M10 IIC Achilles - Tamiya 1/48

Hi All,

This will be the first 1/48th AFV I've done.  Normally I'd go for a 1/35 vehicle, but I'm fast running out of shelf space so I wanted to see how a 1/48 vehicle would look to save space.  As far the detail level goes it virtually the same as the Tamiya 1/35 Achilles.

Hi Dave and welcome to the GB. Great to have you here.  Great to see another 1/48 Tamiya kit being made. I enjoy these 1/48 kits from Tamiya a lot. The detail is usually pretty good for the size and they usually assemble well. I hope you enjoy your build.

Kind regards,

Stix

...and the hull and turret assembled.

It went together pretty well, just a bit of filler at the corners and a few holes that needed filling.

Hi All,

I've got it primed and painted.

The paintwork has come out a bit patchy as the airbrush kept on clogging and occasionally spraying grey.  After I'd got it to this state I stopped and spent about an hour cleaning the airbrush - it was filthy, inside it was coated in grey paint from top to bottom.  I thought I'd cleaned properly last time I used it, but obviously not. Anyway with a bit of retouching, varnishing and weathering it should be OK.

I've had mixed results with link and length tracks, but these went on easily and look good.

Looking god sir … Ive not had the best if luck with L&L tracks either. Im old school and will be using rubber bands fir my build. That being said my next German build I may go with a set of Friul’s as Ive always wanted to try them.

Slight thread drift, but have you seen the tracks by Trex Studios yet ?

Hi Dave. First in the Gallery!! Well done!!

And what a fantastic result!! It looks great with it's stowage and weathering! It looks bigger than 1/48 too, thanks to your skills! Very well done.

Thank you for building it in this GB.

Kind regards,

Stix
