  1. Lovely job on both Tony. Have you done one of the new airfix hurris as a Sea Hurri yet? It's on the cards for me soon as one of Dickie Corks. Whats the documentary you have there? It looks like very clear footage.
  2. Lovely photo, where was that taken?
  3. Lovely job of a relatively unsung aircraft! Hopefully kits such as this will be released in the future for the new 1/48 airfix defiant.
  4. Folks, on the new hurricane are parts nos. 41 & 42 the catapult spools for a sea hurri?
  5. Thanks very much for the comments! Indeed from research into the 95 MkI corsairs it seems around a third (maybe more) had their wingtips retrospectively clipped and there are some good photos out there showing it to good effect, however not JT132. This particualar aircraft had a series of photos taken, which are in the Fleet Air Arm museum but I have only a few photocopies which aren't very good quality. However one of the photos shows that this aircraft was previously coded 7K. Perhaps whilst on 1835 Sqn. Tony, thanks for the comments and the photo. I wasn't aware the pilot was in the footage I watched but that is horrendous and indeed incredibly disrespectful. There is an article on this forum here apparently by the person who discovered the aircraft: http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33324&start=30&mobile=off Looks like there are alot of hungry people trying to get rights to salvage what is a war grave and MOD property. Apparently the 2 aircraft are 1.3 miles apart. I know what you mean about the maple leaf, the other photo I have also slightly shows a diagonal line, perhaps indicating a different colour, hard to tell!
  6. Lovely paint job. The F-15 looks great in those colours
  7. Hi folks, another corsair from me. This time a MkI, JT132 '7J' of 1835 and 732 Sqn's out in Maine, New England, 1943/44. This particular corsair was low flying and clipped another-JT160 and both ended up going into Lake Sebago with both S/L VR Gill and S/L RL Knott. Both corsairs are still down there and there is some footage out there of JT160 which appears to show it well preserved in the lake. The kit was oob apart from some Eduard paint masks and ignition wire from fuse wire. It has an early style cowl which wraps around the top so I did some re-scribing there. The colours are similar to my previous Corsair with the exception of light gull gray (light gray) undersides, 'Indian red' inner rear fuselage and deep dull green cockpit interior. The decals were a mix of allsorts. The 7&J are made from Xtradecal white decals with red decal cut out to fit inside. This aircraft is unique in having a Canadian maple leaf on the cowl and also some artwork on the side in the form of a horse or a flying pig? I couldn't make it out well enough so left it out.
  8. I have the book 'Seafire' by D.Brown which is a good book. If your interested it has some information on those seafire codes: LR665, 894 Sqn Sep 1943, HMS Illustrious, To HMS Unicorn, written off Sep 1943. MA992: 807 Sqn, Jun 1944, Based at Fabrica, MkLIIC, combat with BF109s, June 29 1944,( S/L J.V Morris) Doesnt mention the others but Aicraft of the Fleet Air Arm by R Sturtivant can give some more info. Someone on here should have a copy.
  9. This is fantastic news, Airfix are really pulling forwards with some strong 1/48 kits, I just wish they'd do more.
  10. Second that if you really have too but otherwise it looks really good. Where did the torpedo come from?
  11. Wow, I love corsairs and that is a great undertaking!
  12. The intention is to fully restore it to flying condition and display it at airshows etc. Some way off yet but the project has been making good progress. Thanks for your interest!
  13. Even in more modern times does this still apply. Anyone familiar with the RAF's Tucanos will know they varied greatly in length and panels etc will only fit the aircraft it came from. Some differed up to six inches in length!
  14. Hell everyone, I thought I would draw attention to a project that I am loosely involved with but one of my friends is more closely involved. It is the restoration of a Hawker Typhoon MkI, serial RB396. The project is in an embryonic stage at the moment but some very exciting news is due to be revealed shortly. At the moment the project contains many individual parts, namely the fuselage, elevators, undercarriage and many small items plus a large amount of the aircraft drawings. The project will soon become a charity enabling donations but at the moment the greatest task is locating as many parts as possible, in particular a set of wings and cockpit. More information on the project can be found at: www.hawkertyphoon.com And the facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/hawkertyphoonRB396?ref=ts&fref=ts
  15. And Prince Philip was in fine spirits too!
  16. Thanks for the comments folks! Anyone at Flying Legends tomorrow?
  17. Hmm the book starts in Jan 1941 where he starts off by flying these two MkI's 8 Jan: GN-V 9 Jan: GN-W Then 8 Feb: GN-T V7313 is GN-F It was flown by a french chap 'Perrin' when he baled out over Canterbury. Apparently thr ajrcraft was dug up after the war.
  18. Have you got any of his books? I recently read Onward to Malta and he mentions which aircraft he flew in that with codes and serials though this is after the BoB. The previous book which covers the battle might shed light. Edited to add, sorry you wanted the latter part of 1940. I have the book in front of me and might be able to find a code.
  19. Hello everyone, I just finished Airfix's new spitfire in the kit markings of P/O Villiers Hanbury, 602 Sqn as this aircraft was based down at RAF Westhampnett (Goodwood) where I've done a fair bit of flying myself.
