  1. So, I shouldn't have removed the original bulges for the cannon breeches? I was under the assumption that late Mk IX had the "narrow" bulges, like what you found on Mk XVIs (I know that the cannon positions were switched, I'm just talking about the shape of bulge) Removing the headrest would be a problem, since the model is already assembled and I don't remember what color I used for the cockpit. What does the IFF aerial look like, exactly? Like a radio mast only smaller?
  2. I'm in the process of remaking a Spitfire IX in 1/32 scale, I originally used the Hasegawa Mk VI kit with a aftermarket Mk IX nose and pointed, broadchord rudder and radiators, it was sort of a quick and dirty conversion that I did, besides the nose and rudder the only things I did was to remove the Mk VI cannon breech bulges and reshaped the wingtips to Mk IX style tips. Now that the paint has been stripped off I have some questions about the wing. Do I need to fill in the retractable landing lights on the underside of the wing? The arrowhead shaped exhaust fairings out towards the wingtips, do they need to be removed? There are small semi-retangular openings right behind the wheel wells, are they correct for the Mk IX or do they need to be filled in? Are the wheel well bulges on top of the wing alright or are they larger? I know the five spoke wheels aren't correct for a Mk IX, I may just make a disc to cover them, unless there is something aftermarket. Lastly were there only so many squadrons that had the late Mk IX? Is there anything that I'm leaving out?
  3. Looking good, so far. I don't see a problem with brush painting WW 2 RAF aircraft, at least 1/48th scale and smaller, since I'm one of those people who believes in the "hard edge" camo scheme.
  4. A very pretty build! The Airacobra has always been a favorite of mine.
  5. Talk about a bravery test, put some Micro-Sol on a decal and watch it wrinkle up. You're just sure that the decal is absolutely ruined! But when you come back and look again after awhile, voila! It's smooth again. Modeling magic at one of it's finest moments. Hey, look! It's my 100th post!
  6. The Micro-Sol should be fine, just give it ample time to fully set before you apply anything over the decals. Your F-16 is looking really good!
  7. You are correct about the colors. If I may be allowed to blow my own horn. http://www.britmodeler.com/forums/index.ph...mp;#entry114479 Don't know why the yellow came out looking so bright in the pictures, it isn't that bright when you're looking at the models.
  8. I built the Volks resin 1/48 scale He-100D a few years ago, all I needed to do was to add some aftermarket PE seat belts and shoulder harnesses. I read somewhere once that the He-100s were used for defense of the Heinkel plant, flown by Heinkel factory pilots. I wonder if any of them made it to the end of the war and how they were painted for their factory defense duty?
  9. It's France's revenge for losing to you at Agincourt.
  10. That's a great looking Spitfire!
  11. By heck, you got me with that one. At least nothing had to be replaced with aftermarket items on that Wyvern.
  12. It was just the normal Merlin kit. I'm not adverse to building kits that need a little more work than a typical mass produced kit, I recently built the Classic Airframes Wyvern and I just posted a couple of pictures of the Pegasus Spiteful that was finished a couple of days ago, however that Merlin kit is a really crude effort, with a difficult method of assembly and I just decided that it wasn't going to be worth the large amount of work that would be needed to get the thing assembled. Maybe the nose of the Merlin kit could be cut off and grafted onto the Heller kit and then reshape the fins with sheetstock and filler? If Aeroclub did one I think I'd rather work with it, though I'd have to see one first before I passed final judgement.
  13. That is a great looking job! I really need to build a grey and green paint scheme RAF Phantom soon to add to the stable. She's a beaut!
  14. I really like that! I have a couple of Mistral kits that I've been wondering what to do with and I was following your WIP thread. I have a white metal nose gear and ejection seat from a Merlin T.11 kit that I decided was unbuildable, if I'm lucky the addition of those parts along with stuffing the nose with ballast will keep it from tailsitting.
  15. You are not in trouble, miss, as a matter of fact I took your post to mean that you thought I was disappointed in the kit and how it came out. I'm not, actually, it gave me less aggravation than the Classic Airframes Wyvern I recently finished (what kit wouldn't?). The thing of it is, it's well.., it's 1/72 scale, with the exception of my KANG F-16 I have nothing in that scale, I tend to build in 1/48 mostly, with the occasional foray into 1/32 scaleland, so this little Spiteful won't really fit in on the shelf with what else I have already built. I like the Spiteful, in an odd way, I'd like that resin 1/48 scale kit that was being shown here at BM, however cost may stop me from getting one, I'll probably just soldier on and build the Falcon vacuform kit that I have. *sigh* Any road, hugs all around, and thank you for the compliments. 16. Well, what I meant was that the actual Spiteful was a disappointment, the laminar airflow wing was a much better concept in the windtunnel than it was in real life. Although once a Spiteful did reach a speed of 494 MPH the Spiteful wasn't very much faster than a late Mark Spitfire, especially in a dive, as it turned out the Spitfire Mark 22 had a limiting dive speed of 500 MPH, faster than what the designers of the wing initially thought capable. Annnyway... for a Pegasus kit it went together suprising well, much better than the last Pegasus kit (the EAP Prototype) that I tried years ago. It is a typical kit of it's type, from the time it was made, if you're looking for Hasegawa style fitting of parts this kit won't be where you'll find it, there is a fair amount of cleaning up and tweaking of mating surfaces to be done, as well as some putty involved although I was pleasantly surprised at how little putty it needed in the end. Oh, one more thing about the decals, whomever made them for Pegasus made them with the red of the roundels translucent, I had to back with a brush and some red paint and fill them in. If you wnated a Spiteful in 1/72 scale at the time, though, this kit was it.
  17. You get disappointment, apparently. The Spiteful did not turn out to be what the designers hoped. This is the Pegasus 1/72 Spiteful F.14. Sitting on the single page of instructions. The radiators and carburetor scoop were molded as solid chunks of plastic, so I drilled out the carb scoop and rebuilt the radiators with sheet stock. Although for some reason they look as though I just painted the fronts of them black in this photo. The decals were really bad, in spite of me coating them with liquid decal film only the fuselage roundels and the serial numbers stayed in one piece, as a matter of fact I had to scrounge up replacement finflashes and roundels for the underside of the wing from other sources. The canopy is very thick, however it turned out to clear enough that you could tell that there was no cockpit, so I had to make an intsrument panel/forward bulkhead and rear bulkhead out of sheet stock and insert them, after I had already assembled the fuselage halves. Sort of felt as though I was doing a ship in a bottle. Besides, there was nothing to attach the seat that Pegasus had supplied to. But, all's well that ends well, I suppose. Not sure what I'm going to do with the little monster, now that it's done, I don't normally build in 1/72 scale, mebbe I go find someone to donate it to.
  18. I'm another one who likes the grey finish, my Airfix F.6 will be done up in grey. When I finally get around to building it, that is. That F.3 came out really nice!
  19. The Tu-22 always had a 1950s Sci-Fi rocket ship look to me. I'll be interested to see how this turns out, it's looking good so far.
  20. I always thought that the Cheyenne was an interesting concept, I'm surprised that Aurora was the only manufacturer to offer a kit. Uh, until now, that is.
  21. Very nicely done! May I ask what the story is behind the yellow markings?
  22. WOW, that is simply stunning! I thought I was looking at the genuine article, when I first opened your thread. Very, very nice work.
  23. Well, first off, welcome to the forum. I'll leave it to the other members to welcome you in their own particular...Idiom, Sire? Idiom, that's it! I think that you could simply remake the bomb bay into the earlier type and you should be fine, I have a Three Guys Replicas decal sheet and that's the only thing that they mention. 'Course they could be all wet, I suppose.
  24. Just wait until the flame job and hot pink fuselage stripe and accents have been added.
