Gekko_1
In this video there is a quick view of an Su-35S with a lot of mission markings behind its number (Red 04). Its pretty hard to count them, but if each red star is 10 missions then 240 might be the amount? Cheers Richard.
Gekko_1
Russian Navy Su-33 Red 88 has been lost due to an arrestor wire malfunction on-board Kuznetsov. Pilot ejected safely and was rescued by helo. Apparently Red 88 was upgraded with SVP-24 bombing computer.
stalal
Why dont the Russian Sukhoi planes dont carry drop tanks? They look big and heavy. Do they have enough fuel capacity internally to carry out mission when fully configured with weapons?
Jure Miljevic
Hello Which type of Sukhoi, Stalal? Su-7 was notorious because of her short range even with drop tanks. Range of Su-17 M3 and M4 versions is adequate, but only just. Su-24 has good range for front line duties (Soviet/Russian terminology), but is a bit short legged in her Cold war strike role. With Su-27 and her derivatives there is another story: air defence versions had been designed with large internal fuel capacity to avoid drop tank performance degradation and to make them less dependable on in-flight refueling. As in Syria combat sorties are all more or less short range, there is hardly any need for drop tanks. This is something Soviet/Russian sources have always been very keen to point out as one of the major advantages of Su-27 over her potential adversaries. Right or wrong, Su-27 range is considered of secondary importance and sometimes even ignored in the West. Cheers Jure

The same which were allowed to flights had considerable restrictions on many operational parameters. B.R. Serge

And why to spend new bombs when warehouses are hammered with the old bombs made during the Soviet Union? Especially as the warranty period of safe storage of old bombs approaches the termination and all the same will have to utilize them! It is simpler and more rational to utilize them having poured out on the head of the enemy (especially as the Gefest ( Hephaestus) system allows to do it with a high accuracy), than to do it at some plant sorting them on components. However, at one of forums mention of downing of a certain UAV which put very strong electronic countermeasure around Tartus base met. Possibly it just and there was UAV RQ-21A "Integrator" type? 🤔 But UAV RQ-21A "Integrator" type has too small payload, and it isn't specified anywhere that UAV RQ-21A "Integrator" type can bear the equipment electronic countermeasure.... 🤔 B.R. Jure Miljevic
Hello, Serge Slovene translation would be ˝reaktivni balon˝ or ˝jet balloon˝ in English. But since MLRS missile, which usually is rocket powered, is ˝реактивный снаряд˝ in Russian, I assumed ˝rocket˝ would be more accurate. My apologies for mix-up. My knowledge about modern UAV is very basic. Still, three expended missiles to down one drone sounds like it had had been protected in some way, ECM or otherwise. Aardvark
Jure, a picture is worth a thousand words! I believe it was talked of it: (a photo of the trophies taken at ISIL) Apparently, it is a combination of a gas cylinder as head part with explosive and the welded scraps of water pipes as a rocket enjine with stabilizers. As result have home-made MLRS rocket. B.R. Serge
Jure Miljevic
Hello, Serge Improvisation is the mother of invention. Reminds me of domestic water boilers, gas cylinders and similar objects, converted into improvised bombs and pushed out of An-2 transports/bombers during initial year or so of 1991-95 wars on Balkan. Still, such ˝poor man's MLRS˝ can be a real nuisance, not to mention potential damage caused by occasional lucky hit. Proper air defences are thus essential. Yes, such self-made baloon rocket MLRS has the low accuracy and small range in comparison v.s factory rockets MLRS, but it cheap and bears enough explosive and the striking elements to cause considerable destructions. Fortunately modern complexes of air defense, such as Pancir-S can destroy them. B.R. Serge
