  1. Yeah, time old boy, just time and a big enough picture frame / board for what I've in mind. Bought a bunch of cheap plain picture frames a while ago but they just aren't quite big enough for what I've in mind. The actors/protagonist are pretty much ready just need the groundwork. I've another distraction on the bench too, the Mrs bought me a kit as a gift so obviously that's been bumped up the schedule. Never worked in 1/700 before, the faces are so tiny ! Darryl
  2. Thanks, I tried the hip to shoulder just wouldn't sit right so decided it looked better, if inaccurate just over one shoulder. Even in 1/35 he does keep losing it every time he falls from his saddle... Thanks again for the comments much appreciated. Darryl
  3. Hi Roger, thanks I'll try that. Determined to crack, or at least become acceptable, at figures so any suggestions are worth trying. Cheers Darryl Hi Jim, thanks, glad it meets with your approval!👍 Yeah, pegs think I've got that covered, even got around to weathering some! Cheers Darryl
  4. Crikey that didn't take long, cleaned up nicely. No point in hesitation or indecision... If it's not to early to ask what went wrong with the hairspray technique, just asking in case I get around to having a go. Good luck 🤞 Darryl
  5. Not bad...Perhaps put a little effort in next time.... One doesn't want to risk sounding overly excited, decorum old boy... However just Between us, flipping marvellous. Some lovely touches, like the chair and family portrait in the ruin, the building and groundwork, the ....to much to mention. Pity about the figures though, really sucks when they look so.... irritatingly good !!! Sorry old chap but that's just not cricket, how am I supposed to pinch ideas / learn from whoopsies if we only get the edited highlights!😉 If I can bore folk with pages of drivel then... Great work btw. Looking forward to seeing the tiger make a comeback, hope you'll try a little with this one. Cheers Darryl
  6. Thanks, the wire might be an idea, I could wind two or three strands together to produce a more realistic sit/sag.... Cheers and thanks for looking! Darryl
  7. Looking really good, nice work with the chipping. Good work on the tracks too, particularly being so small! Atb Darryl
  8. Hi Lee, looking at the pics it'll be fine, particularly so if you're going to try a winter wash again. Obviously its difficult to tell from the pictures but i suspect your focusing on the little bits that you've spotted that nobody else will, after all we can be our own worst critics! I'd crack on and have a second attempt. Having never tried a winter finish I can't speak with experience but there are a number of different approaches that you could experiment with, hairspray, salt, chipping fluid just to name a few that come to mind. Do you have an old hulk or something to experiment on first before committing to the III? An optimist! Good God that's the last thing anyone needs around here, a little ray of sunshine.... This isn't supposed to be fun you know.... Atb Darryl
  9. If only my figure painting sucked so bad, its just appalling....how Steve can sleep at night! On a more serious note, sorry to hear of your mishap, very little is unsalvegable though.. Even if it's a case of flat down and a fresh white wash to depict a newly prepared vehicle.. Probably best bet give it a rest till tomorrow and approach with a fresh head, if experience has taught me anything.. Dare we ask, which/what approach did you try? Good luck, sure you'll save it! Darryl
  10. Welcome to the my cross eyed world! I struggle like heck with them but nothing like practice to get it in the end. Good idea replacing the noggin. Probably obvious but a good quality brush. I was advised to get a really good brush, in the end Tamiya ultra fine and upwards of, makes a huge difference even over a sharpened cocktail stick for the eyes etc. A wet pallet was also suggested and a set of Lifecolour, or similar, flesh coloured paints. Some of the chaps on here to amazing work with figures so it's worth having a look at those. Good luck, I'll look, forward to seeing how it comes out. Darryl
  11. Thanks, very kind, always struggled with them, faces inparticular, however as they say practice makes.... Tbh the camel was a treat to do, dead easy face and eyes! Thanks again. Darryl
  12. Always hated trying to do figures but afvs I feel can look incomplete without at least one bod in attendance. Having used a Masterbox figure for a Grant the set came with a Camel and rider which I decided to practice with. Assembly was ok, a few smears of putty here and there but no real problems. Basic paintwork by airbrush, detail by brush, all with acrylics. Still struggling with eyes but purchasing good quality Tamiya brushes have helped a lot with the detail work. Rifle pinched from the spares box, sling made from ez line. Camels rein from cotton thread. Could do with trying to reduce the "balloon" effect of the reins somehow. Any further suggestions or tips gratefully received as figures are still a black art but would like to improve. (It's not mounted on a base yet as have an idea for incorporating it in a vignette/diorama). Well that's about it, hope you don't mind an interloper from afvs! Cheers Darryl Apologies if its picture heavy Thanks for looking Darryl
  13. Thanks Dan, not sure about perfection in any way shape or form but it's fun.. Great call on the Tamiya paint brushes btw, absolute game changer. Bought 5 or 6 of them from ultra fine upwards, makes such a difference. Soooooo much better than so-so brushes and pointed sticks etc! Still a long way to go with the figures but at least I now have the tools! Thanks again for that. Darryl
  14. Hi Nick, nice to see this back in the game. Going to look impressive when complete I'm sure. Atb Darryl
  15. Really taking shape now, nice grubby panzer grey, well used. Nice wood effect on the tools too. Interesting to see the white wash works out, never tried one myself. Atb Darryl
  16. Looks a nice little project, tag along if I may. Difficult to beat Tamiya for a well engineered kit that hopefully shouldn't present too many issues! Atb Darryl
  17. Superb, wonderful job with the Archer, great paintwork and weathering. Some great touches too particularly like the stowage and exhaust, as has been mentioned earlier, really nicely painted. Great work Darryl
  18. Very impressive, great work on both the Karl and the flatbed of which I particularly like the weathering. Your doing the munition carrier/loader too, that will make for a very neat looking collection. Great work Darryl
  19. Really cracking on with this one, looking good! Nice modulation on the panzer grey too btw. Cheers Darryl
  20. Thanks John, easy to get fixated on something you may not be 100% sure about. At least if I've a snagging finger nail it'll come in useful... Thanks Roger, looking forward to getting the black on, do think the black and green looks quite classy, traditional if you will.... Hi Lee, thanks. Might have to get a Chally II, particularly since RFM has just announced they have a new one coming out.. as if I need an excuse to buy any more kits! The Covid symptoms or perhaps post infection symptoms really like to stick around, think it's been about 10wks and shes just starting to get back to "normal" 🤞. Glad to her you all made a good recovery, hopefully should offer a degree of safety even if it might only be in the short term! Thanks Dan, looking forward to getting the paintwork completed, might have to wait till next weekend but it's not a race, is it? Thanks again chaps, really appreciate the comments and feedback. Atb Darryl
  21. Well, that's just charming! And what is wrong with traditional green and black! Darryl
  22. Hi John, I'd forgotten all about this one! Funny how somethings when amiss stand out as just not being quite right, neatly corrected. Looking good with a splash of paint. Atb Darryl
  23. Hi @FrancisGL, nice to hear from you, hope you've been well. Early days yet, the antislip is a bit too rough imo but will see how it turns out. Early days for the paintwork yet, it will darken with weathering etc but hopefully it'll work out ok, next job, time permitting, will be the black camo. Essentially I'm treating it just the same way I'd do wartime olive drab...🤞 Cheers Darryl
  24. Hope we'll get to see the full collection of the "enemy" when done. Only done one set of Fruils and I actually enjoyed them...must be mad! I'll see how the Tamiya ones work out and then decide. Cheers Darryl
  25. Never mind panzer III and IVs I'm up for one of those! Perhaps not as iconic as a Churchill and Matilda but not far off as for British WWII armour. 🤞 Darryl
