  1. the red arrows only have enough spares to fly for 2 years or until the100 anniversary of the raf. in any case the caa will get their long held desire to end all air shows that would be worth going to. judging by the lack lustre flying at duxford air show they seem well on the way to achieving that end. regards greycap
  2. just got the attack spit 11, not for those of a nervous disposition. wings need straightening and some care in separating the stubs etc however should be ok with some work. probably not ideal as a kit to start after the best part of a year with modellers block . onward and upward best wishes to all greycap
  3. Buy .beg ,steal or borrow the Advanced techniques volume4 book by auriga publishing. it has every thing needed to detail a sunderland, down to the sink. regards greycap
  4. on the news this morning the caa topdog [politico] said that for the forseable future all of these display are banned , unless we get an aviation minded government the end of airshows and related industry in the uk is now almost certain. shame on all the media. greycap
  5. An absolutely tragic accident, and real people are now gone. While the people who have suffered a loss will never be reconciled with aviation, I would like to put some contexed to the event. during the 65 years since a member of the public was killed at an aviation event, upwards of 5500 building workers have died just doing a job and 6 million brittans have died of direct smoking effects, not much of a call to ban them. my point is that they are not a news worthy events ,non the less, as tragic. now that the campaign against aviation, CAA, have banned certain aspects of air display it wont be long before the air show industry in the uk fades away. it is already a shadow of what it was 20 years ago ,as regards the flying at these events, lacklustre comes to mind. and before any one jumps on my opinions not one member of the public died in the seventies and eighties . knee jerk reactions, and every uninformed comment from celebrity pundits. and media know nothings will not resolve any thing. best stop now . be safe in your endevours greycap
  6. The ghost of ray hanna beating up a field on his way back from a heavenly air display regards
  7. monforton book states that contour of the top cowl has less of a hump on earlier rmk 9s than on later mk 9s or 16s by at least 8 inches. these are people who have crawled all over and measured and drawn 5 spitfires . I suppose that until the Bentley drawing come along or edgar makes an appearance peole will have to believe what they will respects to all grey cap
  8. when i read about the 8 inches I thought it was a lot .apparently the ministry were concerned but reasoned that the spitfire was going to be used more for ground attack so it didn't matter, government thinking, nothing changes. regards greycap
  9. az are very nice kits with a good looking inside. The only other issue I can see is the top cowling appears to be mid production where as the later variants had an 8 inch difference in height giving a more rounded appearance. The earlier variants look flatter. no doubt I will be shot down over this ' regards. greycap
  10. have a quick look on google, or search hannants web site. there seems to be a quite few. regards greycap
  11. Hi Peter I would like to see a HQT high back mk 14c-e with the correct style wing as opposed to an 18 wing which I believe had some different panel lines. regards greycap/
  12. I hope my wife doesn't find out about 8 minutes. as it took ages to convince her that 30 second is ok . cheers greycap
  13. don't seem able to change the title. feel free to change it if you wish. regards greycap
  14. ok paul . 96 views and only 1 reply , must be my name puts people off .I might change it to thread killer. Are you going to the southern expo this year. regards rich
  15. A very important 8 minutes for Britain ,this day in 1936 , the first flight of the spitfire.
  16. hi . all I notice that not one paint manufacturer of paint has stepped up to defend their position , or at least explain why modellers have to put up with a low standard product. It just shows how good todays modellers are to overcome the problems. regards greycap
  17. sadly, the az spitfire wing to fuselage join has different profiles ,so as the wing rises when you adjust the underside, various amounts of filler and sanding needed to adjust the top . on some of the az spits I have done the flap area is slightly rounded so I sand that at the same time. to be fair to az, the wing to fuselage join on most 1/72 spits give me problems. overall the later az spitfire products are the better kits in 1/72. regards greycap
  18. thanks for the replies regards greycap
  19. hi paul would the paint used on the ansons be uk colours or us /Canadian cheers richard
  20. hi . I rubbed down the clipped wing just short of the aileron, offered up the normal wing tip and adjusted it to suit the wing chord and fixed it . lined it up with the top of the wing as the tip is not the same profile as the wing. then I sanded and rescribed .. you might want to spend some time making sure the trailing edge of the wing where it meets the 'gull wing ' is sanded to get a better fit . and thin the whole trailing edge while your at it. regards greycap
  21. hi. I need some help on identifying a vehicle. there is a picture of a b 24 liberator, called ' jerks natural' ,parked up with a vehicle in the back ground. if someone here could google said aircraft and tell me what the vehicle is, and if there is a kit. I would be grateful for the effort, as nobody I have spoken to knows what it is regards. greycap
  22. I use good quality cotton buds and then throw them away. regards greycap
  23. whoops sorry . it was fightersweep. still, 49 replies and 1400 views and nobody from the producers seems to want to reply. to be fair to Hornby, the new paint seem to be no worse than any other new paint . I only use enamel so I cant say anything about other paints. cheers greycap
  24. we will see when space ranger gets a reply from Hornby. steve's test applies to all the modern enamels I have tried, some are better than others. I suggest we all become avid pre shaders and then colour saturation wont matter, in any case I don't think manufactures will change simply because modellers are a captive audience with nowhere else to go. it is good to see other modellers think a bit like me. when I have posted about paint in the past I seemed to be able to kill a thread quicker that any known site moderator. any way ,you all enjoy the rest of the holiday. greycap
  25. hi . it would be interesting to hear from a modern model paint maker/ supplier how he or she defends selling us what amounts to tlnted oil. I suppose newer modellers don't know any different, and up until this thread nobody else has remarked on it or at least debated it. best wishes greycaap
