  1. I meant to say that your build looks great, too! :). by the way, it was a Brittania. Martin
  2. Me too, mate. In 1973 I had a 5.5 hour epic trip BZZ-MAN-PIK-BZZ as a cadet, doing umpteen circuits and bumps. Very nice! Martin
  3. Quite possibly, Michael, although i dont know how detailed the HP conversion set is. If you build one and want decals i have leftovers!!! I'll be ebaying them. I won't be building another ..... Well, if i do it will be Indonesian martin
  4. Hi all, Another from the paint shop. I'm not so proud of this one as I had a few issues along the way, particularly with the Humbrol red ;). She is a Fujimi F-86F converted to a CAC Sabre using a Tasman set. However, I wanted to retain more detail than the Tasman set offers and also feature open speed brakes. So I set about blending the two, essentially inserting the Tasman lower nose in to the Fujimi and then inserting the NACA vents from the Tasman also. It isn't entirely accurate but I got to the stage that I just wanted her done. The biggest disaster was when I used some setting agent for the decals on the dayglo. Foolishly I didn't gloss coat as the panels were already pretty shiny. The result was a number of "stains" that I couldn't remove. Anyway, that's it and here she is. The detail: She represents "A94-946", operated by the ARDU from Laverton for sidewinder trials. Kit - Fujimi F-86F "Mig Killer" (you could use a "SkyBlazers" offering) Conversion - Tasman Cockpit - Pavla Decals - Model Alliance (72125) Paints - Humbrol 191 and Humbrol 209 (with white and yellow undercoats). I hope you like her. M
  5. Thanks mate. There is another Meteor (Mk.4), a F-80C and a AT-33A to go yet, plus a Canadair Sabre, all Latin ... plus an F4U, F-47D, a T-28 and a F-51D M
  6. All, Here's the latest from the Williams' paint shop. In keeping with my current Latin theming it is a Meteor FR.9, operated by Grupo de Caza 2111, Fuerza Aerea Ecuatoriana. They operated this model from Taura AB between 1954 and 1972, with 12 delivered from Tarrant Rushton. I used the MPM Meteor FR.9 plus a resin cockpit set from CMK and a set of rails from an MPM "Aussie" Meteor F.8. In Ecuador it was operated solely as a fighter/ground attack machine and the recce ports were blanked. For the decals I made the serials and some stencils and used a set of Aztec roundels that were for an A-37. They are not the exact size but close enough. I finished her is Humbrol 191 and dirtied her up with Flory "Dirt" and then finished off with Humbrol Gloss Cote. Oh, and a bit from my broom for the aerial! The only image I have found of these machines. that are not showing the aerobatic team, is this: The MPM kit was generally okay, as many of you know, but a bugger around the nose and nose wheel. I did my best. I hope you like her. Martin
  7. That is an absolute beauty, mate!!!! Very nice Martin Amended to say..... in my excitement I forgot that I'd already posted on this!!!
  8. No problem. It seems from, what I've researched, that this was not a regular font and wasn't even USAF approved. I want it for a Colombian F-80 I'm going to embark on, which had this style of font for the serials. I'll keep digging M
  9. Thanks Dave. I have Amarillo. Any idea what the "North American" font was called?
  10. Ah, I remember some of these coming through Gatwick on their way to Blackbushe in the 1970s.... Nice to see at an international airport!
  11. Hi all, I hope you'll excuse the question because it may have been asked before. I can't find anything, though, when I search. Does anyone know what the USAF font was that preceded Amarillo? This would be for 1950s jets? Thanks. Martin
  12. Hi all, Is there anyone out there who has a good knowledge of the Argentine Meteors an their colours? I'm writing because I'm sceptical, but open to be wrong! My question is about the multitude (seemingly) of highly coloured HSS Meteors, many with cheguerboards, stripes and/or large panels of red, yellow or black .... and more. My scepticism comes from the fact that while I the decal producers show these in their offerings I can only find artificial images on line, most of which are from SimPC users. The only true images I can find on line show either HSSS or the later camouflage. I have to say, though, that there are some museum/pole examples with these schemes but even they are not giving me much confidence. Any thoughts? Am I way off beam? Thanks. Martin PS: I have an MPM Meteor F.4 ready to go so awaiting your thoughts eagerly!!!
  13. I think now that the decal set instructions are correct and that Humbrol 205 is the closest. I'll apply that over a white, then yellow, base coat. I really appreciate your post, mate. Is that photo from a book? If so, which one? Martin
  14. Bingo! That does it for me! Thanks soooooo much! Martin
  15. Intriguing mate. The record on ADF Shows: There is a discrepancy on the aircraft status card, it states it was received 1 AD 04/09/56 with installed Avon CAC101. Then states allocated to ARDU on 27/08/56 It served as Sidewinder missile trials aircraft wearing DayGlo nose, tail and wing panels. To 3 AD 22/06/62 for dismantling for air uplift to 78 Wing Malaya. To 79 Sqn 25/10/67. To 77 SQN 30/07/68. To 2 OCU 14/08/69. To GAF Avalon 05/03/70. To 5 OTU 27/05/70. On 23/11/71 approval given for free transfer to Malaysia. To 11 SQN RMAF 08/12/71 as FM1946, phased out 1976. Highlight for Album: Sabre A94-946 A rear fuselage marked A94-946 was noted in scrap yard in Keon Park, Vic 09/89 This ended up at Moorabbin Air Museum. It was badly corroded however the tailplane and fin were used in the restoration of A94-989
  16. Thanks chaps. If you saw it badly corroded they must have done a job on it as it went on to serve the Malaysians! M
