comments and suggestions welcome. Dave Edited November 9, 2014 by DaveJL 1
DaveJL Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 Well the first kit has arrived! Revell 1/144 C-17. Looks a nice kit. Will be displaying this 'in flight'. Start will be made soon. Dave
Alpha Delta 210 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Glad to see it arrived in such good nick, Dave and that it will be the first model in your great theme!
DaveJL Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 Glad to see it arrived in such good nick, Dave and that it will be the first model in your great theme! Thanks mate!
DaveJL Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Second kit arrived today. 1/48 Hasegawa AH-64 Apache. I will be using the Heritage AH.1 conversion set (salvaged from an old build) along with Armycast's FOD covers, Revell kit decals and Sprue 'T' off another AH-64 kit to create a MTADS aircraft. Hopefully someone out there will have some info and photos of the new HIDAS suite too! She'll be marked as ZJ228. Dave
DaveJL Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Thanks mate, hope I can do them justice! Pretty much set on a 1/72 Hercules, just the 1/35 to decide now Dave 1
DaveJL Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Thinking of a WMIK or SAS DPV, the latter is rather pricey though! Dave
DaveJL Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Ordered a 1/72 C-130J off ebay for £26 so that just leaves the 1/35 slot to be decided! Pictures when it arrives. Dave
DaveJL Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 Third kit arrived today. Will be completely OOB: Comes with a nice reference booklet (albeit mostly of an Italian AF machine) Might see if i'm brave enough to attempt this: Kind of thinking I should have gone for the E/H boxing and done it as a SF Herc. But ah well! If i'm not brave enough to attempt the stretch conversion, the 'shorty' will do! Dave 1
DaveJL Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 What a brilliant idea. Signed up for this one. Cheers Tim, hope I can do them justice! Have a few builds to clear then I should be able to crack on. Just missed out on a 1/35 Accurate Armour Jackal 2 on ebay going for a good bit less than a new one Dave
DaveJL Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Collected some other bits for this project... Thanks to Parabat for the MTP shirt! Dave
Kallisti Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Seconded on the wish for a 1:35 Mastiff! Can I tempt you into a 1:35 scale Scimitar 2?
DaveJL Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Seconded on the wish for a 1:35 Mastiff! Can I tempt you into a 1:35 scale Scimitar 2? Are there 1/35 Mastiffs available?? Hmm, not sure on the Scimitar but i'm sorely tempted by Accurate Armours Jackal 2, although at £99, it's bloody dear! Maybe some kind chap on here will have one lurking that they're not likely to build... yeah right!
Kallisti Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 What about the 1:48 Coyote & Jackal from Airfix - the 1:48 Warrior was an excellent build. The only 1:35 Mastiff "available" is a resin kit from Cromwell, and we all know what a can of worms trying to order anything from there can be!

No idea that any sort of Mastiff was available. Would quite like one!
Warris Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Collected some other bits for this project... Thanks to Parabat for the MTP shirt! Dave If you want an ISAF badge or any more MTP bits give me a shout Al 1
Kallisti Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 and? Whats it like? How difficult was it to get hold of? Have you built it yet?
DaveJL Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 If you want an ISAF badge or any more MTP bits give me a shout Al Thanks Al, was thinking about an ISAF patch actually!
DaveJL Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 and? Whats it like? How difficult was it to get hold of? Have you built it yet? I'd be keen to know too!
DaveJL Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Apologies for sounding like a bit of a tight bottom, but does anyone know where I could pick up the 1/35 AA Jackal just a little bit cheaper? It's £99 posted to N. Ireland and was hoping to add a few figures and the like to make a diorama, but would probably bankrupt me! Cheers Dave
