  1. It really does look the part - an excellent representation, well done!
  2. Agree with that, excellent paintwork and a good looking ship, I've been fascinated by this ship since seeing it in a Blue Peter Annual in the 60's (or 70's)
  3. Had a search but couldn't find the turret code for Sydney, my guess would be SD. Surprisingly few aerial photos of her.
  4. Lovely neat work, those rudder PE bands, any idea what they're for?
  5. Makes me want to build it all over again *hides old Matchbox version he built in 80's*
  6. Very nice piece of work there, lovely diorama too, plenty of interest
  7. Another one I need to see.... and the hardware next to it. Slight pity they enclosed it in a wet dock from a photo point of view, but I suppose this helps with the preservation
  8. I thought the war in the Pacific was over. I would put it down to realistic battle damage, looks repairable, and thankfully Sydney is intact. You may wish to remove all musical instruments from the dockyard premises
  9. Lovely modelling, and an interesting comparison, hadn't really considered the relative sizes. I hope to get on board the Mikasa this year for a long overdue visit, will be interesting to see how big it 'feels'
  10. Not very sure... for tethering boats or hanging something? They are a bit like the big anchor posts forward. They are very big and heavy, and I'd wonder about the anchoring points for the beams, especially the aft ones A quick search on Google images does show the side ones on the ship at Portsmouth This model suggests they are all boat davits:- http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&biw=1600&bih=805&tbm=isch&tbnid=LWBh7QS2ZxcuLM:&imgrefurl=http://www.naintrading.co.uk/model-ships/hms-victory-p-478.html&docid=gI_L-yfL9aKYHM&imgurl=http://www.naintrading.com/data/ships/0HMS%252520Victory%252520Close%252520Sail%252520L60%252520-%25252001.jpg&w=1280&h=1074&ei=r2WNUbj8EfCb1AXH_YDYCQ&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:93,s:0,i:448&iact=rc&dur=322&page=4&tbnh=169&tbnw=198&start=85&ndsp=32&tx=151&ty=107 This view does show them http://farm1.staticflickr.com/2/2056216_f7f20b4fcc.jpg
  11. Following this with great interest, having built the original Matchbox version more moons ago than I care to remember. I had plans for radio control that never quite worked. Going to be a beauty when you finish. Incidentally the windows, and the hatches in which they are set in, which are openable for ventilation and a bit of light (and maintenance), are the skylights.
  12. The drastic surgery did the job.... you'd never have been happy with that huge bend in the stern.... photos tell me she's now looking much more acceptable!
  13. ....and my reserve choice - a County class Guided Missile Destroyer
  14. Let me see... A standard Ton class minesweeper (with PE and a selection of crew) Leander Class frigate (with choice of weapons fit and decals to cover all 26 of the class, PE and crew) PS Waverley (with PE and people) - also would be nice in a bigger scale with wooden bits ..all to have option of full hull/WL
  15. The Landing Stage by the look of it....Ferries, Passenger Liners etc Does look good!
  16. Yes I do, she really looks the part. The harbour scene is really coming together now, enjoying each step.
  17. Great subject for a model, always think these battlecruisers/aircraft carriers have been a bit neglected. Good luck to you with this one, will watch with interest. Not very clear about the openings from this photo, the forward 2 do look like watertight door openings.... must be a better pic somewhere? Found a line drawing at http://z11.invisionfree.com/shipbucket/ar/t901.htm not sure on accuracy but can see one WT door
  18. I can see a lot of people looking at sprues and thinking 'submariine'. Costs must be very reasonable too, well done!
  19. Definitely looking the part, enjoying watch this diorama coming together
