Another update.

I demasked the eye stalk:

I am rather pleased with that.

When I came to dismantle my lens test I found the GS Hypo was still semi-liquid and the super thin CA by far the toughest adhesive:

Before I could glue the lamp covers to the bases I had to remove these little vacforming pips:

Here they are glued in place with GS Hypo (definitely not CA):

When I did a test fit between the eye and stalk it was an extremely tight fit, it can't be paint, it must be that pesky glue. Files made little impression so I reamed it out with my motor tool:

I then went on the hunt for some fine multistrand wire for the eye LED, pickings were thin but I found this old phone cable which looks ideal:

To get the wires through the pivot pin I drilled out this slot:

I don't think it has compromised structural integrity too much.

I then resumed slat production:

I got a couple made and it was then update, and bath time.

There may not be any more Dalek work tonight. I am competing in a "Come Dine with Me" cookery competition at work on Thursday and want to get a couple of the dishes done tonight. I think the resulting chef's perks will keep me going without the need to cook a formal dinner. I have a theme of "An English Summer Picnic", let's see how that goes down in wintery Scotland.

For my picnic feast I cooked two recipes tonight.

The first was Pigs in Blankets:

Note that here I have used 97% pork chipolatas and kept then as a string, just dividing each sausage into three by twisting (not twerking), By keeping then in a string it makes for easier handling and stops the contents oozing out.

I made up a simple glaze consisting of some of one of my homemade sweet chilli sauces and runny honey.

Here it is all glazed and ready to go into the oven (@ 180C):

here it all is 38 minutes later all cooked and lovely:

My next recipe was Cheshire Cheese Sables, basically cheese, thyme and paprica filled pastry like biscuits, topped with sesame seeds, here they are in their raw form:

And here they are after an 18 minute cooking period:

Once cooled the PIB's were stored in the glass casserole dish last seen in the paint stripper incident (it has been washed):

One was sampled for QC purposes and scored 9/10 on the Nigey rating scheme.

After cooking two more batches, the cheesy biscuits were also stashed away in an adapded DDS type container:

They also scored a 9/10 ranking.

There are about 50 of them, hopefully enough for the hungry gannets on Thursday.

Dalek Diary - Day 46

Interim build update.

The middle section of the neck is narrower than the others so I measured at a few points on the template and did a freehand, dot to dot curve:

Here you can see the different lengths for bottom, middle and top:

After another application of sticky spray the mesh was marked out, not too much waste at the bottom as you can see:

The off-cuts need to be put in the modelling materials storage facility but I am not sure how:

In the end I used their shipping container:

I glued on the mesh using a Mk 2 finger protector:

I then finished drilling out for and glued in the first neck bars:

The middle ring is tricky. I had wanted to re-center one of the holes but files would not reach it, in the end I used my motor tool at a very odd angle. In the process I caught the ring which will need some filler later.

Here is the new long drill in action on the second bars, I am praying throughout all of this that it does not break:

Here are the trio of all the three holes, I could not get them any closer together without the drill wanting to veer into the adjacent one:

Using a combination of will power and finger pressure on the tip I could get the drill the go where I wanted it. Here I think you can just see that the drill has a bent contour, just tweeking the bar alignment:

Here all the holes have been drilled. A couple did coalesce, like here:

Next I will be fitting the remaining bars.

Here is the final part of today's Dalek update.

I had a bit if a clean up using this toy brush thoughtfully supplied by my landlord:

Here are all the trefoil bars installed:

Jorgen was right, they do look much sharper than the moulded kit originals and at least these line up.

I then did a fit check with the dome:

As you can see the plastic by the eye socket is still moving around. I wonder if the solvents in the paint have reactivated it?

The last job of the day was tidy up the bars with some filler (white Milliput):

I have filled all of these except for the one at 12 O'clock.

I now have to go off and make some more picnic dishes.

Here are my remaining picnic recipes.

The first is smoked salmon crepe spirals. So to start I had to make the pancakes:

Five off with a small spare one with lemon juice and golden syrup to keep the chef alive a bit longer. I then trimmed them up and added a blended mixture of smoked salmon, cream cheese, lemon juice, chives, freshly ground black pepper and sea salt:

Slices of smoked salmon were applied and then rolled up:

My next recipe was a drink; cloudy lemonade. Made simply by blending four unwaxed lemons with caster sugar and some sparkling water:

Passing this through a fine sive:

To arrive at a concentrate that will be added to more sparkling water tomorrow:

This is slightly adapted recipe from Nigella's "Forever Summer" - I got that wrong, its from "Nigella Express". I am a big Nigella fan for a number of reasons:

I decanted it in to a spare bottle for transportation:

I then started on my final recipe, a sweet one of peanut butter and choc chip cookies:

The recipe is from this book dedicated to picnic recipes. I have cooked it before but although the ingredients list mentions choc chips, the method is silent on the matter so I never rated it properly, this time I will:

After an hour or so, the salmon spirals had firmed up enough to trim the ends, more perks for the chef:

I will finsh cutting to shape at work tomorrow but I have produced one example to show you how they will look (bottom RH corner).

I cooked serveral batches of the cookies, here are some of them cooling:

Now I have to go and tidy up the kitchen.

Thanks hendie, an effort yes but I did enjoy it. I was not sure it would work out but I think it has. Still a lot more to do though and my deadline is looming.
