  1. ...yup got the Jayhawk conversion resin and decals from Werner for my HH60 Rescuehawk....I'm thinking to do that build next!
  2. Hi Rob, I've got the Pavehawk as well...it's next but one on the list...possibly...but you're right these KH choppers are brilliant!! To be honest I've not had that much problem with the cabin...touch wood.....I tend to build structure under the the floor and in the roof using I-beams and plasticard stripes to stop the two halves bending in/out when pressure is applied during gluing.... .....yeah....KH numbering is a bit hit and miss....but it wouldn't be fun if it was all in order
  3. Hi all, sorry for the delay in updating this build thread....well....its probably because there's not much to natter about just yet...but anyway this is where I am at the moment. So this is the basically just starting out and I'm already disappearing into the realms of absurdity with the maniacal detailing of minute and insignificant parts....you know....that bizzare rabbit hole of obsessing about some daft bit of plastic that no sod will ever see once all the bits are closed up!! Okay, so within the cabin interior is this gizzmo which I'm assuming is some games console to keep the lads amused on long flights...GTA or Call Of Duty....to pass the time since I assume there's not much in the way of a trolly service on these things? So this is the starting positions.... .....the bit I'm faffing around with at the moment is HF21 which is the keyboard insert. Now there is a decal which goes over it but to be honest I thought I'd have go at doing my own rendition and here's the thing....a biiiiiiiig shout out and slap on the back to wozzizname at ANYZ decals because they're absolutely flipping ammmmaaazzzing daaaarrrrling....spoken in the voice of that lad Craig Revel-Hallwood??...something like that. Its Strictly Come Dancing on at the moment and the girls are getting excited...its the final....woot woot. I digress. So with the assistance of ANYZ this is my take on the GTA controller....still a lot to do on it but its a start.... Its a tiny wee thing!!!! The actual console....the main bit HC35 is being spindled, bent and mutilated at the moment. Basically all the factory made detailing is being stripped off as it's going to have it's own switches and dials and doohdads added and inserted so there has to be some crazy small holes drilled....these are 0.3mm holes using these tungsten Dspiae drills. Oh yeah...these are the ANYZ decals being used on controller.....they really are the dogs bits for fine detailling.... As I said this is just the beginning of the process of putting the console together....one thing though...from the reference piccies I've seen, there is supposed to be another wee console which fits on top of the actual part. This isn't part of the kit so I've built my own from plastic strips and stuff...once it's finished it'll sit on top with a bunch a power cables and stuff coming out of it....this is it in a raw state.... ...and it'll fit sommat like this when it's done.... Yeah I know the piccy is total garbage.....I'll put a new one up shortly. So there you have it for the moment. The upshot so far of all this is mindless obsessing about something that will basically not be seen...but hey it's fun....least wise I tell that to myself as the girls look on and roll their eyes and sigh that benevolent sigh that translates as "jeezuz what a total moron" Cheers all and have a wonderful Christmas...or whatever it's called nowadays Oh yeah.....and some lass called Ellie just won strictly....spoiler alert.....
  4. So I just wondered if anyone was interested in having a look at how one of the larger scale Helicopters from Kitty Hawk goes together? I haven't seen too many of these beasts on the forum so not really sure what the appetite is for them....also since Kitty Hawk's gone tits-up I'm guessing probably not much!? Anyway I've built a couple of these things now and love building them and wanted to add a another to the little nest of Hawks so thought I'd give the Ocean Hawk a bash. Okay, this will be the 1/35 Kitty Hawk SH-60F Kit Number KH50007...will probably add a few bits and here and there and intend doing it with the blades at full extension rather than folded...I think they look kindda sad and dejected with the wings folded...these are Hawks...they're mean looking sweethearts so I like to have them in all their glory. Just puzzling over which scheme to do though....was thinking of this one.... or but not sure as sometime next year I'm planning to build the HJ-60 Coast Guard version...so it'll be a make it up as I go along sort of thing. This beast will probably take several months as I'm a pretty slow builder but I think the idea will be to point out some of the oddball things about the kit and the parts and play around with scratch building some bits and bobs...nothing major. Anyway I'll start putting together some piccies and stuff as I go along. Thanks for looking Cheers
  5. .......health & safety......one must be careful to promote the right ethic in the work environment......
  6. Hi, it was quite a cast of chararcters really...one of those situations where you sort of make it up as you go along...I started with a base of dark sea grey and slate greys and then just built up the blacks on top depending on which part I was looking at...the idea was to paint small so there was no uniformity in the black/dark tone. The main tones were a lot of tire black/NATO black/basic black/Panzer Grey/Slate grey then graphite as a toner and then highly thinned lighter greys like dark ghost/ghost grey on top to bring it together. To be honest it was just trial and error until I had something that didn't look the same shade of black all over....then it's just a case of dry brushing the bits you want to pop out with steel/dark grey/dark brown...sorry I know this is a bit vague but I just kept shooting colour and adding and adding until I had what a thought was something half way interesting...
  7. Hi, and thanks for the comment... ....no not really....it was just the hydraulic hoses (or whatever they are??) and making the plugs and midpoint splitter for the hoses, also some work on the top manifold so the hoses would fit without coming loose...but to be honest was minimal - the detail that KH put into their helicopters is basically bloody good. There are few oddball things but hey it's all part of the fun.... Cheers
  8. Thanks mate! yeah I've noticed that the Helicopters don't feature much....which is a shame coz I love building them...I guess the issue being the lack of good modern bigger scale kits...?? Sort of naffed me off when Kitty Hawk went tits up as they had some good chopper kits! Anyway thanks for the thumbs-up
  9. Hi All, this is my version of the 1:35 Kitty Hawk, Black Hawk - HM-60L.....sorry bout the photos I promise to get a better camera....wanted to try this out as painting something that's supposed to be totally black and make it not look totally black and boring was maybe an interesting challenge....yeah so....anyway make what you will of this thing... Thanks for looking Cheers
  10. yeah...I know what you mean...there's quite a bit of farting about cutting and rotating parts as KH made a bit of dogs breakfast out of this bit...all the bits are there its just that you need divine inspration to make sense of them...I think Flory did one, he has a full build on Youtube which I think went into it in some detail if you're interested.
  11. Hi Winnie...they really aren't...I've built a couple of these helicopters from Kitty Hawk now and they fit together beautifully.....they really do! I know there's a lot of people who found these a real ball-ache but its just attention to detail. You just have to do a lot of dry fitting and make sure all the edges are clean so that you get clean contacts and no gaps....it's all patience and attention to detail. The one thing I would do when fitting the two fuselage halves together is build structure into the areas where the two halves come together so you can create a solid bond..... I used I-Beams on the top so that when the halves come together and when pressure is applied the seam can't bow inwards...and you get a solid contact....likewise on the bottom I built up structure with strips of plasticard and then the last strip is a thin one which sort of acts as a guide to bring the two halves into the correct - again you can then apply pressure to the join without it bowing..... There are a few other oddities but if you start building one let me know and I'll give you any hints I can. All the sub-assemblies that fit onto the actual hull are amazingly good fits....I think you'll have fun building them!! Cheers Alan
  12. Thanks mate. Yeah it was fun trying to make it a bit more zazzy but really fiddly as it's really small...there was another panel by the door, again it was just a flat bit of plastic but when I was looking as some photos of this beast there were some with control panels and stuff which I thought looked better than a blank bit of plastic....this was the result....was a bit icky close up but better than nothing.... ...thing is now it's all buttoned up you can't really see it.... One thing though, I was playing around with those Anyz 1/32 resin knobs and dials and they are bloody good! Really fiddly though coz they're so small (banjaxed a few drills as well) but worth it......sorry I'm wittering.....
  13. Thanks mate If you find one do let me know....I've been after another one too but damned if I can find one....
  14. ....I'll be buggered....didn't know that...good spot....we'll keep that between us girls huh....don't tell anyone else.....😀
