Yes, and after which, Goering made them wear a red band round the nose of the aircraft.

The Swastikas usually found on WW2 German aircraft have been painted out on these aircraft. The Swastika is banned in many countries, which is why many model companies don't include it in their decals. Many modellers like to include the Swastika on their models for the sake of historical accuracy - in this case Mental is showing us that it's still possible to build a historically accurate Bf109E without a Swastika on the tail.

I wouldn't put it past Mental to think that the chap on the right of the three leaning against the fuselage is gay coz he's definately mincing it up for the lens. the nose band talked about above may well have been pink too.

You call those Nazis gay? I'll give you gay nazis....

Steven & Rich,

Unless I'm much mistaken, these are aircraft from the 7. Jabostaffel of JG 2, not JG53. You can see the thumb and top hat emblem on the cowlings and the shield with the script R beneath the windscreens.

Cheers

Well- that goes to show one neeeds to use (as opposed to abuse) one's memory sometimes!

So is this another unit not using the Swastica then- I thought it was just (:suicide: ) JG53?

JG 53had the swastika and red band issue. I don't belive they are JG 53 aircraft. More like Photoshop

Do you seriously think this is the case? There is something a little odd about the mottle on that tail in the foreground..

Seems to be a grey box has been added to the tail of the foremost plane maybe the swas was patched so to not offend folk.

Somebody could have done a better job if they really wanted to make stuff up.

Why should that be?

In Summer 1940, one Luftwaffe unit DID remove the swastika from their aircraft. It's a well known fact. I assumed that this was the unit in question- upon looking carefully, it is not. So what is to stop theorising that other units may have done the same?

Because it was well documented with JG 53, and there were a number of possible reasons including the Jewish wife of the unit's Co, IIRC.

All one needs to do is use the clone stamp to get a very nice blocking of the swastika. That's what I'd do.

Steven & Rich,

I've just gone through my JG2 file and have a copy of that self-same photo. The aircraft are definitely from the 7. /JG2 and the swastika's are clearly visible on each aircraft. In the copy posted at the beginning of this thread, someone has used MS Paint or similar programme to cover the swastika's up.

Cheers

Where did you get the photo from?

It was probably just edited so it could be used on a European website.
