The Skin of a Fox - Dora Wings 1/72 Westland Lysander MkIII (SD)

Recommended Posts

I spent this morning trying to think of the best way forward and after a little sanding and reshaping of the connectors this happened.

And I couldn't resist doing this.

There seems to be a slight bow in the struts which I'm assuming is because of the dry fit and there only being masking tape holding the wings in.

Some paint later to check all the seams and if that's good then some colour.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

And there's a Lizzie! Great progress, Alistair, can't wait to see some camo on this :)

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark,

I'm looking forward to getting some more paint on too.

There might not be much progress for a wee while as I'm on for 10 straight shifts at work but I'll do what I can.

Oooooo  lovely,  once the wings are glued on hopefully it will keep the struts from bowing.

Looks great .

Chris

Thanks Chris. I have a cunning plan involving lego and scraping to help keep them as straight as possible while they glue.

Alistair

I'll let that completely dry and then mask off for the fuselage colours.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks very much, Stew.

Now I've got some colour going on it's starting to look a bit better.

I've got plenty of chances to stuff it up though.

Thanks Chris,

Looking good!

BTW, the nose of the fuel tank was apparently not matte, See https://harringtonmuseum.org.uk/tempsford-airfield/ as one example, but other photos are consistent in this regard

I used a satin color for the nose and tail fairings with matte for the central portion. FWIW, I somewhere got the notion the tank was black v. night aircraft bottom surfaces, but I cannot identify the source of that notion.

You have to be quick with this stuff though as it starts to droop quite quickly.

Masking off.

A slight discolouration with Citadel Seraphim Sepia wash on the collector ring.

It's a lot less solid and coloured in person.

I also touched up the bit that required it. So, once that's dry I'll hit the separate pieces with a clear coat and get some transfers on.

My thinking here being that if I get all the bits decaled and then clear coated I'll be able to unmask the canopy without struggling around those delicate struts.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

I must admit the easy life route is the one I'm striving towards. :wicked:

I would point you towards Side Two Track One of The Pistols Debut Album.

The Lizzie was clear coated last night and transfers stuck on this afternoon while the yellow is drying on the Storch.

I've hit them with some softener but as they were already bedding in really well I think that will do it.

Once they've dried a bit.......Stencils.
