The odd demarcation line is not shown in McDermott's NDW book, however, on page 108 there is a drawing of late NDW A-8, A-9 and F-8 fuselages showing the upper part of this demarcation line on the lower NDW Lübeck-produced fuselage (January - April1945). So, in reality it could just be a segment of the camouflage being extended further down the fuselage. Very interesting! Jens

Phantom F4-B. VF-41 USS Independence 1965 (1/48)
Jens replied to jenko's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
That's a beautiful Phantom you have built there! As an early F-4B (1965) it would not have had the small trunion bulges on top of the wings, nor the various antennas underneath the wings and intakes. It would have had the unslotted stabs and Martin Baker Mk. 5 seats. In fact, the seats are the only thing not readily available on the kit. Jens -
Is the Airfix 1/48 Lynx HMA.8 fit really bad ? DECISION MADE
Jens replied to Rickpadwick1801's topic in Aircraft Modern
Exactly how do they contradict each other? The only hickup I can see is the repeated use of the exploded view in stages 59 and 60. Oh, and how does the design not allow you to position the landing gear in the correct position? Jens -
I fully agree MikeC. Also, some decal designers seem interested in just making something up quickly, so they use standard computer fonts instead of drawing the real types of letters and numbers. Jens

Yes, that would make it easier to find the correct reference pictures. I have been looking for a specific VF-84 F-14A in overall gull grey for years. It was originally featured on an old Micro Scale sheet and later on a Afterburner sheet. All I could find was a mis-interpreted b/w picture in a C&M book, and not even the decal manufacturer could point me towards correct references. Today I am convinced it was all a mis-interpretation of another scheme. That said, in the Paulus Victor Danish sheet was based on so many references, from pictures to official RDAF painting instructions, that the list would be incredibly long. Jens

Having provided information, dimensions and reference pictures for several different decal manufacturers I can confirm this. The most thorough so far has been Paulus Victor; thorough research, attention to even the smallest details and extensive proof 'reading'. On the other end of the scale was Xtradecal; incorrect dimensions and colours despite having been provided with correct data, no attention to details and practically no proof 'reading'. Jens

The Kinetic kits still have an incorrect fin base for the A/B models. It's more like a compromise between the A/B and the C/D tails. Jens

F-4E, Zoukei Mura, 1/48, Israel.

I would love to see this model, but for some reason I cannot see the pictures. Jens -
Thanks Parabat. The majority was X-24 with a single drop of XF-49 and XF-57 each. I wanted it to be a bit translucent, hence the majority of X-24. Jens

So, after 9½ years I have now finally made a decision and painted the leading edges on my Harrier. I ended up using a mix of Tamiya acrylics - clear yellow, khaki and buff. Of course I forgot to paint the tailfin and stabs leading edges, so I had to make another mix for those. Jens

This is it! However, some CF-104s received the wider wheels and bulged main wheel doors after being sold til e.g. Denmark. Our CF-104s were upgraded to F-104G/TF-104G stanard. I don't recall whether Norway did the same, but AFAIK Turkey did not upgrade their CF-104s (unless they were already upgraded from Norwegian stock). Jens

Help needed on Danish RF-84F camo colors for KA-coded machines
Jens replied to Shorty84's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Our RF-84Fs were natural metal initially. At some point they were painted dark green and dark sea grey on the upper surfaces with the lower surfaces being light grey (perhaps light aircraft grey - or at least something similar). Later on the lower surfaces were painted PRU blue. When overhauled and repainted in the Netherlands the dark grey became much darker. HTH, Jens- 20 replies
