This looks cool; do you know how effective they were, or would the speed differential make getting a good shot off very difficult?  Either way, I'll watch the build with interest!

I figure it would be like the door gunner from Full Metal Jacket when asked about his shooting slow moving objects.... "I just don't lead them as much." A 50mm Shell hitting anywhere would cause some serious hurt.

Oh wow! Surely firing the thing would lead to compressor stalls and both engines failing!?

Probably would kill on both ends.

  • 4 weeks later...

And speaking of BFG's....

53602544294_15aac1116a_c.jpg

Starting off with the"business end" The 50MM Magazine/gun assembly. Looks purdy, but this is the only time it will be seen.

53602413158_3f48089dc8_c.jpg

From there the part that WILL be seen the cockpit.

Somewhere along the line I managed to lose one of the P/E frets. of course the one with the seat harness and some of the controls. The harness I found an old ME-262 decal set that had extra belts so I used that, the control leavers and what not I made from scrap plastic rod.

The inside of the cockpit area is actually the underside main gear area. So this got a coat of black then when that was dry  Alclad stainless steel followed by a dark wash.

Along with the underside of the cockpit tub

The wings gear bay als got their  treatment as well.

53602544289_7b0ae687d5_c.jpg

From the outside didn't come out as clear as I would have liked.

Matching everything up,most of the fit is pretty much spot on. there are a few gaps, most notably around the cannon access panel. It was designed I think to be opened rather than closed.

So since this has very delicate panel lines I masked all the adjoining edges to protect them from sanding and applied white filler. Especially the cannon panel on top.

I let these dry for a day or so then I carefully sanded everything down smooth.

Next up pre-shading all the panel lines.

The engine nacelles I'll keep separate until I get the fuselage painted. It will make for less mess trying to paint those while attached to the wings.

53601331522_3c90710580_c.jpg

I let these dry overnight.

I thought it was an error the upper surfaces were a light brown. everything was telling me olive drab which ain't brown, or at least not THAT brown. But it is RLM 80 which it turns out is a browning olive drab. SO that's what I used.

The undersides got a coat of RLM 76 Lichtblau.

At this point I'll let everything dry and then tomorrow add the RLM 81. It's getting there. slow but sure.

I see you're taking a leaf out of the Enzo book up project updates, Loren :cwl: However, it's all looking very good, I'm looking forward to seeing it with the RLM 81 on

Thanks James, I 'm a bit behind getting my pics tidied up and posted. I'm still wading through all the other builds in the queue. Not trying to sand bag:sleep_1: .... much.

Trying to be a little more regular on my updates...

I added the RLM to the wings and gave everything a gloss coat in prep for the decals. But before that I think its time to start work on the "business end of this swallow.

I know the kit parts, though good, could be improved upon. So I got the Master Model 50mm barrel assembly.

53618901935_49c1c1b9f3_c.jpg

It does make for a prominent addition. I would use a quote from a Miss Lily Von Stupp, about this but this a Family site.

Anyways, I wouldn't want to come up against this in real life. So probably

Fühlst du dich glücklich Punk? Na, geht es dir? would be more appropriate. Forgive me Clint Eastwood.

I'll get this painted after getting the decals and the rest on t the end.

After that I added the decals.

I'll let these dry then works a little weathering and finish up with the rest of the little bits like landing gear, antennas, cockpit stuff and so on. Almost done.:yahoo:

THanks. I'm not sure I'd want to be on EITHER side of that thing. It looks like it kills on both ends.

Thanks James. It's in the final stretch as we speak. With a little luck should be in the RFI Axis Gallery by tomorrow.

Letting those dry IDid of a panel wash to try and bring out some of the finer details. From there I gave the whole shootin match a coat of matt varnish and began working on the final small bits.

53621020311_1cd935750f_c.jpg

Canopy Assembly,

53620145717_91fd475c89_c.jpg

Antennas and wire,

53621353849_ca258485b2_c.jpg

Landing gear and lower antennas,

53621468150_204f06859a_c.jpg

Giving the 50mm barrel a coat of hot metal.

Something I also discovered once I put the gear on. this is a tail sitter. I should have added about 5g to the nose, The instructions said not to add weight and I figured the metal barrel would act as a counter-balance Nope. So anyone thinking about building one of these., unless its in a diorama,or opening everything up, I would suggest not adding the nose equipment and sticking 5-6 g of weights.
