PS- The Syrian Mig 23 is interesting too.... it would make a great diorama!

Latakia (Syria), November 30 Russian Su-34 on Monday for the first time flew to perform combat missions in Syria,

not only with bombs, and with the addition of air-to-air missiles.

Glad to see the Russians toting LGBs on these Su-34s now. There is something quite incongruous about that first picture, where you see a very hi-tech aircraft toting 4 x bombs that look like left-overs from a WWII bomb dump !.

Are Western aircraft fly to bomb IS armed with AAMs?

It's even more general question - are modern fighter-bombers normally perform strike missions with or without air-to-air armament?

Western aircraft have carried AAMs on strike missions, For a long time.

Russian/Soviet wheel hubs have been painted green since at least the Great Patriotic War (Eastern Front - WWII). I believe it's some sort of anti-corrosive paint for the steel hubs. Regarding the scheme on this Su-34, it looks rather like the fighter two-grey scheme of the GPW, with a darker grey and a lighter grey over blue.

I've been trying to find out why Russian wheel hubs are painted green for years - to no avail.

I have been told that it is a traditional old artillery colour.

Or maybe the paint zavod never got the memo to stop production following the breakup of the former Soviet Union ......??

I asked an English-speaking crew member of the Tu-95MS that visited Fairford in 1993 - he was puzzled as to why I would want to know ??

His reply (in a heavy Russian accent).......... "Iz not significant!"
