19 01 2026 Hi all. I want to do a model of one of the B-24 D Liberator assembly aircraft. Can anyone recommend a kit for me please in 1/72 scale? I was thinking the Airfix one might do. I want to do B-24 D-1-CO 'Wam Bam' 41-23738 of 453rd BG, 1944 Old Buckenham. Thanks Liam

18 04 2025 Hi all. I'm kind of in the same boat as Mikkel. I am looking for scale drawings of the DH. 104 series 5 Dove. Can anyone help please? I want to build the Irish Aer Crops #188 that crashed in the 1960's. I think it had observation bubbles in the fuselage windows directly behind the cockpit. I need to know if there was an observation window on each side of the fuselage. Cheers. Liam

19 03 2025 Hi All Just curious about the Cripes A' Mighty name on aircraft. More specifically, how many aircraft. I know about the Razorback, the P-51B; the two Mustangs, But I am interested to how many jets carried the this title? Thanks Liam

30 10 2024 Hi all Following on from my query about the existence of a 1/48 DHC Twin Otter I got to thinking about whether there might be scale drawings exisiting as well? I am thinking of the type usually included with the likes of Scale Aircraft Modeller or similar? So would there be a an archive of scale plans exisiting somewhere? I have searched but cannot find anything Liam

20 07 2024 Hi All again... just a quick update. I had a search through my paints and the paint sets (which I hadn't looked at) and in the Vallejo Air War Color Series US Army Air Corps European Theatre of Operations (ETO) WWII they have 71.137 US Light Green FS34151-ANA611. This is part of their Model Air range. Comparing it to Model Air 71.094 Green Zinc Chromate it seems like 71.137 might be a closer match for what I want....it looks a little less olive Give ntha a little more green than the Ammo option FS34151 by Ammo (Zinc Chromate Int.Green. Looking at the information sheet that comes with this set Vallejo say that, basically, Zinc Chromate Green Vallejo 71.094 is a 'variant of the popular primer. At the beginning of the 1940's a paste of black was added, changing the color to a greenish tone.' About ANA611 Interior Green (fs34151) Vajello 71.137 it states : 'Color resulting from the mixture of black pigment and Zinc Chromate.....the color was given the code 611 at the introduction of the system ANA in 1943.' Sooo, as I want to make a machine prior to the 1940's I use 71.094 and anything after 1940's-ish I use 71.137. Given that the 79th Pursuit Squadron machine was probably built 1940/1941 I might be able to use 71.094 on it and the other machine with the desert camo can be done with 71.137/ANA 611? 🫤 I thought German colours were a pain 😃 Liam

20 07 2024 Hi all! I have asked this before and was greatly helped by the Britmodeller Elite on just what would be an appropiate FS number for American Interior Green. At the time I was getting ready to build a Spanish North American T6 D/G Texan ( see here: what FS number interior green for North American Texan? - Aircraft WWII - Britmodeller.com) but the query has resurrected itself this time with regards to a P-40E. I want to complete two builds I started a few years ago before my wife passed and it has taken a little time to remember just what I was intending to do with them. One was going to be a desert camo maching, probably RAF and the other was going to be an American P-40E of the 79th Pursuit Squadron, 20th Pursuit Group, Louisiana Manoeuvres, late 1941. Beautiful markings with a striking wide yellow band around the roundel. I'm using AMT/ERTL 1/48 kits for both. So, the kit instructions say use either FS 34151 for zinc chromate Interior Green or H58 (Gunze). My problem with these is that, just my feeling, the FA34151 seems too olive for what you might think of as interior green, while the H58 feels a little yellow. I know that in Histoire & Collections 'Planes and Model Kits: P-40' by Emmanuel Pernes and 0livier Soulleys their second build is the Hasegawa P-40E, they use Gunze H58 Interior Green and 're-work' the tone afterwards with Tamiya XF-4 green yellow which they claim is similar to yellow zinc chromate. Looking at the pictures though thye've actually used Mr. Hobby Hobby Color H58. Anyways...I have FS34151 by Ammo (Zinc Chromate Int.Green) and I have Mr Hobby H 58 Interior Green. I also have Vallejo Model Air 71.094 Green Zinc Chromate. Of the three, Vallejo seems closest to what I see in photos of American WW2 fighters cockpits. Thanks in advance for your advice Liam (scratching head)

what FS number interior green for North American Texan?

Corsairfoxfour: Thanks for the links. The first one is the exact scheme I want to make. Thanks for your help Liam -
27 05 2024 Hi All I wasn't sure where to post this but I'm going to make Spanish Texan D but I'm unsure which Interior Green to use in the cockpit and if it's the same as Chromate Green to be used on interior surfaces like the wheel-wells and inside the engine cowling. I think that as the version I will be using was an American T-6 Texan that was bought and used by the Spanish that it would remain in the interior green paint it was originally painted in. (I'm assuming that the American version of Interior Green for the cockpit was different to the cockpit interior green used by the RAF). So, can anyone recommend an accurate FS number for this please? I found a couple of possibilities : Ammo Acrylic Color FS34151 Zinc Chromate Int. Green (which seems a little olive) Vallejo Model Air 71.094 Green Zinc Chromate ( seems good but difficult to brush paint) Lifecolor Acrylic Camouflage Series UA 522 RAAF Int Green FS 24110 My preference is acrylic paints. Any help would be appreciated. I would also like to recommend the Duke Hawkins Classics: Classic Aircraft in Detail 002 North American T-6 Harvard/Texan book. Excellent detailed photo references but it's difficult to determine the actual of the cockpit as it seems to vary dependent upon lighting etc sometimes seeming very light and in other shots looking darker. I'd also recommend, if you can get it, is William Jesse's T-6 Texan: The Immortal Pilot Trainer. Brilliant, bright and fun book. Excellent color photos of Texans painted in a variety of schemes ranging from the regular expected trainer schemes to Texans painted as Lufftwaffe and Japanese aircraft aircraft, trainers and display aircraft. 30 04 2024 Hi All I 'm tyring out Mr. Hobby Aqueous paints and I am looking for some advice on how to best brush paint them. My preference when painting models is to brush paint areas like the cockpit and it's elements and the wheel wells etc. I know that these paints are 'thin' for airbrush use and I watched a youtube video Scale Model Tips - How To Use Mr. Hobby Aqueous Paints - Airbrushing & Brushing - Great Paints !! (youtube.com) on how to prepare them for use with a brush which essentially boils down to adding an amount of Mr. Retarder Mild. However, it didn't seem to work well some colors like khaki. Although, in fairness it did seem to work well with greys. To me it seems like you are adding thinning agent to a thin paint to make it brush better which doesn't make sense. So, does anyone out there have a better take on this? Regards, Liam

Quick question: How do you make the detonation chord for canopies?
yeehah1 replied to yeehah1's topic in Modelling Tips
Alex I like the fuse wire idea. But do you think I should put the fuse wire inside the canopy or outside on the top of the canopy? It just occurred to me to ask the question mainly as my only point of reference would be the Hawk detonation chord which is almost embossed into the canopy. Just trying to think what would look better. Regards Liam -

@Alex Gordon. Thanks for the picture. It'll be a great help. Is it me or does it look like there is a transparent panel separating the front and rear of the cockpit? Similar to the Hawk? Liam
