Wilks
Have made some solid progress on number three. Need something camo between those two silver ladies. Fuselage together with seats and remaining cockpit items drying ahead of being added and the fuselage being closed up. I weighed the nose weight this time as I had been asked previously and forgotten to do it. There is 30 grams of lead sinkers behind the rear bulkhead which will do the trick on this one. These were flattened with a hammer and super glued in place on top of and around the forward undercarriage bay. The High Planes Models 'EE Canberra Starter and Fan Set A' are being used on this one as it carried the uprated Avon engines. They need a slight trim ahead of fitting and really look the goods. I am also using the High Planes Models 'GAF Canberra Mk20 Wingtip Bombs' set. Looking forward to breaking those out and giving them a whirl. As I was trawling through Hannants recently I noticed paint masks are now available for both the B2 and T4. Also on the way are detail brass etch sets that include undercarriage door detail and flaps. Might give these a go on number four. Cheers, AGW..
Terry1954
Bought one of these at the yeovil show today. It looks a very fine model. Your first two look the biz, so looking forward to seeing this one progress to completion. Cheers Terry

The following link to the T4 I did may be of interest to you. I did see on Hannants website that they are now stocking the canopy masks for these which is a big help. There are also some brass etch coming too. Good luck with yours when you get to it. Cheers, AGW..
Wilks
Canopy and nose applied. i'm careful at this stage not to contaminate the cockpit area with dust from sanding.m I pay particular attention not to sand or shave any plastic until the fuselage is water tight. This area of the kit is where you will spend most of your time. Nothing beyond the average skills required to get a fit, filling and sanding to result in a seamless surface. I've tried two approaches to this and will stick with my first which is using super glue as the filler. It doesn't shrink like regular putty which was a problem on 221 - the 6Sqn example. No major issues closing it up. I used a couple of thin pieces of plastic to fill some gaps I didn't address when fettling. Hard to hold three pieces in place at the same time. Now to let it dry a bit before masking the canopy and beginning the filling and sanding. Cheers, AGW..
Romeo Alpha Yankee
The cockpit looks nicely detailed Tone and a nice fit with the fettled canopy.

Magua87
I'm enjoying these builds. They'll prove very helpful as I hear S&M have announced a PR3 for next year (it's on the wishlist).

Progress continues with the clear part of the fuselage and canopy blended in. Super Glue way my friend here along with a 150 grit sanding stick. A little bit of lighter sanding to be done to and we'll be ready to start on the wings. Cheers, AGW..
Wilks
Have made some solid progress on this one. Wings complete along with some deepening of the vents and the addition of a couple of others to suit this time frame in it's RAAF career. Remaining tidy up done including a couple of coats of undercoat to identify any gap issues. I did have one where the clear part joins the fuselage which required some further sanding and profiling. The after market masks for these make short work of the canopy. Given the geography and elements these operated in I pre-shaded this one and then covered and infilled with an Intermediate Blue base coat followed by a mix of Intermediate Blue and EDSG to simulate the oxidized blueish hue these took on. Unfortunately the camera I use is not much chop and the actual color is much more grey than appears. Hope to get to the green later this week, weekend. Wilks
Back to the paint shop this morning for the second color. An easy scheme to do on a large canvas makes for fairly short work. Lesson learned here [again] is to ensure the scheme you are painting is indeed the scheme you are attempting to create. Resulted in a couple of subtle changes being required. Hoping to add some detail to the gear doors and oleos ahead of masking and painting followed by some Future in readiness for some decals. High Planes Models Bombs to follow those... Wilks
Been Canberra just about all weekend. Weather very conducive to modeling this weekend. Managed to get the undercarriage bays painted and weathered. Spent some time on the gear doors too. Saw a similar treatment on a 48th scale build on this forum and thought I'd try my hand in 72nd scale. Also got a couple of bottles of Flory Models Weathering Wash and spent some time grubbing it up. The lighter color worked well on both the green and the grey/blue without over doing it. Back into the paint shop too for several coats of Future in readiness for decals, not that there were too many on these at that period of their service. Wilks
Couldn't resist the temptation to put some decals on this one. It looked like the Aussie Decal sheet I had was going to provide the right size and shape lightening bolt for this one albeit with a minor trim up of a few mm off the bottom. No such luck! The printing is off with two different colors of red on the decal once it comes off the backing sheet. My solution was using the always good quality decals that come with High Planes Models kits. Using some sharp scissors I cut their rendition of the red lightening bolt to suit the size and shape of the references photos I have. Not a bad result. Looking forward to adding the remaining decals this week in readiness for a trip back to the paint shop on the weekend and some bombs... Cheers, AGW.. Rabbit Leader
Antoney, Your third S & M Canberra is really coming up beautifully. Looking forward to seeing it finished and displayed with your first two. Can I ask what scheme you plan on doing for No.4? Cheers.. Dave.

Bombs are out of their packaging so not long now. Number four would likely carry a yellow lightening flash to round out the fins on the other three. Not sure when I'll get this underway as my Porter and trio of Hornets are feeling rather neglected at the minute. Still might be a project for this year although I am running out of cabinet space. Rabbit Leader
Nice to see the AGW production line in full swing. A No. 1 Squadron Canberra would look a treat and add yet another different scheme to your bulging cabinet. Cheers.. Dave.
Wilks
Decals done along with another good coat of Future ahead of some Testors Dullcote to flatten it out. My first time using it and I like it. Masks off and undercarriage added along with the gear doors and it is starting to look like a bought one. Added the High Planes Models bomb racks which look the goods. They come with one of the two braces. the second was easy to fashion out of some plastic stock. Bombs have been assembled and are being tidied up ahead of painting. Once their on the finish line is in sight which includes some aerials and a few other items. Managed to put it with the other two for a group shot... Cheers, AGW..
Rabbit Leader
These are amongst three of the best 1:72 scale Canberras to ever grave this forum and the best form of advertising to promote this S&M / Mikro Mir kit. It is a good one and I hope S&M / Mikro Mir sell a heap and are able to reinvest in something else that closes gaps in our respective collections. Cheers, AGW.. Wilks
Managed to move this one across the finish line this afternoon. The High Planes Models bombs and bomb racks are very nice and well worth the investment in my humble opinion. Painting and some Flory Models Weathering Washes and they were done. Additional braces and tubing for the racks were made with Evergreen strips and rod. Aerials and lights were done using the same plastic strips and rod. I enjoyed this kit as much as my other two S&M Models Canberra's. Time to ponder the next one. Cheers, AGW..
Geoff Arnold
Hi Wilks Great work on your Canberra's I have the S&M models and the AMP T11 did you have and problems with the butt fitting of all of the major parts it seems to me that a knock on and of the joint (or even knocking them off the shelf when dusting) could be costly did you reinforce the the joints in any way or are the joints ok by just gluing them together Geoff Arnold

I had no problems with the butt joints. I addressed fuselage with plastic table that were glued into place on one half ahead of joining the two halves together. This ensured a good purchase using extra thin cement. I filled all the joins with Zap-A-Gap so extra strength built in there. For the wings I used extra thin cement followed by plastic card for any remaining gaps. This was adhered with a further amount of extra thin cement and then trimmed when dried to match the contour of the upper and lower surfaces. The wing join gaps were then filled with super glue. For the horizontal stabilizers this was all extra thin cement. A few helpings to ensure they welded together and the join was solid. The following may assist: I did drop the second model once it was in undercoat/primer. Solid as a rock. Given the 30 odd grams of nose weight I was more worried about denting the wooden floor... :-)! Trust this helps with your build. Happy to answer any other questions you have on these based on my humble experience. Cheers, AGW..
