  1. Cockpit is interesting - the current one is painted Dark Admiralty Grey, but shows signs of wear to black. Contemporary photos of the all metal ones indicate it was black.
  2. Mine arrived yesterday from Jadlam. It’s lovely. Only comments are (a) no camera pod for the fin tip (easy add and optional) and (b) the orange (dayglo) markings for WG774 are given as yellow.
  3. Is that the large one (along with 2 smaller ones) on each side of the tail pylon that look like someone has riveted on sections of armoured plate?
  4. I blame the RN painting those T4N noses black.....
  5. One difference between the early RAF Chinooks and later delivered ones (in fact all operators) is the junction between the sponson and the fuselage. On earlier ones (HC1, HC2) there it’s a curved profile. On later new deliveries (HC2A onwards) Boeing changed the structure and removed the fairing apart from the forward and aft proportions, meaning the middle section was a right angle and giving a rather different look. Also means it’s hard to model a later aircraft from current kits without a fair bit of cutting and filing*. However, this wasn’t changed on the rebuilds (or at least not in most - never say never!) so there’s scope to do an HC2/4. Having said all that, looking at the test shots posted above, it looks like Airfix have missed the fairing , but I’ll wait until I get the kits (As well as RAF ones, I want to do Argentine ones as well) *Edit as my mind is saying the Trumpeter D kits might have had the revised sponsons
  6. Some photos of 5507 here. Definitely red, but the above 3/4 shot in particular seems to suggest a yellow outline on the starboard side. Overpainted? https://postimg.cc/gallery/YQyY7R0
  7. Now to hunt for some impressed Moth Minors - they existed, but not sure I've ever seen a photo of one
  8. Are they not the same kit (based on the 707 -120) with different fuselages (for the windows)
  9. The ancient Boeing 707 makes a reappearance in AWACs guise again Good to see the 1/144th Atlas back, although I wonder how expensive it will be in the 'special markings' with an extra Tornado (Still waiting on an RAF version)
  10. @72modeler Mike - thanks for the info and the link - the kit has the u/c doors for the A model, so that's another plus. There also seems to be a difference in the ailerons (at least the A kit has replacement parts) but I'll either work out what and amend them, or just ignore it! (For such a big aircraft it has tint ailerons!)
  11. I have a Hobbyboss 1/72 P-61B kit, but want to build a P-61A (My chosen subject has the gun turret, which isn't in the A kit, hence getting the B). I know the nose on the B was longer, but was the radome the same shape (i.e. can I get away with taking a scale 8 inches off the back of the nose?) Thoughts welcome!
  12. I thought it had been determined that the C in IC stood for catapult?
  13. Same purpose as the silver dope, to protect the fabric from UV.
  14. Looks nice. Still can't believe they got away with G-ZAHS (pronounce it as a word). be interesting to see the price.
  15. The use of Duck egg blue as a colloquialism that has caused confusion for years. For many, 'duck egg blue' would actually mean a greenish shade, as mallard eggs tend to be that colour. But duck eggs can be a variety of shades, even within the same species!
  16. Which also led to some commentators incorrectly identifying them from photos as having 'B' wings as only one cannon was visible. A more careful examination showed the parallel sides at the rear of the later cannon fairings.
  17. I'm guessing RAFM from the presence of the large window in the nose side, the position of the upper gun turret guns and the position of the props (Duxford's props are the other way up)
  18. Interesting they've followed the Academy/Minicraft way of splitting the nose at the rear of the cockpit canopy. . I seem to recall there were differences between the rear fuselages from the different production plants (window placement etc) - must look that up
  19. MH434's cannons appear to be fitted on the inner positions, and it appears to have the hatch panels for the outer machine guns, which I think were removed on the e wing (but I may be wrong!)
  20. Was that on the kit box? Don't recall seeing anything like that before, and seems strange to give away commercial information like that
  21. From memory, it was the mk VII that was sold cheap in the Works (and on Amazon) - at least my four were! Selling stock cheap isn't always down to being unable to shift it - obtaining cash liquidity can sometime be the intention, so you take a hit on profits to get some cash in the bank. (And accountants hate stock sitting on shelves)
