Attitude Adjustor the Dalek - Is Now Finished

Recommended Posts

Another update.

I demasked the eye stalk:

P1020237_zpsb74576fd.jpg

P1020238_zpscc94fefa.jpg

I am rather pleased with that.

When I came to dismantle my lens test I found the GS Hypo was still semi-liquid and the super thin CA by far the toughest adhesive:

P1020239_zpsc61eaaf2.jpg

Before I could glue the lamp covers to the bases I had to remove these little vacforming pips:

P1020240_zps4d55dbab.jpg

Here they are glued in place with GS Hypo (definitely not CA):

P1020241_zpsa3b66a38.jpg

When I did a test fit between the eye and stalk it was an extremely tight fit, it can't be paint, it must be that pesky glue. Files made little impression so I reamed it out with my motor tool:

P1020242_zpsd18605c0.jpg

I then went on the hunt for some fine multistrand wire for the eye LED, pickings were thin but I found this old phone cable which looks ideal:

P1020243_zps5af7d618.jpg

To get the wires through the pivot pin I drilled out this slot:

P1020244_zps31c5dade.jpg

I don't think it has compromised structural integrity too much.

I then resumed slat production:

P1020245_zps660424e4.jpg

I got a couple made and it was then update, and bath time.

There may not be any more Dalek work tonight. I am competing in a "Come Dine with Me" cookery competition at work on Thursday and want to get a couple of the dishes done tonight. I think the resulting chef's perks will keep me going without the need to cook a formal dinner. I have a theme of "An English Summer Picnic", let's see how that goes down in wintery Scotland.

I can post some pictures if you are interested.

Bye for now,

Nigel

OK, I will do that. Postal addresses are readily available from the electoral roll but I think you are right, there are a lot of scammers out there. Thanks for your concern. Does anyone want to see my picnic recipes?

For my picnic feast I cooked two recipes tonight.

The first was Pigs in Blankets:

P1020246_zps51e92381.jpg

Note that here I have used 97% pork chipolatas and kept then as a string, just dividing each sausage into three by twisting (not twerking), By keeping then in a string it makes for easier handling and stops the contents oozing out.

I made up a simple glaze consisting of some of one of my homemade sweet chilli sauces and runny honey.

Here it is all glazed and ready to go into the oven (@ 180C):

P1020248_zps98049585.jpg

here it all is 38 minutes later all cooked and lovely:

P1020249_zps39bdb8e3.jpg

Pete, sorry about all these cooked pork products.

My next recipe was Cheshire Cheese Sables, basically cheese, thyme and paprica filled pastry like biscuits, topped with sesame seeds, here they are in their raw form:

P1020250_zps43f47572.jpg

And here they are after an 18 minute cooking period:

P1020252_zps7a1784a4.jpg

Once cooled the PIB's were stored in the glass casserole dish last seen in the paint stripper incident (it has been washed):

P1020251_zps755b881d.jpg

One was sampled for QC purposes and scored 9/10 on the Nigey rating scheme.

After cooking two more batches, the cheesy biscuits were also stashed away in an adapded DDS type container:

P1020253_zpsf61decc1.jpg

They also scored a 9/10 ranking.

There are about 50 of them, hopefully enough for the hungry gannets on Thursday.

Bye until tomorrow,

Nigel

Nigel, There was Brandy too!

Good job I'm already on heart pills!

I forgive you though.

But, Your address is still visible above!

If you scratchbuild a Tardis you could keep this thread going indefinitely!

I remembered a Dr Who series from my youth where the Daleks were seen

fighting large round robots? What were they?

That's it. I remembered the thin 'sticks' they were

using to grapple with the Daleks. Not too impressive,

Even as an impressionable youth. Thank you.

I seem to remember toy ones being on sale in Woolies,

along with Daleks. Oh, And Dalek Rolykins?

Sorry, Nigel. Back to you.

Thanks Pete.

Dalek Diary - Day 46

Interim build update.

The middle section of the neck is narrower than the others so I measured at a few points on the template and did a freehand, dot to dot curve:

P1020254_zpsb0fa94ba.jpg

Here you can see the different lengths for bottom, middle and top:

P1020255_zps3fd2161a.jpg

After another application of sticky spray the mesh was marked out, not too much waste at the bottom as you can see:

P1020256_zps9d5fd596.jpg

The off-cuts need to be put in the modelling materials storage facility but I am not sure how:

P1020257_zps5ca7468e.jpg

In the end I used their shipping container:

P1020258_zps61643389.jpg

I glued on the mesh using a Mk 2 finger protector:

P1020259_zpsacbe619c.jpg

I then finished drilling out for and glued in the first neck bars:

P1020260_zpse63b3042.jpg

The middle ring is tricky. I had wanted to re-center one of the holes but files would not reach it, in the end I used my motor tool at a very odd angle. In the process I caught the ring which will need some filler later.

Here is a side view:

P1020262_zpsaa35291a.jpg

Here is the new long drill in action on the second bars, I am praying throughout all of this that it does not break:

P1020263_zps8f68d539.jpg

Here are the trio of all the three holes, I could not get them any closer together without the drill wanting to veer into the adjacent one:

P1020264_zps8ac439d3.jpg

Using a combination of will power and finger pressure on the tip I could get the drill the go where I wanted it. Here I think you can just see that the drill has a bent contour, just tweeking the bar alignment:

P1020265_zpsbd499155.jpg

Here all the holes have been drilled. A couple did coalesce, like here:

P1020266_zps30cb8f9b.jpg

Next I will be fitting the remaining bars.

Bye for now,

Nigel

<Engage pedant mode>

Mechonoids

<Disengage pedant mode>

:smartass:

Sometimes I call them "The Mekons". I really like "Teeth", I think it's their best single. Always impressed they could play their instruments with those weedy little curvy arms.

Here is the final part of today's Dalek update.

I had a bit if a clean up using this toy brush thoughtfully supplied by my landlord:

P1020267_zpsd74cbe45.jpg

Here are all the trefoil bars installed:

P1020268_zps030622d6.jpg

Jorgen was right, they do look much sharper than the moulded kit originals and at least these line up.

I then did a fit check with the dome:

P1020269_zpsb83e364a.jpg

As you can see the plastic by the eye socket is still moving around. I wonder if the solvents in the paint have reactivated it?

The last job of the day was tidy up the bars with some filler (white Milliput):

P1020270_zpsdf4df4b9.jpg

I have filled all of these except for the one at 12 O'clock.

I now have to go off and make some more picnic dishes.

Bye for now,

Nigel

Here are my remaining picnic recipes.

The first is smoked salmon crepe spirals. So to start I had to make the pancakes:

P1020271_zps49c93c32.jpg

Five off with a small spare one with lemon juice and golden syrup to keep the chef alive a bit longer. I then trimmed them up and added a blended mixture of smoked salmon, cream cheese, lemon juice, chives, freshly ground black pepper and sea salt:

P1020272_zps2a430f4f.jpg

Slices of smoked salmon were applied and then rolled up:

P1020273_zps79c9116a.jpg

My next recipe was a drink; cloudy lemonade. Made simply by blending four unwaxed lemons with caster sugar and some sparkling water:

P1020274_zps8b20638f.jpg

Passing this through a fine sive:

P1020275_zpsa7b7eeba.jpg

To arrive at a concentrate that will be added to more sparkling water tomorrow:

P1020276_zps697c75de.jpg

This is slightly adapted recipe from Nigella's "Forever Summer" - I got that wrong, its from "Nigella Express". I am a big Nigella fan for a number of reasons:

P1020277_zps3b77743f.jpg

I decanted it in to a spare bottle for transportation:

P1020278_zps38ac9f16.jpg

I then started on my final recipe, a sweet one of peanut butter and choc chip cookies:

P1020279_zps823e25b7.jpg

The recipe is from this book dedicated to picnic recipes. I have cooked it before but although the ingredients list mentions choc chips, the method is silent on the matter so I never rated it properly, this time I will:

P1020280_zpsc3cc9a1e.jpg

After an hour or so, the salmon spirals had firmed up enough to trim the ends, more perks for the chef:

P1020281_zps691ac692.jpg

I will finsh cutting to shape at work tomorrow but I have produced one example to show you how they will look (bottom RH corner).

I cooked serveral batches of the cookies, here are some of them cooling:

P1020282_zpsd5469390.jpg

Now I have to go and tidy up the kitchen.

Bye,

Nigel

Now that's what I call progress. It was definitely worth the effort

Thanks hendie, an effort yes but I did enjoy it. I was not sure it would work out but I think it has. Still a lot more to do though and my deadline is looming.
