  1. Hello, sorry to hear some of that, I (and everyone else) hope you are ok. There is a cracking community on here, it is a great place to chat about modelling. I look forwards to seeing your builds.
  2. Tonight I applied a lot of filler and whilst waiting for it to cure, I made a cab floor from balsa wood. I think there is supposed to be one but I seem to have got three firebox sides instead... It is sloped to clear the gears and wheels, I might allow the wheels through the floor and reduce the slope a little but we will see if I can do that without fouling the gears. 20210527_210439_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr I am also fighting the urge to start a new kit having signed up to the Plastic Posse Podcast's 1/48 spitfire build over on facebook, but I will try to stay strong and shift at least one half built model before that... One thing I utterly caved on was that I signed up to support the new Beacon Models 1/144 Battle of Britain set on Kickstarter... Because I apparently have absolutely no self control, I also ordered a Hasegawa Sea Harrier, Fujimi Royal Navy Phantom and Sweet Aviation 1/144 Hurricane. Folks, I really think I might have a problem...
  3. @Terry1954 that looks like it could be classed as an offensive weapon, what a beast! Thank you to everyone who suggested Fox Transfers for the number plates, I ordered them on Sunday night and they arrived by Tuesday! I test ran it and found that the cracked wheels are indeed wonky and are catching on the bearings. Fortunately Alan Gibson make what I need and at some point I will get around to ordering the new wheels to sort this out. In the mean time, I have been trying to sort the aesthetics of this, starting with the smokebox door handle. It turns out trying to drill 0.4mm holes is really flipping tricky. My drill can't take such a small bit so I ended up using an Exacto handle as an adaptor... 20210526_203620_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 20210526_210954_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  4. Hang on, your local Boyes has plastic kits? Mine only ever has Warhammer...
  5. Thank you for the heads up about Fox, I will give them a look. They are coming Jackson Evans, who have always been pretty solid for me in the past so I imagine they are struggling with covid or similar.
  6. @PeterB I don't actually have any etching chemicals, I am actually experimenting with using foil for bare metal aircraft and thinking of getting some for that so it might (oddly) be on order before I finish this. I also am starting to worry about getting my number plates before the end of the GB, I ordered it early April and still haven't heard anything... I put the tender together which all fit remarkably well, annoyingly during the process, I lost either the tool box or sand box (I don't know which is which) but I was able to find good enough photos to draw a replacement up and print it. 20210517_164039_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr With that, all of the major subassemblies are now together 20210517_210444_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr I managed to get the courage up to try to do the outside cranks, next the problem of electrickery... 20210520_211221_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  7. Other than the impossible to obtain Heritage Resin example are there any models of this? Whilst it is niche I would have thought that any modeller who was an air cadet in the last ~20 years would snap it up in any scale, I know I would!
  8. Mick that is a blooming lovely build, the paintwork in particular is gorgeous!
  9. Ryfield Models were gauging interest for loco kits on social media a few weeks ago. They suggested if they do anything they would be looking for something of a similar bulk to a 1/35 scale tank (so I suppose O scale or similar would make most sense). There is a good chance that nothing will come of it but fingers crossed.
  10. Took two hours of fettling but I finally got it all together and not too wonky: 20210509_194822_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  11. I still really suck at this and the fit is continues to be sketchy but more progress has happened: 20210508_210305_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  12. I love this (although I am supremely geeky) I would love it if more group builds presented all of this info!
  13. A lot of negative modelling occured tonight. I cleverly decided to tack solder the fixing nuts in place and melted two of the splashers and a chunk of footplate... A few hours later and it finally looks roughly the same as last night (but also slightly rougher).
  14. @Mjwomack incredibly they actually date from 1930s. They were rebuilds of two Victorian classes specifically to provide the Cambrian with light but quite fast locomotives. It took me a while to relearn soldering have done precisely none in the last year, I have also never made a white metal kit before so it took quite a while before I was happy I wasn't going to melt the whole shebang. However, once I had learned, the side frames went on really easily: 20210429_192125_Film2 (1) by OutcastJoel, on Flickr However, the little block on the footplate (rectangle bottom right of photo with a circular hole through the centre) is supposed to line up with the back of the footplate (which it did not)... For some reason the front half of the side frames were both perfect whilst the back halves were 2-3mm short. After agonising about how to disassembly the flipping thing I remembered I was using low temperature solder and dropped it in a jug of boiling water! Having done that the frames were snipped at a point I think I can hide the join and re attached. 20210430_200427_Film2 (1) by OutcastJoel, on Flickr Still not being really sure how to fix them I figured solder would make a reasonable filler, which I can hopefully clean up at a later point. 20210501_194313_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  15. I think I might need to change the motor for something a bit more modern, it is huge (and probably a bit weak) like the ones you mention @PeterB the kit will also need some number plates so I will need to do some digging and find out which 32xxs were based near Shropshire and then go shopping!
  16. Hello folks, I shall be building this: 20210421_210505_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr it is a white metal kit with milled brass chassis frames and comes with an ancient motor and gearbox I think it even includes brass rod for hand rails but I will find out as we go through... K's were a prolific model railway kit manufacturer back in the day and I think this kit is substantially older than I am. This should give a reasonable idea of what is in the box: 20210421_210807_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  17. I had an attack of motivation so... 20210403_212712_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr I painted as many of the markings as I could and I was really happy with how well the MAX on the leading edge came out! painted figures 2mm tall!!! The rest was pretty simple, the serial number is definitely wrong but I just want to get this off the bench so will live with it for now. 20210404_225754_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  18. @lifeline that is seriously impressive! My only criticism is that we need a bigger photo of that beautiful tiger striped Seaking!
  19. You have done a cracking job of the rest of it though. It is worth trying microsol and microset rather than decalfix. I have never managed to make decal fix actually work.
  20. You might be please to know they have a few 1/350 jobs slated for release in the next year or so.
  21. From what I remember the Rheinmetal bid included a 120mm smoothbore gun so it should be able to use NATO standard ammunition. Beyond that the press release suggested it was mostly control and sensor upgrades which are important for the blokes using them but not especially exciting for the rest of us. This is the only thing I could find: https://www.edrmagazine.eu/rbsl-unveils-comprehensive-challenger-2-modernisation
  22. Well I am calling this done for now. 20210307_222311_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 20210307_222255_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 20210307_222329_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  23. I am loving this build, great work. As a shermanaholic you might enjoy this, it's a radio play from RTE about a man building a model sherman (it is oddly compelling). https://www.rte.ie/drama/radio/plays/2015/0213/680068-small-plastic-wars-by-pat-mcgrath/
  24. I started rethinking the dio before realising I did actually mean the tent would be on the right of the tank but keep referring to it as being on the left because it is on the left hand side of the photo... Doh! @Bish & @Widow 65 thank you for that guys, really interesting bits of info I had never even thought of. Tent poles are now in the ground on the right of the vehicle 🤪 20210306_222953_Film2 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  25. @Keif those are seriously cool, I absolutely love the SR71. Also hello from across the border in Notts.
