Master Zen Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I've been noticing that 1/72 Academy WW2 kits are increasingly being hard to find. Most online sites are running out of stocks... Just a coincidence or is something sinister going on?
Paul A H Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 That's odd, my LMS seems to have a fair few in stock. Off the top of my head The last time I went in there they had a Typhoon (which I bought and built here), a Tempest, a Me-163, a Hellcat, a Wildcat, an Avenger, a Corsair, a Hurricane and a few others I'm sure. Most of them are pretty nice kits too, especially considering the fairly modest prices they charge.
rowmk9 Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I've noticed that some of them can be quite hard to get hold of as well. I like the majority of the ones I've built. Occasionally there are a few poorly rendered parts, and the decals are usually terrible, but on the other hand the kits have nice engraved detail and fit really nicely, and the price is very good. The stocks do seem thin on the ground when I check them though.
Master Zen Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Indeed, hence my concern. But check Hanannts, they usually have them well stocked and half of them are out of stock, same with Models For Sale...
Old VG 33 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Hello There are plenty of them here Patrick
Doug Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I can give some insight into this problem, Academy are now imported by Pocketbond, who many smaller companies will not/can not deal with due to there sales & delivery policies, this means that many of the normal model shops can no longer stock Academy kits.
stevehnz Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I recently picked up a couple from HERE including a P51a Mustang which is no longer generally available. They took just a week to get to me in NZ & the price was cheaper than the local guy, though I patronise him when I can, he just couldn't get either of the kits I ordered. Steve.
Mark M Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 try here http://www.vmandm.com/shop.php i have bought from these a few times and they have a cracking service
Hypnobear Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Theres quite a few in Langleys, but I have noticed theyve been going up in price quite a bit, they used to be about £4.50, now theyre £6.50 each. Then again, all kits are going up in price, Hobbyboss's WW2 kits gone up from £3.75 to £5 as well I really like the Academy WW2 kits as they do have some good detail and recessed panel lines. I got most of my Academy kits at a toy fair at Norwich, where this seller was selling 28 kits packed in 7 Academy boxes, most of which were Academy kits, for £40
Master Zen Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 Well, £6.50 isn't so bad... they were £5.99 before. They're definitely worth it IMHO The distributor certainly seems to be the blame. I noticed their website hasn't even been changed from that one-page text page that's been there for probably a year or more. If they don't really care about their website, not sure they'll care about keeping customers happy.
Seahawk Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I've been noticing that 1/72 Academy WW2 kits are increasingly being hard to find. Most online sites are running out of stocks...Just a coincidence or is something sinister going on? Just got the latest Ian Allen Plus (ex Midland Counties) catalogue. They seem to be offering most of the range (1/72, 1/48 and 1/35). Most of the 1/72 WW2 aircraft stuff at £5.99. Helldiver/Stormovik/P-38 at £12.99. No 1/72 P-51A Mustang though.
