  1. Take a look at this gem well worth the watch...one day the big liz and big taffy will be like this👍😆😬🤔 https://youtu.be/e6ZFTawb73I
  2. Next on the building mat, a 1/350 Astuste Class Submarine using the HobbyBoss kit. The Astute Class is the current class of 'Hunter-killer' of the RN, replacing the older Trafalgar Class. Box art Hull halves. The upper hull comes complete the fin and aft planes fitted. Traditionally the fin would have been 2 parts and the after planes 4. Sprue shot that looks like parts for the top of the fin, masts, rudder, propulsion and foreplanes. Some photo-etch. Some 'blurb', instructions and painting call-out. Looks like a simple build but I've never built a HobbyBoss kit, so that might come back to bite me on the 'arras'. Stuart
  3. Was there a standard size for the serial number and 'ROYAL NAVY' legend in WW2? If so, what was the standard size? I'm mostly interested in the 1940/1942 period, but I have found very little on the topic and I would be rather interested in getting a general understanding. Juanita
  4. I have HMS Kelly in the stash and I might just be tempted to join the GB. I have lots of goodies to add too.......
  5. We have the latest products from Infini Model from South Korea arriving tomorrow, plus restock of the hugely popular cutting mats and lycra rigging line The new additions are: Imperial Japanese Navy, United States Navy and Royal Navy inclined ladder sets, all in 1/350 scale: US Navy radars (including turned brass parts) in 1/350 IJN Type 96 anti-aircraft guns in single, double and triple mounts (including turned brass barrels) and various ammunition boxes in 1/350 And last but not least, the full range of lycra rigging lines in white to compliment the black which we already carry.
  6. Has anybody any other pictures of this seaking? or know anything about it? a great whatif don't you think. Rodders
  7. At long last I have a 'new' desk which although smaller and lacking drawers/cupboards will at least allow a restart after a too-long break. And what dropped through my letterbox this morning but another early suprise...(although mine is rather more crumpled in appearance) The (not so) mighty Mechanical Horse aka Scammell Scarab which using the kit options would build up to this: I see there is a walkaround (yay!) but only one build thread (aww) so it will fit in nicely as being different to the normal 99.9% of kits seen. Now I just need to get bits and pieces sorted in to place before deciding on RAF, RN or civilian scheme (and another excuse to get to Antics searching the paint stands...whilst ignoring the 'wall of plastic' of course:)) One question/request... Google (and Bing) bring up a few pix of models or museum vehicles in military dress but nothing of real vehicles in action. Whilst I'm still umming and erring on my Dinah build I thought it might look good sat next a 50s or 60s Hunter or Gannet or...
  8. Akan Paint Set for Coastal Craft Coastal Craft To accompany their book on Vosper MTBs/MGBs Coastal Craft reviewed [url=http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234980720-coastal-craft-history-volume-1/HERE, in company with Akan paints have released as set of paints that match those in the book. The six paint set includes:- APC 507A Dark Grey (1920) APC 507B Grey (1920, renamed 507A in 1940) APC 507 C Light Grey (1920) B-15 Grey-Blue G-45 Grey RN White Now, having used Akan paints before they are a very good colour match to the originals. They are a great alternative to the enamel paints on the market which will please those modellers who work in less than ideal environments for enamel thinners etc. I’ve found that Akan paints do need a good quality thinners to get them to flow well through an airbrush, but for those who brush paint, they are very easy to work with straight out of the pot. Conclusion It’s not always easy finding the right paints that not only give the correct tone, but are in the format you may want to use. This set is just the job for that, as it gives you six of the most widely used colours and in conjunction with the book you can get the exact scheme you want in one purchase. Very highly recommended. 9. I'm looking for some assistance in identifying these two Whirlwinds. The pictures are from some 8mm footage my father took on board the carrier HMAS Melbourne II in the UK shortly after her commissioning late in 1955. Neither appear to have the drooping tail so I'm presuming they may be HAR.1 or HAR.3. I've also read that a Whirlwind was the first aircraft to land on the Melbourne and I'm wondering if the top photo is the actual bird as that would have been quite an occasion and worthy of my father picking up his camera. The second one is from later in the reel.
  10. Latest releases into the Oldmodels Decals Digital range are: RNZN Westland Wasp 1/48 and 1/72 in four schemes: 1960s delivery scheme (the RN scheme with NZ flight numbers and ships crests) 1970s-1990s scheme Last scheme “Orange Sprat” scheme (used for Bougainville peace talks) Available through my website www.oldmodelsdecals.com and TradeMe (for NZ customers only) John Oldmodels Decals
  11. Just came across this which might also be useful to others: http://www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk/0_Contents.html credits to the authors for all the effort here!
  12. http://www.panoramio.com/user/7396952?comment_page=1&photo_page=1 9 Pages of RAN, RAAF, RAF, RN, RMAF. Something for everyone. I found the link on hyperscale.com. Enjoy Pete
  13. I am looking for decals for the aircraft on my Airfix Illustrious. Are there any aftermarket sheets around? I am looking for current era stuff, not 90's turn of the millennium stuff.
