  1. Andrew - it is always a pleasure to pop across from boats to witness your skills. This build has been tremendous Rob
  2. For a "first foray" that is extremely accomplished. Very crisp modelling, You obviously weren't tempted to do her in her Mountbatten Pink guise. Rob
  3. That is a really nice rendition of the Hood, great rigging and detail. You really nailed that Rob
  4. Nice job Vlad - the County Class have a certain grace and charm Rob
  5. Bonkers size and I agree with all of the above comments, especially the Steam Punk vibe. As David said.....Magnificent Rob
  6. Great result Beefy - that looks tremendous Rob
  7. Nice work on the Pom Pom bandstand and weapon Jeff. That glass looks interesting. The problem with PVA is that it will dry matte. Liquitex Gloss medium would dry very glossy and probably be more effective. It will act as glue. As to the earlier conversation about water-lining the hull - FWIW I agree with the brethren.....risky. I use Styrofoam bases - check out my threads - it's cheap and relatively easy to sculpt a sea surface etc and cut a hole to "plant" the hull in. Rob
  8. Jon - just caught up with this - that Camo is magnificent and I really like the wood deck on the bridge. Turning out to be a real Beaut Rob
  9. Thrice Wow! Sounds great Steve. That will keep you out of mischief for a bit I have most of the reference books and photos from HMCS Sackville that I visited last year.........shout if you need anything. Mrs D must be very understanding to have that (eventually) on the mantelpiece! Rob
  10. Looks a challenge - have you done something naughty? Rob
  11. Matt - it's a tough one. A lot of my knowledge has come from 3D print maufacturers especially Micromaster and Black Cat - both very well researched with their items. Swordfish Models seem to be bringing up the rear. Check out the sites. A lot of their original sources come from John Lambert - a celebrated Naval historian and illustrator and who has provided drawings for a LOT of kit of all varieties though they tend to be for the smaller classes from Destroyers down: https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/British-Naval-Weapons-of-World-War-Two-Hardback/p/15743 https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/British-Naval-Weapons-of-World-War-Two-Hardback/p/16412 https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/British-Naval-Weapons-of-World-War-Two-Hardback/p/17904 Despite the titles all mentioning weapons there are detailed "architectural"scale drawings of all sorts of other kit. The Shipcraft titiles give good overall coverage with a slant towards modelling but I dont think you'll find many scale drawings there. Seaforth do volumes of "Original builder's plans" that might be helpful though I don't believe POW features All of the above titles are published through parent Company "Pen and Sword". The Anatomy of the ship series are likely to be helpful - you have them. If you are really stuck - it's worth checking out the collections at the National Maritime Museum. A lot of their stuff is not digitalised, so if you need it - it will cost you - they quoted me £70 recently for some Castle Class plans. And finally 2 of our research Gurus may be able to come up with something if you've tried all other avenues..... @foeth and his website "On the Slipway" who is doing an depth long term build on HMS Hood @Steve D who has been researching arcane ships for a very long time HTH Rob
  12. At the risk of being impudent - from my Admiralty "Manual of Seamanship 1951" In reality - Sorry No idea. Rob
  13. It's called a Griping spar and the bulbous things are called "Puddings". She has very elegant lines Rob
  14. Hi Jon - These were Atlantic Models decals that haven't always sat well in the past. Accordingly I trim them with a scalpel very close to the letter/Number edges and ensure that there is a very generous smooth surface that has been sprayed with Klear at least 3 times. Interestingly with Klear - it doesn't shine as ordinary gloss varnish would. If the decal doesn't look like it's going to sit, I then use "Mr Mark Softener". I love decals - for me it's when the model comes to life but it can be fraught and as you know I'm equally happy using masks. On this occasion all sat well and BTW the Sovereign Depth decals sat particularly well considering that each line was applied separately. Once they are on and dried I give them another light spray over with Klear. HTH - Rob Hi Beefy - These are Blue line decals from Hannats Xtradecal range - the only really effective way to portray the lining appparent on the funnel. I note Peter has released his "window" decals that I'll get at some stage - especially as they have modern depth markings. However I still prefer old 35mm negative "Black" pieces to "window" with as they give off a realistic "glass" window gloss, certainly for modern subjects. I've windowed the last couple of corvettes with Mig Ammo - "Crystal - using Black/Clear 50 : 50 diluted with some "Transpirator". HTH Rob
  15. Big day at the bench today Mignonette had very prominent Bow Draught markings so it was a chance to use @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies's draught decals... Because of the angle the bow sweeps up it was necessary to cut each and every line and decal each separately Good end result though I like that everything bar rigging is supplied in kits, though interestingly I note that Mike McCabe's new Grimsby sloop does come with Uschi rigging thread - we're getting spoilt. Here's the Master Models mast sprayed up with crows nest and steaming Nav light attached More soon Thanks for looking Rob
  16. That is an outstanding turnout - one to be really proud of - super detail and I think the base really augments the whole Looking forwards to the next Rob
  17. Beefy said it for me too! Great looking build Good to have you back Dan Rob
  18. It is messy isn't it. Looking good though - like the wood surround Rob
  19. Nice work Jeff - those Bulwark stays make a huge difference. it's coming together really nicely. My Admiralty "Manual of Seamanship - 1951" refers to the aft deck as the Quarter deck, so on the Flower Class everything aft of the aft superstructure, where the Depth charge rails sit. I've never heard "Fantail" used in Royal navy speak (though I don't have any form of martime background). Rob
  20. Thanks Jon - like you - order sent! These retired young whippersnappers with more time on their hands......................... On a serious note - it's surprising how many eyelets you go through per build, 8 for the funnel on a Corvette and at least another 4 for the mast stays, your supply soon depletes. @Bobs_Buckles Great to have you back and you get my nomination for an award for "Services to Modelling". Rob
