JohnT
And a timely warning to those like me who have one in the stash. Note to self popped into the box as future reference Am watching and learning 1
FG2Si
I think the fit issue is partly due to the kit having evolved and gone through several updates over the years. The wing was originally more like an IM one with top and bottom halves. That was then replaced with the one piece wing that I have. The final version was a one piece centre with the outer folding sections separate. Likewise, the cowl was one piece and then Fisher introduced the one with the exposed engine.
FG2Si
With the spacers dry, I mixed up some Apoxie Sculpt and filled the gap between the wing and fuselage. I smoothed it out as best as I could. It will still need a finish coat of Mr Surfacer. Test fitting the cowl, the step between the fuselage and cowl is pretty much gone now. This side will need a bit more filler work.
trickyrich
I'm finally back to check out all these build properly....plus we have an extension and what do I find, you're pulling yours apart!!! Gosh that is a big difference between the cowling and fuselage!!! I had to go run off and check mine and my build photos as I don't remember this being an issue at all! Other than a sliver of plastic card at the bottom of the wing all the profiles were good, no giant steps that you seemed to have had. Interesting though the colour of the resin for the wing was different to the rest of the resin used. I looked at the 2nd one I have and a quick test fit and found it has the same issues as you are having, interestingly the resin colour used for the wings is the same colour as the rest of the model! I wonder if there was an issue with the early releases, which they corrected with a new wing? I know with mine the fuselage wing join was almost perfect with just a smear of filler required and as mentioned with the cowling just a thin bit at the bottom. I will have to remember what you've done for when I eventually get around to the 2nd one.
FG2Si
Rich, I think mine is more the exception than the rule because of the parts mix and match with regards to the wing and cowl.

Then I realized it was the insert behind the exhausts! My fuselage had a huge gaping hole on both sides and no mention of doing anything with it. But after looking at the pic, I realized that there should be something to close it up. Sure enough, I found a pair of panels that go in place. No mention of them in the instructions though. This gave me some impetus to get a bit more done. So I primed the lower wings and fuselage joint to see how it looked. I found a few flaws and fixed those. RCN Sea Fury colours are apparently quite the hornet's nest, especially in the two tone grey scheme. I ended up using a mix of Tamiya XF-19 and XF-83 in a 1:1 ratio that a friend used on his Sea Fury. Topside view. So some decent progress on the build.
galgos
Decent progress indeed Carl…..will you finish it in time (seems like a big ask but I know you’re a mighty quick worker). 1
FG2Si
Max, it may be possible. I'm closer with the CT-133 so will probably focus on that and work on the Sea Fury in between.
galgos
Makes sense Carl!
FG2Si
Well, I very much doubt to can finish this in time but I'm still working on it between drying sessions on the Mako Shark. I wasn't really happy with the way the engine insert turned out. I initially followed the painting suggestions in the instructions but it didn't look right so I started over.
FG2Si
From there I've glued the engine into the cowl. Due to the opening on the one side, the cowl was slightly warped so I shimmed it out. While that set, I did some detail painting in the MLG bay. I then gave the bay a wash in brown. I masked and painted the burnt metal panel near the exhausts. I forgot a pic after painting. But you can see them in the next pic where I've finally joined the cowl and fuselage together. As I've used epoxy, I need to let it set up a bit.
