  1. About 6 minutes (from 20:51) documentary filming of the Be-6: Other (from 29:09 to 32:50) documentary filming of the Be-6: Drone filming memorial Be-6 in Safonovo: B.R. Serge
  2. Pete, this is interesting to you, provided that most of the information you have in the West is simply not available, because it is simply not translated into English. In turn, what is described in Russian represents only part of the iceberg, but not because it is secret, no, there are just very few researchers who can work in the archives, and in turn, among these researchers, an even smaller part is capable of making up the whole picture. Of course, there will be a general digitalization of archives and their appearance in free access to the Internet, I think there will be a lot of interesting interpretations of the events of those years, but when this will happen is not known. In fact, we do not even have newsreels from the aviation parades of the Stalin era in public access, descriptions only. And there is something to see! For example, on La-150, 152, 156 or Yak-19, etc. Seriously though, this is not the best choice for both the MiG-21F-13 and the Su-9. I didn't have an Airfix, but the Su-9 from Unda (also known as Cooperativa) is still lying around, it's worse than the Su-9 A-model, despite the fact that the Su-9 A-model is also not a very good model. B.R. Serge
  3. Why "dark green and light blue"? Those models that were made on Russian forums: - Trumperer: http://scalemodels.ru/articles/13578-Trumpeter-1-72-be-6.html http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_79838.html - Plasticard: http://scalemodels.ru/articles/10150-Plasticart-1-72-be-6---skripach-ne-nuzhen.html http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_65288.html were painted in a gray top! The only color photo Be-6 exploitation period speaks of gray: http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/sea/be6/be6-7.jpg But modern restoration in the kiev museum gives rather a gray-green color: http://www.dogswar.ru/images/stories/samolet/Beriev-Be-6-3.jpg Other Soviet live Be-6 here: https://avp23649.livejournal.com/212900.html but his condition is very sad. In fact, the question of Be-6 coloration is very little studied. The problem is that the Navy had its own requirements and standards for painting. Therefore, the aircraft of the fleet could be painted according to the standards of the Navy in colors different from the colors used in the Air Force. Standard colour for Navy was mysterious шаровый- sharovyi colour, main discussion which is here (with "special guest star" 😁 - Alexander Akanikhin aka AKAN): http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_55915.html In this discussion, I am referring to "Rules for painting ships, auxiliary vessels and basic floating equipment of the USSR Navy (Military publishing house of the USSR Ministry of Defense, 1965) ": This book have Table N1 colors of paints and enamel for painting of external surfaces of ships of the USSR Navy "Sharovaja" enamel was four paint chip N 29; N 33; N 32; N 31: And Table N3 "Recommended for choosing coloring paints and enamel, used for painting of external surfaces of ships of the USSR Navy: In the first column of the table swimming areas are indicated from top to bottom: - Black Sea - Japan Sea (South part Sea); - Japan Sea (Northern part Sea); - Sea of Okhotsk; - Baltic Sea (South part Sea); - Baltic Sea (Northern part Sea); - Barents Sea. Next "Recommended colour" which is divided into "for superstructures" "for hulls" "for submarines". as you can see, everything is very complicated here. Probably, if a Sharoviy color was used for aircraft, then there were two varieties of it - for southern latitudes and for northern latitudes, as it was later with the Yak-38, which had two shades of blue. But there is also a possibility that the fleet used a specially developed aviation enamel AMT-10 for flying boats. A sample of the AMT-10 color can be seen in the photo of the remnants of the Be-4 posted on the last page of the discussion of the Sharoviy color at the link that I posted above. B.R. Serge P.S. Why is the mysterious sharoviy color? The origin of the word "Sharoviy" is not clear, i.e. everyone knows that it is gray, most likely how to explain here: https://ru.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/шаровый "The spread of this word speaks in favor of early borrowing from Türkic; Wed Chuv sărlа "to paint", sără "paint"" And most interesting in wiktionary article this: " List of translations English: flint gray; iron gray; ocean gray"
  4. In fairness, there was a choice between E-2A and E-5, late upgrade to E-6 whom everyone knows as MiG-21. MiG-21F-13 Revell or Modelsvit? Su-9 A-model or UNDA? This is history, history is always interesting. Moreover, the history of the development of the USSR Air Force is a very interesting and exciting subject. Because it is like a ball of thread, pulling the end of the thread, you start to unwind the ball without interruption.😁 As an example, when I was building La-15 here, I promised to talk about some aspects of its development associated with Lavochkin himself, but the more I delved into the subject of research, the more I realized that the story should be started at least from the pre-war period of Lavochkin's activity. but at the same time it is necessary to describe not only the activities of Lavochkin but also the activities of his competitors Yakovlev, Sukhoi, etc. and, among other things, it is necessary to describe the general situation in the aircraft industry of the USSR, which influenced decision-making. As a result, we got a lot of pages, but interesting (!), Story, which is somewhat out of format for building in GB BM. B.R. Serge
  5. How about "The ground yellow cart hunter"? 😉😁 B.R. Serge
  6. 😁😁 Very funny view submarine HNLMS Zeeleeuw, nobody wants to make such a diorama? B.R. Serge P.S. I'm worried about the yellow cart in the photo, no matter how she eats it! 😁
  7. View on Reyhstag 02.05.1945: Resource photo: https://waralbum.ru/366467/ View on Reyhstag after end of the war: Resource photo: https://waralbum.ru/179281/ View Italeri Reyhstag: Who will find the most differences? 😉😁😁 Repeat for best compared: Therefore, as for me, this is a very basic model for such a diorama. Creating a more detailed diorama will require a lot of extraordinary skill from the modeler. The most difficult thing in creating a more detailed diorama, in my opinion, will be the creation of sculptures on the building, which is practically impossible for an ordinary modeler to do. Of course, such sculptures can be made by aftermarket manufacturers, but in this case, for a modeler, such a model will be at the price of a real Reichstag! 😁 Nevertheless, it is likely (depending on the economic situation) that this diorama will definitely find its buyers in the post-Soviet space, as I think. B.R. Serge
  8. Do you really think your cat is just walking down the street? 😉😁 B.R. Serge
  9. I do not want. Because I cannot objectively evaluate those models that I did not build and therefore I do not understand them, therefore my assessments will be at the level of "like / dislike" and this is subjective. B.R. Serge
  10. Bon appetite!!! 😁 Piano Concerto with a Cat! 😁 B.R. Serge
  11. I think because of such a position of the exhaust of such a powerful engine, the lucky pilot will look something like this: 😉😁 I liked the article, Spitfire with a nose wheel too! B.R. Serge
  12. It's no true kit collectors, because really kit collectors always know where put more and more kits! 😉😎😁 Probably it's beginner's kit collectors? 😉😁😁 B.R. Serge
  13. The term "stabilizer" - "стабилизатор" is also more common in Russian terminology, however, the term "horizontal tail" is also used. In fact, for the Russian language, this is a foreign borrowed word, therefore it is almost a foreign word adapted for the Russian transcription in Cyrillic. Therefore, with automatic translation of Russian texts on aviation in Google, you's will constantly come across a "stabilizer"! Was, Was! Was 2 aircraft 388 - Su-27 and 389 - Su-27UB. In contrast to combat aircraft, aircraft of the OKB, LII or parade aircraft had more divergences from combat aircraft. As an example, a MiG-9 with a portrait of Stalin on its nose against the background of a red banner from one of the aviation parades, a overall black Su-15 red 47, M-17 all with inscriptions and so on ... Another more interesting direction is Soviet planes for cinema ... here you can note the MiG-17 with USAF insignia and the inscription of the US Air Force, the Be-12 with a swastika, the Il-38 in the role of Orion with the inscription Navy and American insignia, black IL- 28 as Tornado or Canberra, Black Yak-25RV as U-2, etc. .... according to rumors there was even a Tu-128 depicting a Phantom with "U.S. Air Force" and USAF insignia , but this film has not yet been found. What is characteristic is that a number of planes then flew for some time in film-colored. B.R. Serge
  14. Conventionally, the numbering of the Soviet Air Force, by my memory(!!!), can be divided into such periods: - until the end of WWII - 2-digital & 3-digital ( 3- digital rare); - from after WW II to 1955 year 2-digital, 3-digital & 4- digital; - from 1955 to 1974 2-digital, - from 1974 to ??? 2-digital, 3- digital for training. After the collapse of the USSR, I did not study this topic in detail, nor did I study this topic in the pre-war period, due to the fact that this period is not interesting to me. Su-27 Blue 388 it's the plane belonged to the ЛИИ ВВС/ Lii VVS - Air Force Flight Research Institute, I don't remember exactly, but in my opinion it could even be the Su-27 of the Air Force Flight LII test- pilot school, this aircraft also was on Le Bourge 1988 (or 1989? ) air show, thus Su-27 Blue 388 it is not a combat squadron aircraft, but of course its flight time and intensity of use is greater than that of any combat aircraft. B.R. Serge
  15. Hi, Pete! This is a later charter on the insignia of the USSR Air Force, but in the charter from 1955 that was before it, everything that touched the number is the same: http://www.airforce.ru/information/marking/index.htm 21. The tail number on airplanes is designated by a two-digit number and is applied to the side surfaces of the fuselage or the vertical tail of the airplane from both sides. On heavy bombers, the number is applied only to the vertical tail above the star. On frontline bombers, the number is applied to the side of the fuselage and to the vertical tail above the star. For all other aircraft, the number is applied to the side of the fuselage: on aircraft with an extended nose section - in front of the wing, with a shortened nose section - behind the wing (Appendices 3 and 8). 22. On all aircraft that are part of the aviation unit, numbers are applied at the direction of the senior aviation chief of the garrison, in compliance with the following requirements: - numbers must be in the range from 01 to 99; - numbers for units located at one aerodrome are issued without observing the sequence, for example: one of the regiments is assigned numbers from 05 to 16 and from 43 to 72, the other from 21 to 35 and from 81 to 99; - within the numbers received by the decision of the unit commander, each aircraft of the unit is assigned a number at random; If the number of aircraft of the same type at the airfield exceeds 100 units, it is allowed to apply the same numbers to aircraft of different units. - side numbers for aircraft based on the same airfield are applied with paint of one color (red, blue or yellow) and edged with a black stripe 10-15 mm wide. 23. The following sizes and shapes of numbers for aircraft side numbers are set: А) Height of numbers without edging: 300, 400, 600, 900, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 mm; B ) The width of the digits should be equal to 2/3 of their height, and the thickness of the lines that make up the digit should be 1/6 of their height; C) The numbers on the fuselage board should fit into a conventional rectangle and be applied, if possible, on the lateral projection of the fuselage axis in a place where they are better visible, taking into account the requirements of Art. 22 of this Regulation; D) The numbers of the aircraft side number on the vertical tail of a heavy bomber should be 400 mm high, and on the vertical tail of a front bomber - 400 mm high. http://www.airforce.ru/information/marking/page_04.htm http://www.airforce.ru/information/marking/page_16.htm Therefore, the color of the number was regulated only by the order of the unit commander, and usually different squadrons in the regiment were simply indicated in different colors. For example: the red color of the number - the first squadron of the regiment; blue color of the number - the second squadron of the regiment; the yellow color of the number is the third squadron of the regiment. 16. Pete, As I already wrote, MiG-19 Heller is best done as it is, but if You want to correct his shortcomings with the help of MiG-19 parts from the KP, why not? B.R. Serge
  17. Harsh arctic furry modelers: "Guys! In this truck, new Zvezda items are free! ....with glue and paint!!!" 😁 B.R. Serge
  18. Found: http://www.hobby2you.eu/catalog/sikkerhedsblade/543450.pdf Ordinary Tamiya Cement have next Component Element: Butyl Acetate 123-86-4 40.0% Acetone 67-64-1 40.0% Cyclohexane 110-82-7 7.0% 3-Methoxy-3-Methylbutyl Acetate103429-90-9 2.0% Polystyrene Resin 9003-53-6 11.0% .....the bottle label says more simplistically. B.R. Serge
  19. Yes it was. It was on a Russian forum, and probably somewhere here on BM. Maybe was video on YouTube.... The difference is only in the proportion of components for the glue 50% to 50% for the cleaner 49% to 51% (as far as I can remember, but I may be wrong - the memory can malfunction), as for me 1% is not a very big difference. But the problem is that my local hobby-shop does not have a cleaner either, but the factory and the household market have chemical components for making this glue myself. B.w. the irritating odor in Tamiya glue creates acetone, because butyl acetate smells like pear, and has the colloquial name "pear essence". B.R. Serge
  20. Sorry*, reinforcement plates at the base of the tail unit and main fuselage was! I think here you will find all the answers to Your questions about these reinforcement plates: http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17216&highlight= http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_45341.html http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/lendlease/p-39/misos/general.html https://airpages.ru/uk/p39_2.shtml ______________ * - but I warned: !!!! Therefore, what a demand from me? 🤗 B.R. Serge P.S. As it is written here: https://airpages.ru/uk/p39_2.shtml on some P-39s, in Soviet repair shops, the PF-105 engine was installed, I never knew about it!
  21. But, Dear @corsaircorp P-39 absolutely not my thematic. I can see it on Russian forums, but to be honest, I have doubts about such improvements based on what I read, because the reinforcement of the tail is an increase in weight, but the P-39 already had a rear centering in a certain configuration, why increase it further? B.R. Serge P.S. Probably answer have here: http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_12_start_0.html but in order to find out my need to read 39 pages of the topic!
  22. Having exhausted trying to glue with Mr.Hobby Mr.Cement S (as for my it's not glue, it's 💩, but this very good cleaner for panel line when you scribing panel line!💡) and Mr. Hobby Mr.Cement something with the help, I took this advice ...in results, now I have 1 liter "Tamiya Extra Thin Cement" my own manufacturing!😉😁😎 As no strange, but the most difficult thing here is to buy acetone, good industrial quality .... with butyl acetate, it was more of a problem to find a convenient suitable glass container with a capacity of one liter, because where I bought butyl acetate, they sell it from one liter. The total cost of all components (0,5 liter acetone and 1 liter butyl acetate) cost me about $ 5,5. And yes, it works like Tamiya extra thin cement! I will have to try to make more according "Tamiya extra thin cement quick" to this recipe: 😉😁 B.w. anybody know ingredients and MSDS ordynary "Tamiya Cement"? Non bottle ordynary "Tamiya Cement" written: "Component Element: 12% Synthetic Resin 88% Styrene Organic Solvent" but of course the chemical composition of these components is not indicated. B.R. Serge

  24. Oooo, believe me, as a person who saw two explosions of combat 152-mm shells at a distance of 500-700 meters from yourself, You will remember this all Your life....I, like many residents of the city, was lucky then - the shells hit the city pond, raising fountains of water, less than in the video under discussion, but also quite high - it seemed to me then that it was 20-30 meters up.....just a hot summer 2014...fear, horror? I just didn't have time to experience it ... By the way, I somehow associate this underwater explosion Tallboy with the fate of the ANT-44, a unique Tupolew four engine seaplane https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev_MTB-2 built in two examples, one of them crashed during takeoff on the Gelendzhik beam in the Black Sea, when it took off to bomb the Nazis during WW2. After the WW2, already at the end of the 80s, this ANT-44 was found and since it was in good condition they were going to be raised to the surface. But since it was completely loaded with almost 2 tons of bombs, they did not lift it up, but blew it up because it could pose a danger to ships. This is how the unique ANT-44 aircraft did not become, the second one, if I am not mistaken, disappeared without a trace after flying off to bomb Bucharest. B.R. Serge
