  1. Intentionally put you on the wrong track? Do we actually know who makes the refuelling Truck?
  2. Checked out your post and you've done a really nice job on those windows! Can't decide whether to go for HKM or wait for WNW kit. I note HKM didn't bother with some obvious things like the twisted framing in the nose turret which is straight in the kit? Only ever going to build one so a bit torn. In addition, interior detail looks superior in the WNW kit. I understand HKM kit has the deeper engine cowlings like those on PA474.
  3. Thanks for that tip Don! I'm open to any and all suggestions!
  4. Thanks for the reply. I had a horrible feeling they wouldn't be very flush. I intend to build PA474 which doesn't have the windows, strangely enough neither did R5868 after its overhaul at A V Roe. What was the title of your post?
  5. Can anyone who has the HK Models 1/32 Lanc tell me if it the fuselage windows fit flush enough to erase these without too much filling/sanding?
  6. Many, many years, ago I saw 131 in what was the original Bovington Museum. At that time most exhibits, specially the german WW11 vehicles were still in the colours they were captured in, that I believe included 131. It was overall darkish yellow/ sand - sorry not up on the exact names. Dark gray could be seen on the engine deck and surrounding areas under what seemed to be a sprayed on finish. The tank was naturally 'weathered' and I have no reason to doubt this was it's original finish. Photos of 131 'on test' after arrival in the UK also show it in one overall colour. The colour scheme applied after its restoration bore no resemblance whatsoever to that it wore in the museum for many years.
  7. Strangely enough perhaps the most famous Falklands sub veteran is moored a short distance in front of Courageous - namely her sistership HMS Conqueror!! Shame they didn't decide to preserve conx instead... but I guess preserving the only nuclear powered submarine ever to fire a weapon in anger and actually sink a major surface warship wasn't worth considering? Or perhaps politics got in the way
  8. The seams aren't great, and will take a bit of cleaning up. I have the Eduard set, and I will get around in the future to modifying the Seat mounting - they are on rails and move back to ensure the crew members legs are free of the consoles prior booster firing. But the Revell did the seat fittings based on the prototype when the entire cockpit area was within a capsule that separated from the airframe with the crew inside.
  9. Looked good, but a bit short of the 30 daks? Did the parachute drop actually happen?
  10. I haven't seen anything in news programmes about this, but did the Daks actually fly in a large number over France and carry out the anniversary parachute drop as planned in the end?? I had heard it was called off because of weather?
  11. Presumably this is a kit? It looks pretty impressive! Anybody know who makes it?
  12. The three main sections (which coincidentally mirror the assembly of the real thing) do take a bit of putting together!
  13. HMS Conqueror is still in storage at Devonport. They chose to open up Courageous as a museum Sub instead of Conx. Incidentally, the QE could enter Devonport if one particular area of the river was dredged - a conclusion drawn after a study by QHM. The only real problem seems to be the actual dredging - namely because of ongoing arguments about where all the dredged material could be disposed off.
  14. Where there's a will, there's a way! $35,000,000 is being appropriated to move the USS Texas into a dry dock and replace a good portion of the hull. Its unlikely she'll return to her current location, but be moored elsewhere ( possibly Corpus Christi) with easier access to boost visitor numbers to help pay for her maintenance.
  15. The cost of preservation should never be underestimated, but there also has to be an appetite to do it in the first place - something sadly lacking in the MOD/UK. A number of American vessels are maintained by volunteers. It also depends on where a vessel is moored. Texas location is far from ideal, but a Type 42 or similar at Portsmouth along with Warrior and Victory etc could be easily dry docked every so many years (like HMS Belfast) to ensure the Hull remains in very good condition with cosmetic work undertaken by volunteers or even apprentices. It could be done, but there has to be a will to do it. Mooring a Battleship in an inlet where it will steadily become surrounded by mud - which will rot the keel plates was never a good idea.....
  16. Sadly, they weren't National Museums either. Had they been National exhibits Moored at Plymouth or Portsmouth things could have been very different. The UK Government has no appetite whatsoever for preservation of a Falklands Naval vessel - shame on us.
  17. The purchase of the dock area within which they were moored by a company hell bent on getting rid of them had something to do with that......
  18. Might be old news but I was surprised to hear the Argentinians had successfully refloated this Type 42 Destroyer after she capsized in port and intend to turn her into a Falklands Museum. Meanwhile despite having a great many more ships, the UK has not preserved/dedicated a single vessel as a museum to honour our personnel who fought and Triumphed in the South Atlantic - sadly that just about says it all!!
  19. The Type 42's in the Falklands all head the Union Jack painted on the Bridge roof and the Black vertical Stripes - these were not applied to other Task Force vessels It was purely to ensure our Type 42 Destroyers could be quickly identified as friendly by Submarines, Surface Vessels and Aircraft. The markings were applied en route at Ascension Island.
  20. Our ships also had the union Jack painted on the roof of the bridge
  21. Very nice Aires set! Any fit problems? Bought the 1/32 set for Tamiya F16 and shelf behind seat is too small
  22. Ditto, which set is this? The Blackbox tubs are okay, with a few smaller bits useable, but seats and everything else way out of scale! I've started building the kit using Flightpath set with Bb Tubs and Paragon seats.
  23. That's looking pretty good! The initial A12 prototypes shipped to Groomlake on trucks in very large wooden boxes did fly without paint. But as Oxcart progressed the Black and Silver scheme appeared later followed by overall Black. Which paint range did you use for the Black?
